Intro

For this project we were given access to a short film video that we needed to replicate. The film depicted a guy going on a jog when suddenly someone started following him! Keep on reading if you want to know more!

Planning

There were many steps to completing this project. First we rewatched our reference film about a dozen times to get a good understanding of what was going on and the different shots we needed to know. Since a large part of this project was learning how film and captivate an audience, a story board was necessary to know each exact scene, and how the video would play out. However even though to story board was only around 25 clips, (much less than many official movies) its a SILENT film, so the story board was only working off of angle shots, not what people were saying. Anyways, this is what I made! (Itā€™s just a sketch to get a general idea, which is why itā€™s not perfect.)

Ā Story board:Ā

1st Draft Errors

Since everything were doing here is a group project it made things a bit easier. However, a big problem on the first draft was the scenery. Since my group chose a filming area too late, we got a bad location, making the scenery not match up with the original reference. Aside from this, the filming wasnā€™t as good as it good have been, and it was all very rushed since we were on a time limit. Itā€™s good to note that this was the first time we did this though, (with not much notice) and overall we didnā€™t do too bad!

Final Draft & Problem Solving

Let me just say that the second, and final draft turned out much much better! Not only did the filming line up very well with the original reference, but the scenery was great! This is not to say that it went perfect thoughā€¦Ā

Problem SolvingĀ

Group members:

My group consists of four people, but only two of us were present for the final draft. This meant my friend and I had to problem-solve on our own. In our ā€œRunā€ film, there are three different characters, not including the cameraman. To make it work, we took on all the roles ourselves. However, things got tricky when a scene required both of us to be in the same shotā€”there was no one to operate the camera! Luckily, since we had helped out another group earlier, they returned the favour by stepping in as our cameraman, saving the day!šŸ¤³

Audio:

The only significant challenge we encountered was the audio. I assumed we could use the sound from our reference video, so I didnā€™t put much effort into making our clips sound clean, thinking I could just overlay the other audio later. That assumption turned out to be wrongā€¦šŸ˜¬ Since I misinterpreted the criteria, we had to fix the audio. Fortunately, my teacher was understanding and gave us time to make adjustments. Instead of redoing everything, we created external audio, like running noises, to match the scenes.

Final product

Why would I tell you this if you canā€™t even see the video you might ask? Well you can! If your interested in seeing my video, click this link to my YouTube channel!

Answer to the driving question

The driving question for this project was, ā€œhow might we learn video skills by recreating a short film?

When we recreating the short film it taught us many things! For example, it gave us a good opportunity to improve our video skills by giving hands-on experience with every step of the filmmaking process. Ā From analyzing the original film to breaking down its shots, (like the storyboard) you learn about camera angles, and storytelling techniques. Depending on how Ā ā€œprofessionalā€ your film is, (if itā€™s for a school project like us, or your aiming to make money off of it) filming scenes helps you practice using equipment like cameras, tripods, and lighting. while editing teaches you how to piece everything together to match the original. Working in a group also builds teamwork and problem-solving skills, making the process both educational and collaborative.

ConclusionĀ

After all the challenges and fixes, Iā€™m really happy with how our short film turned out! From handling missing group members to fixing unexpected audio issues, it was a great learning experience. It wasnā€™t perfect, but we made it work and learned so much along the way. Thank you for listening, and stay tuned for more blog posts!

Intro:

Itā€™s been quite some time since Iā€™ve posted and a lot has happened! I am now in grade 9 and my class and I have just recently travled to Alberta! There were ups and downs throughout this trip and Iā€™m here to tell you all about it!Ā

For every field study we do (this is the second one Iā€™ve done, the first being our trip to Oregon) there is a driving question. This trips driving question was, ā€œhow can we become the best version of ourself?ā€ Letā€™s dive right in!

Driving question:šŸ’Æ

The driving question of this project was ā€œhow can we become the best version of ourself?ā€ Since these blog post are different for everyone, how I become the best version of myself is unique to me.Ā

Throughout the Alberta trip there were many long hikes where I wanted to quit, I was tired at times and just wasnā€™t up to it. However, I learned to preserveir through these hikes, sometimes with the help of my peers, and other times I was able to help others preservere as well.

