And Who’ll Deny it’s What the Fighting’s all About

“Why, why do we suffer each race to believe

That no race has been grander”- Genesis, Time Table

Hello. Most recently in Humanities we learned about the cause and consequences of nationalism and how it was a contributing factor to WWI. I chose to focus on British nationalism and examine how it contributed to WWI.

To learn about nationalism, I came up with a series of questions:

-Who were the major players in spreading British nationalism?

-What were the consequences of British nationalism on Britain and the world?

-Where did British nationalism begin and spread?

-When did British nationalism first surface?

-Why was nationalism so popular in Britain?

-How did nationalism impact the colonies of Britain?

After we came up with the answers to our questions, we were asked to create a short YouTube video about British nationalism  meant to answer our questions and examine the causes and consequences of British nationalism. I decided to format my video as an interview with a British man from the time. I decided to ask him different questions and answer my questions more implicitly in the video.

Filming my video was very enjoyable. I was able to transfer my knowledge of green screen in the Rise of the Frankenstuffies to my video here. You can watch the final product below.

Overall, this project was very interesting. I never really thought about the underlying causes of WWI. On top of this, we learned how to research from a verity of sources and how to make sure those sources were credible. With rising nationalist sentiment in Europe, tensions between nations increased to a boiling point, thus setting the stage for World War I.

Ok, bye!
