🎭Destination Imagination! The Indecisive Improve Troupe!🎭

Hi! So for the past little while I have been doing DI in my maker class. DI stands for Destination Imagination which is worldwide competition meant to inspire kids. This year I got put into festival frenzy which is the improv group.

What we had to do was create an improv skit based on a festival we were assigned. To prepare ourselves to do this skit we researched a wide variety of festivals, from baby elephants to rolling cheese down a hill. My group was Cameron, Ronan, Magnus, Hannah, and Kira! I was really happy because Kira is a really close friend of mine and I was so exited to work on the project with her! At first my group didn’t get along at all. We couldn’t even agree on simple things like what our group name would be. After a long class of bickering we finally managed to agree on a name, and so the Indecisive Improv troupe was born.

Even thought my group didn’t get along at first eventually we started to get along. For example, last week we did an instant challenge and we got along so well we managed to come in first! We have started to listen to each other and help each other out so we can function as a team. I have really come along way since I started PLP, because at the beginning of the year I couldn’t stand working with a team but recently I’ve been able to work with my team happily and smoothly!

🐶How I Trained My Doggy🐶

I trained my dog Loki Using Lots of different methods. The first method I used was motivation. Loki is a very food motivated dog and so It was very easy to get him to obey commands using a treat!

The second method I used was positive reinforcement ( associating doing a command with something good like a treat, a toy, high praise, rubs, a walk, etc. ) That was when for example I told him to sit he would know that he would get something good so he would sit.

The third method I used was routine. I would do things over and over until he got used to them.

By the time Loki had been with us for a week he already knew how to sit and lie down.

today Loki knows 14 commands

sit

stay

come

lie down

roll over

Sit nicely

shake a paw

high five

dance

bow

up

hug

shake

fetch

When Loki was a puppy we watched lots of puppy training videos and a creator we really liked was Zac George. We even bought a book of his! (Link to his Web) https://www.dogtrainingrevolution.com

Thank you for reading!

🐕Drawing Loki!🐕

So if you have been following my recent blog posts you will know that I have a dog named Loki and not to be dramatic but I would say that 70% of my life revolves around him. For today’s post I had the option of drawing him and so obviously I took it! Below I will have a photo of him (because he is my muse) and I will also put my drawing!

For the drawing I didn’t trace it but I had a reference photo next to it the whole time so I copied that. I made his nose lighter and his collar darker. I added some dark squiggles on his nose to look like fur textures because I thought I was artsy and jazzed up the photo A little bit!

I really wanted to draw him because he is a big influence on my life and I love him a lot!

🐩7 facts about Labradoodles (Loki’s breed)🐩

Fact One: Labradoodles are hypoallergenic

My dog Loki is hypoallergenic which means that people who are allergic to dogs wont be allergic to him because he doesn’t shed. Since labradoodles are a poodle mix breed Loki got curly poodle fur that doesn’t shed.

Fact Two: Labradoodles get along with other poodle mixes (or at least in my experience)

Through my experiences at dog parks and friendly puppy hellos while on a walk I have found that most poodle mixes get along quite well with other poodles better than most other dogs.

Fact Three: Labradoodles can come in all different colour variations. The most common colour of labradoodles I see is dark brown AKA chocolate. Loki is a cream coloured dog but he was the only white dog in his litter.

Fact Four: Most labradoodles have webbed paws.

Because labradoodles are a lab mix they sometimes get webby paws which is to help them swim better. I personally think that webbed paws are cool because they make Loki look like a frog

Fact Five: Labradoodles are NOT considered to be and official breed of dog

… This is the most upsetting fact ever. Being a labradoodle owner this makes me very upset. It also makes Loki upset because when I told him he started barking like crazy.

Fact Six: There are three main types of fur coat

There is the Fleece coat, the wiry coat and the wool coat. The fleece coat is soft and long. Most labradoodle puppies are born with the Fleece coat. The wiry coat is long and almost looks like hair used with a crimper. The wooly coat is a whole bunch of tight curls which is what Loki has.

Fact Seven: You should get a labradoodle

This is a shocking one but I think you should definitely get a cute soft wiggly labradoodle puppy!

