🧁Poetry!🧁

In this past term we learned about POETRY! Over the course of the project we explored different types of poetry and how to write it. You can read my poems HERE

In this unit I learned more about my worldview and and I learned more about myself!

I found out about other peoples worldviews by listening to their poems

📚The outsiders project summary blog post📚

In today’s blog post I will be writing about my experience with the outsiders project. I will be telling you about how I gathered knowledge to make my tableau successful, my journey with movie posters, and how I discovered a deeper understanding of the outsiders novel

Before I get into this post I should explain to you what worldview is. Worldview are the lenses in which we view the world though, it is a person’s individual philosophy that shapes how they think. There are seven main aspects of worldview: geography, time, beliefs, society, values, economy and knowledge. We did some activities in class you get an understanding of what our personal worldview was, and one of the activities was this mind map.

Gathering knowledge

I learned about this book in a number of ways. Not only did I read the book and watch the movie but I participated in weekly book discussions with my group to help me deepen my understanding about the book. In the book chats we would come prepared with questions we had thought of while reading the book and discuss those questions with our groups.

Another way I gained knowledge was by doing weekly drama exercises in my classes to help me enhance my final tableau.  (A tableau is a  I learned about being at different height levels, how to make facial expressions that coney emotion even with a mask on, and how to exaggerate all of my poses to make sure it is easy to see what is happening.

Movie posters

We started off by creating an individual movie poster to showcase one worldview aspect and some relation to Ponyboy ( a character from the outsiders) My movie poster had me on the front reading a book. It was to show the aspect of knowledge. The connection to ponyboy was that I was reading a book and because Ponyboy was poor and couldn’t afford to travel the way here learned about the world was by reading. It is also funny how my individual poster started with me and a book, similar to my experience with this project, and overtime as i worked with more people it transformed in to something much more than that, a big colourful thing with lots of people.

Working With My Team

Now I have been writing a lot about how i have been taking in information but the other side of it is how I took all of the information I learned over the corse of this project and shared it with the help of my classmates to the people that came to watch our tableau. My team and I spent many hours at school planning out our positions in the tableu, our facial expressions, what supplies we needed to bring in, building props, putting up backdrops, etc. We wanted to make it a special experience for everyone who came  so we could share all of the things we learned with them.

A Deeper Understanding

In conclusion what the outsiders taught me about worldview is that the gap between the rich and the poor makes it very difficult for the poor to have good experiences and the lower class don’t have very many options. They could either try and fight against society and improve the way they are perceived or the could simply give up and become the way that everyone sees them. In The Outsiders for example everyone sees Ponyboy as a greaser and assumes that because he was born into the lower class that he is a bad person, but when in reality Ponyboy is a very intelligent kind hearted person who risked his life to save children he didn’t even know. I see these things all the time in literature where society is unfair to people because of their wealth, or race and it happens every day which is extremely unfair and makes me so incredibly grateful that I am able to have all of the things that I have today.

🎸Medium is the message: My journey in advertising🎸

The driving question for this project is “

The driving question for this project is “How does what does what we see, read, and hear influence the world around us. The way we learned was by being assigned a business and creating an ad for it. Above are all the advertisement drafts that I made.

……………………………..……………………………..……………………………..……………………………..…………

When we were learning about advertising in class we watched some videos and looked at advertisements and gave our feedback. We watched a video called “Welcome Home”  in class and then wrote an analysis about who we thought the target audience was for the product. We also talked to Mr. Hepburn who criticized our ads and gave us feedback and advice to make our ads better.

A bit of information about the business

The business my group was assigned was DCM (Deep Cove Music) which is a music store in Deep Cove, hence the name. I went to DCM one weekend to take photos for my advertisement. DCM is located beside the Raven in Deep Cove and offers music supplies as well as lessons.

The Big idea

For this project the big idea was to:

-Enhance our knowledge on how the media uses advertising to influence the decisions we make

-To help ourselves become better educated citizens who are able to recognize when advertising techniques are being used on ourselves.

-Understanding how what we see, hear, and read influences the way we view the world

……………………………..……………………………..……………………………..……………………………..…………
Evidence of my learning

One of the pieces of my evidence of my learning is the historical media analysis where I analyzed an ad from the past and demonstrated my understanding in a paragraph.

Another piece of my evidence is my final group ad for DCM. The group ad was based of my individual ad. It showed how I understood techniques for advertising and my ability to give and take constructive criticism. It also showed how I could revise and reflect on my ad.

Strengths and Stretches

I think that in this project I learned what some of my strength and stretches are:

Strengths: I can take constructive criticism, I can work collaboratively with my teammates, and I can use imagery to enhance my ad.

Stretches: I have difficulties making constructive criticism helpful and I find it hard to interact naturally with with adults.

……………………………..……………………………..……………………………..……………………………..…………
In conclusion the way that what I see, read, and hear influences the world around me is by for sometimes when you have an ad pop up on your computer everyday for gloves, and then one day you need to buy some gloves you remember the gloves from the ad and buy them. If an ad is eye catching you might look at it and maybe the ad was for a drink and when you saw the ad you started to want to have that drink. Advertisers use Ethos Pathos and Logos to enhance ads. A good advertisement tells a story and sticks in you mind.
