Weekly Reflection 2

Ciao and welcome back to week 2 of weekly formative posts! This week will hopefully be a bit less chaotic than last week, but we can never be too sure.

This week, we did a lot of note taking. At the beginning of our last project, our teacher warned us to be afraid when a teacher tells you to take notes, so naturally, when our humanities teacher said we would be doing a series of 5 lectures and notes, I went pale. Well, not really. I did however, take a deep breath and contemplate my existence.

My favourite out of the series was my globalization notes. I really like how I formatted them. When revising, I feel like I was able to understand what I wrote and build my knowledge back up to where it was when taking them. I also really like how I incorporated other media to make the notes more engaging. I think I would use another bullet point next time, so that I can go into deeper explanation when appropriate, but otherwise, I’m happy with how they came out!

The other notes we took were ok, but not outstanding. I think if I took a little bit more time when doing them, I would be happier with the final product. The other four notes are below, and I’ve also included the Terry Fox notes from the week before, just to complete the note taking set.

We also completed a story spine for our current project. The driving question is, Who is the Greatest Canadian? The story spine was on the person we chose to answer that question. The person I went with was the first woman appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada, Justice Bertha Wilson. My story spine was ok, but I definitely left out some important details that I eventually had to add in.

The progression in Justice Wilson’s life allows for dispute regarding where her peak was. This was definitely something I should have decided before I started my story spine, because I ended up making list after list, trying to decide. Was it when she first got appointed to the Supreme Court? Was it one of her many landmark cases? Or could it be after all that, when she was appointed to the Royal Commission on First Nations issues? In the end, I ended up going with her most impactful cases, but it was a challenge getting there.

In conclusion, Justice Wilson is awesome, note taking is not, and I am indecisive. Kidding, note taking is a helpful skill, but one I definitely need to work on. I hope you enjoyed todays post, and make sure to check out next weeks post, when you’ll actually get to see some of my new podcast, unTraditional!