Ā I learned becoming ā€œthe best version of myselfā€ doesnā€™t happen overnight, and still, even after this trip, im not the best version of myself. Because become the best version of yourself is lifelong process and you donā€™t always have to do it alone.

Banner in the Sky šŸ§—ā€ā™€ļø

This brings me to Banner in the Sky. Now, you may be wondering, what is Banner in the Sky? Banner in the Sky is a book, (a very old one I might add) by James Ramsey Ullman. This is a project we did leading up to the Alberta trip. Banner in the Sky is about Rudi Matt, a young boy in the Swiss Alps, as he dreams of climbing a peak no one dared to climb but his father, who lost his life in the process. Rudiā€™s courage and determination drives him to chase his dream and prove himself as a climber. Since this IS a blog post Iā€™m going to be completely honest. For me, this book was too slow paced which I dont do well with, so it wasnā€™t the most entertaining read to me (there were some pretty interesting parts though.) However,Ā  it definitely ending up relating to our Alberta trip! I remeber looking back on Rudiā€™s preserverence and strong mindset while climbing, and pushing myself to do the same. ā›°ļø

My book note taking!

Here are some photos from the hikes we did!: ( I apologize itā€™s not the clearest photos)

Interviews

Interviewing was a large part of the Alberta trip and something I can tell you I was not looking forward to!!!! Now, my dislike for this really had nothing to do with the project. Iā€™m the type of person that isnā€™t naturally comfortable talking to people I dont know, let alone interviewing them!šŸ˜¬ This field study pushed me to step outside my comfort zone, and learn how to become more comfortable talking to people I dont know. Our task throughout and after the trip was to combine the interviews we made into one big clip about the ā€œTen Essentials of Life.ā€ These Ten Essentials of Life questions were originally based off of the Ten Essentials of Hiking. For example, one of our interview questions was ā€œhave you ever been stuck in someone elseā€™s shadow?Ā  This was (loosely) based off sun protection (an essential when hiking.) These interviews were quite freindly and conversation-like, starting off exchanging names and asking if we could interview them for a school project. A big part of the interviewing helped me grow on my core competencies, for example, in the ā€œquestioning sectionā€ I gained a better understanding of asking questions and researching information! Once my final video was made, I loved how I could see all my hard work coming together! Iā€™ll put it down below if you are interested in watching what I made when it was all put together?

The Ten Essentials of Life Video:

Silent Video

Along with the viral video (which Iā€™ll talk about in a second) the silent video was my favourite to make! Siena, Cloe, and Maya were my group members and we did a pretty rad job if I do say so myself! The goal of this silent film was for it to be, 1. Black and white, and 2. Without any words! This video was filmed in the ghost town, at three valley gap and it turned out amazing! Unfortunately we made this after a VERYY long drive, so we were all pretty tired, however the comedy in our film kept us going! Throughout this video I learned how vital it is to exaggerated facial expressions when you don’t have any words to show your feelings!

The Silent Film:

Viral video

For the viral video or ā€œTikTok trendā€ our goal was to create a viral travel video of places we saw throughout our trip! Even though this was an individual video, you could choose if you wanted someone to be in it. I chose the love of my life, ElsašŸ˜

copy_825F4E75-873A-49DA-B82D-2EFE991976F9

Reflection throughout the trip/everyday activities

Throughout the trip we made reflections every day, about how we felt. It was a good way to reflect on our mood and learning throughout!Ā  To get ready for the longs days we needĀ  to get up early, to get ready obviously but also. To have breakfast. Every day a new group was on breakfast duty, and this said group needed to get up even earlier! I am NOT a morning person so this definitely tested my ability to adapt to new situations!šŸ’¤ I adapted to this by setting up MULTIPLE alarms! ( my favourite was the Brooklyn99 intro)

