As a project for PLP, we were tasked to reflect on our worldview. The project started off just as a little in-class assignment and eventually worked up to be a full-on video explaining things that have affected our worldview.

The first activity that started the project was a pre-test that asked us about our personal worldview. At the time I did not really think about the project later on and I just answered the questions to the best of my ability. I mostly answered neutral as there are two sides of the story and many interpretations.

After completing the pre-test, the next thing we had to do was a MindNode on areas of our lives that affected our Worldview. We had to write 3 things about the following areas: technology, family, activities, gender, cultural traditions, friends and travel. Some of the topics came easier to me than others as they had more of an impact on my worldview. I shared real life experiences and how they affected my worldview. I stated some of the things I learnt such as equality. However, I thought the MindNode was not as detailed as I would have liked it to be so I made a second draft refining the information and providing more examples. I think the second MindNode was way better and it made it easier for the third part of the project.

The third part of the project was to make a script of our worldview using the Pixar story telling method for our Explain Everything (the final part of the project). I think I did a good job of giving examples and telling what I have learnt from areas of my life. Even though I explained my worldview very detailed I think I could have improved my script. I did not make my worldview script a narrative story but instead I just listed the things that changed my worldview.

Pixar Storyline

Once upon a time…

Every day…

But, one day…

Because of that…

Because of that…

Because of that…

Until, finally…

And, ever since then…

The final part of the project was making an Explain Everything video about our worldview. We did four drafts for our worldview stories in Explain Everything but I am going to talk about three of them. This is because we did not have the unlimited version of Explain Everything and we could not access all the necessary utilities. My first draft was not good just to sum it up. I had long paragraphs of text straight out of my script and my voice did not contribute to the story. I also did not have anything happening in my video, just my voice and text. The second draft I did was also not good as I just did a few minor changes and I added music. The music I used for draft two and three were from my brother’s  and my YouTube channel called NorthernCoast. I also made a post on this topic on the week 7 student blogging challenge.

However, I totally restarted my Explain Everything and decided to look at only the important things that I said in my “scripting my worldview”. I put together  a pretty good list of all the important things like the areas in my life that have affected my worldview, examples and how has it changed my worldview. I decided to draw WAY more this time and to have the drawings and visuals to be the main thing telling the story. I also used many different apps to make different kinds of content making the video more interesting This went very well and I am very happy with my final product despite how bad my voice sounds.

Overall, I think my Explain Everything shows my worldview way better than the first two drafts. I used way more animations as I included ten times the amount of animations in my third draft than draft one and two combined. I have learnt more about my own worldview and how to explain it to others using many techniques. Finally, I have learnt about how to use Explain Everything and about the importance of visuals.