🦮How I Got My Doggo!🦮

How I Got Loki

Last year my family decided it was the right time for our family to get ourselves a dog. We had been thinking about it for quite some time and when our family friends recommended a dog breeder who’s dogs fit our needs we decided to get a puppy. We named our dog “Loki” after the Norse god because he was mischievous and also he was quite “Low key”.

Bringing Loki Home

Loki’s Breeder lived a ferry-ride away so on a hot August day my family boated over to the island to pick him up. Loki at the time was very small and fluffy. It was very easy to tell him apart from his siblings because he was the only white dog in his whole litter. On the ferry home Loki was very quiet and mostly slept for the whole time

📷But wait there’s more… HERZOG📷

So the second half of creating constructing communication was the photograph part. It was inspired by Fred Herzog! I leaned lots of things on this side of the project

We went on a photo walk to the beach and on the way there I took this photo of a sign!

I learned about apps to enhance our photos like Pixelmator  and Snapseed and used them to make the photo better.

We did exercises like getting people to take photos of us or playing with silhouettes to learn the ins and outs of photography. We used lighting and effects to play with mood!

OVER THE COUSE OF THIS PROJECT I DISCOVERED THAT I CAN EXPRESS MYSELF USING IMAGES. I CAN USE THE TOOLS I LEARNED TO HELP MYSELF SHOW OTHER PEOPLE WHO I AM AND WHAT MY WORLDVIEW IS!

✏️The Power Of A Pencil Summary Post✏️

Hi lovely people of the internet, I see you have found my blog. Good news today’s post is about one of my favourite things… DRAWING! In this post I will be sharing about the maker project we just did.

EMILY CARR!

We started of this project by learning about Emily Carr, the person inspiring this project. She was an artist from Canada who’s artwork was inspired by the indigenous people. She got the most recognition with her landscape portraits. Learned about her art techniques so we would be able to use them in our art.

USING PRESSURE

The first class we did in this unit we played with using patterns and all of the different tools and brushes. Our assignment for that day was to write our names in bubble letters using fun patterns that reflected our personalities!

Inside of the C is a small drawing I did of my family because they are important to me and I thought they should be included. Inside of the A and the I, I did the ocean and some plants because I love nature. Inside of the T i drew my doggy Loki who I love a lot. Inside of the L I drew butterflies for the sole purpose of looking cute. Inside of the other I, I did ice cream because it is the best food in the entire world, and finally inside the N I did some pretty flowers because why not? After I added some black shadows at the bottom and some white shiny stuff at the top and VOILA it was ready to be turned in.

DOODLING

In our second class we started of by jus drawing a whole bunch of circles on our page. WE uses different colours to make them pop out and we practiced using pressure to make them look different

After that we used our circle knowledge to draw our emoji’s. Our emojis were supposed to reflect our mood that day and that day I was feeling happy so I drew a happy face emoji. Somewhere along the lines I got confused and made my emoji in a sun.

SKETCH NOTES!

We started this class by watching a Ted Talk about how doodling is good for learning, and i created this sketch note on doodling. If you find yourself looking at it and thinking “wow what a lovely bunch of random scribbles” that is completely okay, trust me you are not alone, because this was the very fist sketch note that I have ever created in my life, so of course it is a bit sloppy.

Then we looked at some of the basics of sketch noting.

I made this guide for sketch noting about some of the elements you could incorporate like boarders, fonts, symbols etc.

I also made a symbol library for sketch noting

SHADING AND SHAPES

For this day we practiced shading using this shading guide

We also identified the key shapes in a mug

LOGO!

This was the final day of this unit. We came into class and FaceTimed with Chloe Devine: A graphic designer from New York. We created a KWL chart on what we learned

Then we created our own logos!

This was by far my favourite thing we learned I had so much fun making up a business and a logo for it! I made a Sunscreen brand called solis and i was very proud of the logo that I made for it. I used Keynote and Sketches Pro to make this logo. Below are my planning sheet and my logo

In conclusion I had so much fun doing this project. I think maybe next time I should add more shading to the mug drawings I made. I really loved this project and I would gladly do something similar in the future. Byeeeeee <3

P.S

here are all the things I made that I didn’t feel I needed to showcase in this post but i just wanted to share
