Success Behaviours Self-Assessment
Mr./Ms. (teacher’s name), this is my mother/father Mike/Ang. Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.
Agency: Seeking Help/Communication With Teachers
This year, I’ve learned that asking for help and communication is a very important part of learning. Last year, I almost never asked for help with my work, but this year I’ve found myself asking teachers for advice more often. Still not that much, but more often than last year. This is something that I would like to improve on even more in the future.
Another area I would like to improve upon is communication with teachers. My main form of communication with my teachers is IMessage or Teams. I would like to talk to them in person more often, because oftentimes it is hard to describe the problem I have. One time I have succeeded at asking for help and communicating with teachers is during the Rocky Mountain High project. My video wouldn’t download from IMovie and I decided that I should go in to tutorial to get help directly from my teachers. It took a few days of running around trying to find the teacher with the answer, but eventually we were able to download the video. This experience was helpful not only because I got my video on to my device, but also because I discovered that teachers are actually happy to help people. What a shock! Anyway, I don’t think I could have easily explained my problem as well without showing them. Now that I know that face to face communication is the most efficient way of communicating, I hope to be able to do more of it without being as anxious.
Self Regulation
Speaking of being anxious, this year I have found that I am a lot less nervous about things. Last year when a lot of projects were coming to a close, I felt very overwhelmed. This year, however, I feel better equipped to handle stress about assignments as well as presenting my work. Believing that I can do my work in the available time is a huge part of making me feel calm. I’ve found that focusing on one assignment at a time is helpful. As well as this, I’ve learned new systems to destress, like playing the guitar or going for walks. This, as well as advocacy, has transferred into other classes.
Enthusiasm
For the most part, all the projects in PLP are so unique that I can’t help but be a little excited about them. However, one of them I was very excited about was Metaphor Machines. I had no idea that there were so many revolutions throughout history, and I decided that I would make a series of Craft documents about all the provided revolutions. Even if I wasn’t as excited about the project, I would have done this anyways, as I have made a craft folder for every Humanities project since Power Play in Grade 8. However, what set this project apart from those was that I went beyond the sources provided and learned about other revolutions. By the time the project was over, I had taken comprehensive notes on 23 revolutions. This really helped me to understand the revolution for my project, and I hope to do this for other projects because it was actually really enjoyable.
Overall, this was a successful year for me and I am excited for the next one.