Conclusion

In conclusion, this field study was a great learning experience and I had lots of fun along the way, learning (or improving) many new skills, like interviewing strangers, or simply getting up early! I hope you enjoyed reading my journey in Alberta and stay tuned for more posts!šŸ«¶

POL Declaration

ā€œThank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.ā€

Transition:

ā€œThe first thing Iā€™m going to talk about is some strategies and habits I will work on for the remainder of the school year.ā€Ā

Strategies/habits I will work on for the rest of the school year Ā

Mindfulness and Self-Care(self regulation)šŸŽ§

Something Ivā€™e noticed throughout the school year is that Iā€™m not very good at is prioritizing my self care. When I get an assignment I try to get it done right away to get it off my plate, however I tend to overwork myself. As I work through the rest of the school year Im going to work on prioritizing my well-being by taking breaks when I need them, and engaging in activities that help me get into a healthy and comfortable mind set. Continuing to reflect on my overall health and well-being will help me maintain a balanced lifestyle and optimize my performance in school.Ā

Ā

Coming into tutorial more often

The second strategy Iā€™d like to to work on is coming into tutorial more often. Itā€™s a very helpful tool and Iā€™d like to utilize it. By getting a head start on tasks before the day gets busy, I hope to create a focused environment for productivity. Coming in earlier could help me manage my time better, establish a positive routine. I believe this approach aligns with my goals of maximizing my potential and making the most of my education. In addition to this Im going to try and go to bed earlier so I have an easier time waking up for tutorial.

Learning PlanšŸ’Ŗ

At the beginning of the year, we got together and made plans for how we wanted to learn and grow. These plans covered a wide range of areas like taking responsibility, staying engaged, behaving well, being honest, getting ready for tasks, managing our time and actions, communicating effectively, and working as a team. Alongside these plans, we also wrote down our thoughts on what we hoped to achieve through our learning experiences.

Statement of learning intent

My learning intent is to comprehend all the information I’m being taught and be proficient or developing in my PLP classes. To do this I can actively engage in class by taking notes and asking questions. Second, I can review my notes regularly to reinforce the material. Third, I can seek additional resources like talking too other PLP students to deepen my understanding. Lastly, I can practice what l’v learned through hands-on activities or real-life applications.

Science ReflectionšŸ”¬šŸ‘©ā€šŸ”¬

I quite enjoy science but there is one thing we learned in particular that I found very interesting. Using the microscopes has been particularly fascinating to me, revealing hidden worlds teeming with life. I loved being able to go outdoors with a container and pretty much pick up anything, seemingly lifeless, and examine it under a microscope. I also appreciate the regular breaks we take, which help me stay focused and refreshed. However, not every aspect of our coursework has been smooth sailing. The project where we created a science-based video game, for instance, proved to be quite challenging. Despite my best efforts, the website would become glitchy, which was frustrating at times. Nevertheless, I still valued the experience as it introduced me to new concepts and skills in game design and programming. It was a learning experience in itself, demonstrating the importance of perseverance and problem-solving in the face of setbacks. Beyond the occasional bumps, the collaborative learning environment has been an overall helpful learning experience, and at times I was able to help others with the video game knowledge I had learned. Overall, science class has enhanced my appreciation for the natural world. I look forward to continuing this journey of exploration, embracing both the successes and the challenges that lie ahead.

This is the link to my video game if you want to check it out:

Maker Reflection

For my maker refection Iā€™d like to talk about my favourite project we did. This project is called ā€œbecoming a PLP learner.ā€ Some things I really enjoyed about this project is that I was able to show my artistic side in assignment such as my me emoji. With projects like these I got better at having a good eye for what photos, shapes and colours look good together. However, something about this project that really stood out to me was how much I learned about myself. For example in Becoming a PLP learner presentation I realized how much of a nerd I can become when talking about animals, but in my defence, animals are very interesting. Overall, this project was both enjoyable and enlightening, leaving a lasting impact on my learning journey.

