Weekly Reflection 3

Hello friends, new readers, and people with multiple pairs of chinos. Welcome to the third edition of my weekly formative blog posts! I’m happy to be back, and I’m excited for this week’s post.

This week was mainly focused on the planning of our first podcast episode. We were given a numbers document to fill in as we moved throughout the project, with a different tab for each step of the assignment.

So far, my favourite tab has been the, “Rough Draft of My Script” tab. I enjoy writing and I saw this part of the assignment as an opportunity to work on my phrasing when I’m expressing my thoughts. I enjoyed working on the final script tab as well, but having a blank page where you have the option to go in any direction you choose, is both scary, and awesome.

When I first started out, I had some scripting troubles. I hated how it sounded. It was too robotic and the flow of it was stiff. I pushed myself through it because there’s no correcting a blank page. Once my page was no longer blank, that’s when the real adventure started. Cutting, pasting, and completely rewriting segments completely transformed my script. I probably have 30% of my original script remaining in my final draft of the rough draft. However, I am much happier with the flow and tone of my script after my ruthless editing.

As a few people know, I’ve been struggling with my mental health recently. I found myself slipping behind where I wanted to be recently, and it took me recognizing that, to find a way to fix it. I decided that Tuesday was going to be a solid work block after school. I needed to catch up and revise several assignments, but I also wanted to get ahead, so that I didn’t feel like this any time soon. I took 5 solid hours, working on getting all of my work to be the best I know it can be. It was tough, but I’m glad I did this. I think If I hadn’t been proactive, I would have found myself slipping further and further behind.

This weekend happens to be Halloween, and as per usual, my friend and I did the laziest costume possible, people that just woke up. Although, it wasn’t much of a costume. Here are some highlights from Friday, the day before Halloween.

I think this week taught me some really important lessons about being proactive, understanding that mental health is just as important as physical health, and leaving room for improvement on a rough draft. I will for sure be using these lessons in the following months and working hard to improve my knowledge of them.

Thanks for reading this week’s weekly post! I hope you enjoyed and I’ll see you next week!
