Quilting! Oh what fun. Those were my exact thoughts when Ms Willemse told us that we were making quilts that told the story of a hero, who created a civilization that we could also create. My group of Willa, Ethan, Isobel and myself started our epic journey with some brainstorming.

After we completed these brainstorming documents we thought we were set, all that was needed was to design and make our quilt, right? WRONG! My group and I had to endure the most painful critiquing process I have ever been a part of. The cause was the dreaded storyboard.

This was our first draft. It has very minimal detail, and was in short terrible. If you think that PLP is easy look at the difference between the image above and below.

We were sent back so many times for one spelling mistake, one grammatical error, or one hole in the story. For. Days. In. A. Row. But all jokes aside this criticism showed how much planning big projects like this need, and that lesson will stay with me for my whole life.

Now onto the actual drafting. We started by discussing if we wanted to be abstract or literal. iPad drawing is about as simple and neurosurgery, so abstract was our best option. For me creating a square was easy. I needed to show her transformation from human to Pologonian and her discovery of the islands.

As you can see my two drafts look the same. To actually see the big difference other than the loss of the ocean that could be painted better than a four year old (like I said neurosurgery) I added clearing clods to show the old life slipping away.