Humanities Refection:

This year has been quite a roller coaster! There were many ups and downs throughout this year. In particular, my humanities class stands out as a significant part of my school experience. It was a subject that not only broadened my understanding of various cultures, histories, and philosophies but also encouraged my critical thinking and creative expression. Similarly, when studying history, we didn’t focus solely on overarching narratives but also examined specific events, movements, and perspectives that played vital roles in shaping the course of history.Ā  were encouraged to express our thoughts and ideas in meaningful ways. This not only helped to deepen our understanding of the subject matter but also fostered a sense of ownership and engagement in our learning process.

Ā Iā€™ve now said quite a few good things about Humanities but that doesnā€™t mean it was all perfect! There were many tough and stressful days throughout the year, and at times, I thought Iā€™d never get through it! As you can see I am here and alive right now so clearly I did. I donā€™t want this to sound like an advertisement but the app ā€œthingsā€ quite literally saved my life.

Growth

This brings me into my growth Iā€™ve made this year. In September there weā€™re so many apps we were introduced to and so many different functions! However I made a lot of growth learning how to operate the apps such as Things which I mentioned earlier. Apart from Things another app I found worked really well with my learning style is Showbie. This is mainly because Showbie, like many of the PLP apps is very organized.Ā  Iā€™m the type of person that relies on writing down what I need to get done so I can have the satisfaction of checking it off. Despite the initial challenges, I’ve successfully learned how to operate essential tools like Things and Showbie. These apps have become fundamental to my workflow, providing organization and satisfaction as I tackle tasks. Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue leveraging these tools to further enhance my productivity and achieve my goals.

Conclusion

ā€œAs I reflect on my growth, I’m grateful for the support and feedback received. Moving forward, I’m excited to continue leveraging these experiences to enhance my learning and achieve my goals. Thank you for your time and contributions to my growth as a learner.ā€

Intro

To start this off, I would first like to say that I wonā€™t divulge certain aspects of new modifications or ideas my group will have in the provincial round at the start of April. We donā€™t want to give anything away to our competitors!

What Went Well

Below Iā€™ll list my top four favourite successes in our presentation.

The Comedy

Out of everything, the comedy was probably one of my favourite aspects of our overall performance. We would always have the audience laughing and engaged or interested in what would happen next. Iā€™ve posted the full video to my YouTube channel so Iā€™ll put the link to that below!

Ā Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O35sXmUaw7U

Teamwork, Communication and CollaborationĀ

My team worked well throughout the process of creation and completion. Everyone helped and did their part as well as listening to others ideas. At no point was anyone left unheard or their ideas pushed aside. At one point or another, we all gave a good idea and contributed to the final solutions. Ā  Ā

Ā Ā

PropsĀ

Probably the biggest and most impressive prop we worked the hardest on was the leaning Tower of Pisa. This was what our whole presentation was about so it did have to be pretty good. When the group made the 5 foot tower of awesomeness and radicalness, (that doesn’t sound grammatically correct, but just go with the flow) it also came back to the group work, as we all contributed and helped out with the tower. Thou was burnt by a ferocious glue gun in the process, but this did not deter me from creating a jaw dropping piece of art.Ā  Ā

Ā Ā

Being PreparedĀ

As the tournament started to come closer, we definitely picked up the pace, practising every day we could and even working on it in our own time, for example long weekends and Saturday and Sunday. Everything paid off though, because once the presentation day finally came, we had it 100% down. Seeing how stressed other groups were, made us realize how ready we actually ended up being. I feel it showed in our overall performance and the fact that we WON SECOND PLACE!Ā

What Iā€™d Like to Improve OnĀ

Now, there isnā€™t a whole lot I can say here, however, I can give you the gist of things. The things I would like to improve on are a redesign of our TV prop and making sure we have a total success rate of the flow of some parts in our presentation. If we put our minds together I’m sure we can work something out!

