Welcome back to my blog…

For the past few weeks, my class and I have been working on a project called Let’s Get Riel! We learned about the History of Canada, specifically Winnipeg. Our main focus was how the portrayal of Louis Riel has changed over time.

In order to dive deeper into this, we started by learning about the Métis and their story. We learned about the Red River Rebellion and some of the key players during that time.

Then, we started learning about some statues and monuments of Riel. These statues were very fascinating. They taught me a lot about how the portrayal of Louis Riel has changed over time. Here are some statues we looked at:

The first text we watched was from Heritage Minuets. It was a remake of Louis Riel’s last minute before getting executed. It was very short but also taught me a lot. It made me understand him and his personality and portrayal in more depth.

We then finally moved on to investigating some primary sources to use while making our multi paragraph response to the driving question; How has the portrayal of Louis Riel changed over time. These sources where very useful when we began writing. Before we did that though, we learned how to write a proper paragraph structure. I also expanded my vocabulary. Once we finished learning, I was finally ready to start writing my Multi Paragraph Response. I started with a topic sentence and then went from there.

Here is my final draft:

Overall, by learning about Louis Riel, I discovered that he was a prominent Métis leader and a key figure in Canadian history. He fought for the rights and recognition of the Métis people, advocating for their land and cultural rights. Riel played a significant role in the Red River Rebellion and the Northwest Resistance too. This taught me a lot about the history and significance of Canada, specifically Manitoba.
