“Now my advice for those who die (taxman!)/Declare the pennies on your eyes (taxman!)/‘Cause I’m the taxman/Yeah, I’m the taxman”-The Beatles, 1966, Taxman
Recently in PLP, we played a simulation called Nation X, which is based on the French/Russian Revolutions. In this game there are 4 groups: A and B (The 3rd Estate), C (The Nobility), and D (The Clergy). Pay and jobs were distributed like this:
A: Write 100 words a day about daily life: $1/day
B: Write 50 words a day about your life: $2/day
C: Enforce the law: $5/day
D: Be royalty: $10-20/day
Most people were in groups A and B and didn’t earn very much. And because Nation X was bankrupt because of wars with Nation Y, the taxes were raised $1 on the 3rd Estate. After that, the price of food went up $1 and a epidemic swept through A and B. One member of the Clergy betrayed the King and went to make a new nation, which we will call Nation Z. Most members of the 3rd Estate joined Nation Z. After Nation Z gathered a sizeable army, they invaded Nation X. The King fled, and a member of Nation Z bribed him to hand over the crown. After that, he was executed. After the King was executed, Nation Z began major reforms, making everybody equal in pay and taxes. The end!
Ok, bye!