Ā

How I Contributed and What I Learned in The Process

While we were great as a group, we each had specific things we excelled at. For example, my two biggest contributions I made for the group were prop making since I was the most artistic, and creating the scripts. This isnā€™t to say that I did these 100% on my own but I was a leader in these categories. Although, the one thing that I contributed 99% to was my leadership skills. I was the one to create schedules, and to-do lists for each member as well as get the group back on track when needed. I never sought out to be the ā€œleaderā€ if you would call it that, but it just happened. Overall I feel the leadership role was, and usually is, a natural fit for me.

Ā

ConclusionĀ

In conclusion, I think that this tournament was a great overall success and I am excited to see how the assessors rate us in provincials. Stay tuned for an update! Ā

Drawings and Doodles!

By: Brooklyn

Introduction

For this project we focused on learning how to draw in Sketches Pro. We learned about all the features it had to offer, and the different tools we could use. In this blog post Iā€™ll be showing you my favourite drawings that I made and take you through how I did it. Letā€™s get started!

Learning The Basics

Before I made any actual drawings, IĀ  learned about the app ā€œSketches Proā€ and how to work it. In the picture below Iā€™m drawing a rough sketch of all the tools and brushes I could use.

Ā

Shapes

As a good starting point, the first drawing we made was just focusing on shading and drawing 2 and 3D shapes. That was the only criteria for this since is was more for us to learn. Keeping this in mind, I chose a shapes and colours of my choice.

Ā  Ā

The Emoji

This is one of the drawings Iā€™m particularly proud of. For this drawing the criteria was pretty simple. We needed to draw a emoji. This could be an image you made up or something that already exists. I used my knowledge from the shapes to create my final product. Personally, I made something up for my emoji but I was inspired by a meme and a facial expression Iā€™m able to do.Ā

The Robot

At this point we were progressing into bigger drawings. For this assignment I needed to make a robot out of shapes, but the idea could be as crazy as you wanted it to! This being said, mine is pretty out of the ordinary. When I was making this I didnā€™t have a set idea of what this was going to look like so I just went with the flow. Iā€™m going to be completely honest here, the robot is cool but it looksĀ  like it just experienced World War 2.

Ā  Business Cover

Over all the drawings and doodles Iā€™v done, this is by far my favourite.Ā  My job was to create a business cover for a store I made up. I definitely struggled trying to find ideas for a business, but it ended up working out great! My business is pretty much what it sounds like, a cafĆ© with ferrets! Donā€™t worry though, they donā€™t bite!

Ā

ConclusionĀ

I had a lot of fun with this project, and I hope you enjoyed reading all about it! As the project progressed I believe the improvement of my skills and techniques was evident. I look forward to doing more projects where I can use these skills again!

The Story Behind my Artwork!

By: Brooklyn

Art and Explanation

For my artwork the criteria was to find artwork which represented geography, time, society, values, beliefs, economy and knowledge during Medieval times and incorporate myself into it. I was alIowed to find artwork online or use the ones I had already found and explained in my Artwork Choice Chart that I had created in a previous assignment. I decided to use the art from the Artwork Choice Chart and placed the images into a PLP app called SuperimposeX. This was much more challenging than you would think because I needed to combine all these pieces of artwork together while still making my own personal image the primary focus. By layering, erasing, smudging and masking the photos I was able to blend my artworks together in a way that looked cohesive and made sense.

The Process I Went Through to Understand the Learning and Create the Product

As I worked through this project, I learned how to operate SuperImposeX, and all the functions it had to offer. In class we watched a tutorial on how to use all the basic functions of this app and I had the teacher and classmates to help me if there was something I didnā€™t understand. Throughout this project I learned more aboutĀ  medieval artwork and how it connects to my worldview.

Reflect on How I was ProficientĀ

I believe I demonstrated a number of qualities in my artwork that showed my proficiency. For example, in the ā€œprocessingā€ part of this project I made notes in class about the historical information being shared. This helped me deepen my understanding about Medieval times as the project progressed. In addition to this my in class learning and participation showed that I can successfully communicate and collaborate with my classmates when needed. Throughout the making of my artwork I have reflected and revised my initial artwork, deepening my understanding of what proficiency looks like. By making my artwork, I got the chance to get a better understanding of how worldview can be recognized in medieval art, as well as further reflecting on myself as a high school student.

