HELLO  fellow out of the box thinkers!

This time i think we were D.I.feated. If you haven’t read my post about regionals, STOP NOW and read it!

Destination Imagination (DI) is an international compatition where kids from K-12 are encouraged to think out of the box. We compete in our age range (K, elementary, middle school, high school, senior), to see who can complete their previously assigned challenge, and theatrically present it while getting the most points (according to the criteria provided beforehand).

Why do we compete in DI? -because we want to grow!

DI is a compatition where kids go and learn the most important skills in the modern world. Creativity and originality are two very valued trates as well as tenacity, and grit. DI is proven to teach kids the most important skills in the modern day world, such as creativity, originality, quick thinking, public speaking, and most importantly, problem solving.

D.I. Teaches kids that not everyone wins, and that’s a good thing to know! It’s not only that though, I’ve learned so much more!

I’ve always been different, so I feel at home in this environment, but don’t be fooled… it is a difficult, high stress compatition that deserves its own reality tv show… It’s got DRAMA!

Also, you must be very sure about the group you begin this bafflingly long journey. I’ve gotten to know my group better that I would have ever without DI, and that’s VERY IMPORTANT because they are my classmates. It’s been a roller coaster of up and downs with them, overall they’re a pretty great team! They are Ben, Gaby, Emerson, click to see their experience of provincials.

How did we do it? – using these five steps
What happened?

You can see for yourself if you wish.

Let’s just say that It didn’t go exactly as planned, We hadn’t practiced with setting up the projector as a part of our time, and it really ate up our seven minutes, but I cut that out of the video to spare you! Also, to add to our behind schedule performance, we messed up a bit on the prop transformation (elephant toothpaste) and spent too long lingering there.

In the end, we ran out of time.

Thinking back now, we could have done a lot better, and we had in rehearsals, and a heck of a lot better at Regionals! All I can do now is reflect, and accept it, we messed up and I’m going to remember that, and use the memory to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Hopefully next time I’ll get into improv.

I’m relatively suprised about what happened at Provincials, because Regionals went really smoothly, and we actually got third place. At reagionals there were a lot of other groups competing, but at provincials there were only five including ourselves, and we came in last… only behind them by two points though! Still it could have been worse, and it taught me that if something doesn’t go as planned, keep on going and don’t linger. (If you’re in a competition or test or performance of some kind).

     – I’m determined to use my struggles to strengthen me! And struggle I did, di taught me fabulous stress tolerance tricks, strengthened my personal to person skills, presentation skills, acting, and much much more.

I really do like what we did with our rules and restrictions, like the team choice elements we had… Costumes, and monster Makeup! (A little bit drag queen-esque).

The whole experience was amazing, walking down the grand halls of our lovely hosts, with the high, domed ceilings, and the huge mural in the gym. We performed  in the gym full of people, and made a small mess of it with my team, my friends. Watching other teams compete, mess up, and succeed all at the same time. Watching my friends and classmates  (the space cows) win third place, and the huge grins of the teams who worked so hard to be there.

The word HUMBLING is certainly not enough.

We may have FAILED, but we will prevail, and next time we will SAIL!

As always, be your own Inspiration!
