How do our choices impact our future path? The answer lies in the murky depths of Loon Lake.
Recently, we went on a life-changing 5 day workshop trip to Loon Lake with Pinnacle Pursuits. The main goal of this spectacular expedition was to create a stronger, safer PLP 9 team.
With Pinnacle Pursuits, we went through a number of team building activities like rock climbing, shelter building, adventure racing, ropes courses, archery, and trust falls. These were meant to build a stronger sense of community while pushing us out of our comfort zone. My favourite activities were the rock climbing and archery, probably because I didn’t completely suck at them.
With Jono, the creator of Pinnacle Pursuits, we did workshops where we learned about leadership, self-awareness and personal impact. In these workshops there were lessons about who we are, emotional intelligence, language, the pandemic, and communication. One of the workshops that I thought was important was when we learned about our values. By recognizing what my values are, I can make sure that my choices reflect those values. This will help me create my future path by taking positive steps in the present.
Another lesson that I felt was important for me was about communication. Communicating with people is hard for me because I often don’t know how to respond on the spot. By making the choice to take the risk of communicating with people, I can increase my comfort level with talking to people in the future. This will help me develop more friendships.
On this trip I also realized that the opposite is true. If I make a choice to not take a risk and not do something that I want to do, it might negatively impact my future path. For example, I wanted to join the SEYSA club but I was too anxious to go to the club fair and find out about it. Now I regret not going to the club fair because taking care of the earth aligns with my values and I think I would’ve enjoyed being part of the club.
At Loon Lake, I felt that I got to know people better than at regular school, and I think that people were able to get to know me better as well. This is something that I would like to bring back and continue from Loon Lake so I can become more comfortable and take more risks with the PLP 9 team.
All in all, I felt that our experience in Loon Lake helped me to come out of my shell a little bit, pushed me out of my comfort zone and strengthened the relationship within the PLP 9 community.
Ok bye!