Paragraph to Explain my Art

By knowing about the medieval times and how it connects today, I can learn a lot about how it relates to me and realize how fortunate I am to live in the society I do. Learning from the past is very important because it helps me understand where we come from and why things are the way they are today. By studying history, I can learn from the successes and mistakes of those who came before us. It gives me valuable insights into different cultures, societies, and events that have shaped our world. Three important aspects of the past that have positively changed in todayā€™s world are womenā€™s rights, understanding of geography, and beliefs.

Ā In the Medieval times, society acted very poorly to one another, especially women. For example women and girls were sold or married off at extremely young ages. They had no consent or control over this whatsoever.Ā  I am very lucky to live how I do now because of women’s rights specifically, and also human rights in general have gotten a lot better. I have opinions about my future that are recognized and heard. My future is determined by me, and me alone.Ā

Secondly, in the time we live in now our knowledge of geography has become increasingly better than in the Medieval times. For example, we know that sea monsters and things of that sort donā€™t exist. This was a key factor that stopped people in Medieval times from exploring the world as much as they could have. We now know about weather patterns and cause and effect for many events that can take place.

Finally, although many people now still have strong beliefs, such as in Christianity, our approach to beliefs is very different. I am allowed to be a part of any religion, or none at all, without punishment. I feel very safe knowing that I am allowed to express my opinions without having such severe consequences. Today’s world allows for more free thinking and acceptance.Ā

Throughout this assignment, I’ve learned a lot about the past and how it applies to me today. I know my life is much better than what it would have been if I lived in the Medieval times. ā€œThose who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.ā€ This quote is most likely written by writer and philosopher George Santayana. Our world would be much different now if no one had spoken up for what was right.

Becoming a PLP Learner, Reflective Blog Post

Reflective Blog Post

By: Brooklyn

Introduction

Recently my classmates and I completed a big project in PLP, Maker. Our task was to make a powerpoint in Keynote about our PLP journey so far. The driving question for this was, ā€œwho am I as a PLP learner?ā€ Letā€™s get started!

My Reflection

For my reflection I will be splitting it into five parts, my WordPack, I Am Photo, Highlighted Work and the parts that worked well and didnā€™t work well.

My WordPack

My WordPack and I am photo (which I will talk about later) I would say was an easier portion of this project. Using a PLP app we combined a list of words that best described our self, and the app put it into a shape of your

choice as well as a font and colour of your choice.

I Am Photo

For my I Am Photo I decided on something that I am, for example ā€œI am a hockey player.ā€ Instead of a hockey player though, I did it about my love for K-pop. In a quick summary I took a photo of me beside k-pop related merchandise and with my Apple Pencil, doodled someĀ  related images on it.

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  My Highlighted Work

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  (aka my Nike shoe)

For my highlighted work I learned many functions of Keynote and how it operated. Some of the tools I learned, I wasnā€™t even aware existed! For example I was given a template of a Nike shoe to colour. This piece of the project was meant to help us learn more about how Keynote works and to encourage us to play around with the functions it had to offer. I chose colours from the pink and burgundy spectrum for my Nike shoe because they looked good together which is funny as I donā€™t even like the colour pink. This process allowed me to discover how Keynote functions workedĀ  and expand my knowledge of the PLP apps.

The Parts that Worked Well/What Didnā€™t

The title explains it pretty well as to what I’m going to be talking about, so let’s get right into it!

What Worked Well (something I’m proud of)

First off I’ll talk about what worked well in my project. I would say there are a number of things in the keynote presentation that turned out well, but for the sake of your insanity Iā€™ll only talk about two.

What Worked Well, My Me Emoji

The first one I’m going to talk about is my Me-Emoji. As a class we created an emoji, also known as the ā€œMe-Emojiā€, to look like us. Then we used the Me-Emoji emote to make our character hold an iPad, therefore incorporating the aspect of PLP. The next step I took was importing images onto my characters iPad, as well as taking away the background so they looked like stickers. Lastly I animated the ā€œstickersā€ to add an aesthetic touch to myĀ  presentation.

