For the past fey months, I have been working with four other team members to create a presentation for something called Destination Imagination. We call it Di for short. Di is a project based, kid-driven program that teaches kids to be innovative problem solvers. Using STEAM, teams of students collaborate, think outside the box and create unique solutions to one of five different challenges in preparation for a fun, competition. The Five challenges include; Technical, Science, Engineering, Fine Arts, and Improv. We got chosen to do Fine arts (In Motion)

The creating process:

To start with, we began by choosing a famous painting that we thought fitted nicely. We chose “the stary night” by Vincent Van Gogh. This is the Original:

Then, wecreated our story and making our script. While others where working on that, I was helping to brainstorm ideas for our team choice element, a static character, a dynamic character, the conflict, our reimagined art, and our Kinetic  art for our story. These where all very important mediatory elements to our story that we had to include. I also started re-creating the starry night using acrylic paint. Here is the end result:

While I worked on that, everyone else was working on the backdrop and props. We had very limited class time to work on it so we had to plan to meat after school on our free time to work on building props, our backdrop and rehearsing our script.

What went well/What could improve:

Our group did well staying organized and completing our backdrop and most of our props with time to spare before our presentation. We were quite organized and on task most of the time. A few days before the presentation day, one of our team members got sick. We had to immediately come up with a solution to make the presentation work. We had to tweak some things and we had to change some roles around but we did it just in time.At the beginning of our presentation we had a technical difficulty with the speaker which caused us to laugh. Next time if something goes wrong we should try not to appear as fazed.

When it comes to meeting up and practicing our script I could have worked on organizing the team to meet up instead of rely on my other group members. I could have also been more organized by checking my messages and Basecamp for texts to meet up and rehearse or build.

What did I learn:

From Destination Imagination became a lot more comfortable with speaking in front of people. I think this skill will help me a lot throughout my life.
