After completing Pre-Pol, our next project was Marketing Me. This project was going to serve as our exhibition project. Initially, I questioned whether or not this would be an engaging or enjoyable exhibition. In the past, most of our exhibitions came from Humanities or Maker, and they were often centred around external topics like World War II, revolutions, or how people identity’s are shaped. A running theme with These projects focused on developing our self’s, a great example of this would be my artifact creation and Pre-Pol which were both focused around improving myself. This project would follow a similar path built more on our career plans and skills.
Let’s Dig Deeper
At the start of the project, I needed to learn what it truly meant to market something. Concepts like Vision, Mission, and Values (VMV), which we had touched on in a previous project but were central to this one. But how do you market yourself? And what does that even mean? Well essentially in this case, marketing yourself involves showcasing skills or hobbies that one is passionate about and connecting them to a relevant industry. For the project’s final product, we were tasked with creating a booth or display showcasing our past work, enhanced with interactive elements. for me I focus on my photography and cinematography.
What’s First on the Table?
We began with a foundational tool, a resume. Although I had created resumes before, this time it felt completely different. Instead of crafting a traditional resume, we focused on designing something more like a personal infographic that represented who we are and our skills. During this as well we all started to developing our personal brand, which included creating a logo and designing business cards. during the process of this I really enjoyed creating my own brand. A lot of people say I have a minimal vibe so that is the style I went for.
It’s All About the Writing
While working on my resume, I had to reflect deeply on how I wanted others to perceive me. I had to consider, who am I, Who do I want to be, and What are my first solid plans for the future. These questions helped me shape my personal infographic, defined my brand, and help form the conversations I would have with people at the exhibition.
My Final Thoughts
I think this exhibition turned out to be an incredible experience. Not only did I gain valuable contacts, but I also developed essential career skills and gained a sense of what real-world opportunities might look like. This project has been a pivotal step in preparing for my future. As always, have a great day!