What Worked Well, My Settings

For this portion of my project I talked about my three settings. Radical friend, Student, and Fish Amphibian and Reptile Obsessive. These three settings were really fun to make, especiallyĀ  because I had the freedom to add a lot ofĀ  humour to it. Ā  Ā

What Didnā€™t Work Well

I wouldnā€™t say there was a certain part of my project that was a total fail but as I was looking over my Keynote presentation something caught my eye. I’m well aware I just mentioned how much I liked my Me-Emoji, (which I still do) but the resolution was quite poor. This was because I screen recorded my Me-Emoji (since it had animation features) unfortunately due to this the overall product didnā€™t look quite as pretty as it could have. Itā€™s not the end of the world but itā€™s definitely something that could have been better.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I think I learned a lot In this project, and it was a lot of fun to make. In addition to this, I also believe reflecting is one of the most important part of a project, to notice what you could improve on and giving yourself credit for what you did well is a really good life skill to have. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed reading my reflection!

Stay Gold, World

BY: BROOKLYN

Hello world! Thanks for checking out my blog. These past few weeks have been pretty crazy. Almost just as crazy as going into high schoolĀ  as a grade 8! For this project we did everything from reading the Outsiders book to writing AND singing a song! Sounds pretty nerve wracking right? Well let me take you through how I did this whole project. lets get started!Ā

The Outsiders Book

At the very beginning of this project our assignment was to read the Outsiders book. Every week we completed a role sheet based on the section of the book we completed. Sometimes I had some trouble understanding what to do but after asking some questions everything became radically clear. Outsiders was a great book to read becuase it taught me a lot about others worldview, as well as my own. I believe this is why we read this book in the first place. Ā

This book consisted of 224 pages and was definitely not a bad read! It had a good format and writing style that made me want to keep on reading.

Things we Did Along the Way!

My Worldview MindNodeĀ

Iā€™v noticed that a lot of our assignments within this project have connected back to my worldview. My MindNode is just one example.Ā

Here I will show you what the success criteria was for this project, then what my MindNode looked like once Iā€™d finished it.Ā

What I did here is make something very similar to a mind map. I had many different sections, for example geography and the Internet, but everything connected back to MY worldview. I learned about my opinionsĀ  for subjects I had never even thought about! Iā€™m going to be saying this a lot, but I did this project to learn more about worldview, specifically my worldview. Ā

(Apart of Things we Did Along the Way)

Western Worldview Group Meme

At lot of the assignments in this project, for example this meme, I feel werenā€™t the biggest portion of the project but mainly just there to show my learning and understanding as we progressed in ā€œItā€™s the End of the World as we Know it.ā€ For this assignment I needed to make a meme about western worldview.

Song+Video
Creating Its the End of the World Song Lyrics

You may have listened to the song ā€œItā€™s the of the World as we Know itā€ by R.E.M. If you listen to my groups version of this you might notice some similarities! Incase youā€™re interested in checking out my groups video, click here.

Our task for making the song at first was an individual project. I needed to Change the lyrics of the original song, keeping the same beat and flow. Keep in mind I had never done this before, so this was a totally new experience that I needed to learn how to do along the way! I couldnā€™t just make it any old lyrics though! It need to be about MY worldview. Once I was satisfied with what I had come up with, my group members and IĀ  Ā  combined all our lyrics so the final song could be about ALL our worldviews!Ā

Making the Video

Now, making the video for this song wasnā€™t that hard but it did take a while. My group members and I had to do some trouble shooting when things wouldnā€™t work out how they needed to, in the end though everything came together. To match the lyrics of the song, we all needed to find photos of us that connected to it.

What I Learned

I learned so much while creating the song and video. First off, I learned how to work Garage Band, which I have never used before. We used Garage Band to sing and create our music video. More importantly though, I learned how to write, sing, create and post a song!

