Chemistry Stories blog post!!!

Hey guys welcome back to the nameless blog, or the blog with no name whatever you want to call it but today I’m going to take you through our most recent scimatics project. The name of the project is Chemistry stories which basically what it sounds like, stories about chemistry. I’m going to make this post short and sweet with all the info you need without it going on forever and just being boring. A quick recap of the project is we learned lots about chemistry through videos and workbooks, did a few Kahoots to help out understanding, and with that we chose two bondable elements and wrote a little story on how they bond. They can ether use covalent bonding which is where one element bonds onto another by attaching one of the others electrons onto their valence shell, making that one electron be placed on both of their shells therefore they are bonded. Ionic bonding is tho other option where one element sends an electron onto the other completing a valence shell for whomever needs it. I personally like the covalent bonding better so I focused on that concept and that is the way of bonding you’ll see in video.

My video was about the Sn(tin) element and the CI(Chlorine) element and how they bond with each other using covalent bonding. I will have the video linked or embedded on this post so you can’t watch it and I wont have to explain it in long ongoing text. Throughout this project I learned so much about the elements which I was looking forward to. I was looking forward to learning about the periodic table and going more in depth because this class is supposed to be scimatics both science and math, and from my experience and knowledge I’m better at the math part of the class no question about it. Just a few of the things I’m happy to have learned are the types of elements, what protons, neutrons, and electrons are, what they do, and why they are important, the bonding mechanisms, and a lot about certain elements.

Core competencies:

Communicating:

In my animation you can tell that my voice overs are clear and detailed. They are also in time with the rest of the story and explain the bonding processes. I think that I could have made my animation a little bit longer to give myself more time to explain the ionic bonding process. Other than that I think that my voice overs turned out great.

Processing and Analyzing:

My animation using correct Bohr models to show and explain the electron arrangement of ions and atoms. My animation shows how the atoms bond together using the covalent bonding process. I am super proud of how my animation turned out even though it was very last minute.

Questioning and Predicting:

I think this isn’t something I did the best on because of my time management skills. I lost my Apple Pencil for two weeks while this project was on and my mindset was “I can’t draw my Bohr models so I can’t do my work” and that led to me getting sidetracked with football stats and stuff. Definitely a thing I can fix in the future by finding a way to get the work done through struggles.

Overall my animation turned out better then expected and I am happy with the outcome. There was a little bit of revising and rushing throughout this project to get it done on time, but other then that I think I did well. This was a good last project for semester one and I will be back with more posts in semester two.