ConclusionĀ

In conclusion,I learned many new skills throughout this PLP project and many of them I can continue to use later on in my PLP journey. Even though there were some hard parts, I ended up using problem solving skills to work through them, coming up with results Iā€™m very proud of. At the very beginning of this project I had absolutely no idea what my worldview was, and to be honest, I didnā€™t really know what that meant! Now that we have reached the ending of this project I can confidently share my worldview with others as well as understand what worldview means.Ā

A Deep Dive into My Journey of Reflection!

Reflective Blog Post

By: Brooklyn

This is my Keynote YouTube video I made, you can check it out here!

Ā

My WordPack

My WordPack and I am photo (which I will talk about later) I would say was an easier portion of this project. Using a PLP app we combined a list of words that best described our self, and the app put it into a shape of yourĀ choice as well as a font and colour of your choice.

This photo show a part of who I am, bring us back to the driving question, ā€œWho Am I as a PLP Learner?ā€

This process allowed me to discover how Keynote functions workedĀ  and expand my knowledge of the PLP apps.Ā

Ā

The Parts that Worked Well/What Didnā€™tĀ

The title explains it pretty well as to what I’m going to be talking about, so let’s get right into it!

What Worked Well (something I’m proud of)

First off I’ll talk about what worked well in my project. I would say there are a number of things in the keynote presentation that turned out well, but for the sake of your insanity Iā€™ll only talk about two.

What Worked Well, My Me EmojiĀ

Ā The first one I’m going to talk about is my Me-Emoji. Lastly I animated the ā€œstickersā€ to add an interactive part to myĀ  presentation. I feel this project brings me back again, ā€œWho Am I as a PLP Learner?ā€ All of these stickers represent who I am, in addition to my Me-Emoji that looks like me.

What Worked Well, My Settings

For this portion of my project I talked about my three settings. Radical friend, Student, and Fish Amphibian and Reptile Obsessive. For those of you that donā€™t know, my ā€œsettingsā€ are parts of me you will most often encounter. For example who I am as a student or who I am as a friend. These three settings were really fun to make, especiallyĀ  because I had the freedom to add a lot ofĀ  humour to it. Without giving much thought to this, you can tell it incorporates PLP by adding illustrations, effects and my Me-Emoji.Ā

If I were to revise this I would definitely find a better way to make the resolution better.

ConclusionĀ

In conclusion, I think I learned a lot In this project, and it was a lot of fun to make. In addition to this, I also believe reflecting is one of the most important part of a project, to notice what you could improve on and giving yourself credit for what you did well is a really good life skill to have. Thanks so much for reading about my my post, and if you havenā€™t already Ā checked out my About Me page, Iā€™ll link it right here!

Seven Fascinating Facts About my Gecko

Hello to anyone reading this! This is my first post and I was given the opportunity to talk about anything I wanted to. Therefor, I decided to talk about my gecko! This year I have worked hard to buy myself a radical Crested Gecko, and today I will tell you seven fascinating facts about him.

My Halloween Crested Gecko!

First off, Tequila, which is my geckoā€™s name, cherishes watermelon flavoured food more than anything. I donā€™t have an explanation as to why this happens, Ā but the more you know?

Secondly, Tequila, like most reptiles, canā€™t blink. Instead he licks his eyes to keep them moist and the wipe away dirt.

The More You Know!

Moving on, although it may come as a surprise, fire ants are Crested Geckoā€™s number one predators. This is then followed by dogs, cats, snakes and other geckos. Another fascinating fact about Crested Geckoā€™s is that they were thought to be extinct but were rediscovered in 1994. If youā€™ve seen a video of a monkey, youā€™ll they have prehensile tails. This means their tails are capable of grasping things. Crested geckos can do this too! This helps them with climbing. Another interesting fact about Crested geckos is that they canā€™t regenerate their tails.Furthermore, if your ever encounter one in the wild, they most likely wonā€™t have one since they drop their tails to distract predators. Lastly, since these geckos are arboreal (lives in the trees) they have very sticky feet and double jointed toes to help with jumping from branch to branch.
