the point of this project was to argue with an other group about whether a revolution was a success. My group was the Haitian revolution and the side that we had to argue is that it was successful, but i do also agree with this because after reading the sad state the enslaved people of Haiti were in and i fell bad for them, with that out of the way the next paragraph will be about the project.
So the first part of this project is all ready talked about in more detail, but the first thing that we did for this project was a simulation and in the this simulation is was a Middle Ages European style so kings, peasants, law officers/ army and finally store keepers/ owners. So the event that made this specialty was the fact that there was a food shortage so things got very hectic durning the last days of the simulation so there was murders over food and stuff and weapons were for sale and there was murder.
So once we had a little bit of perspective about how bad life would be back then if you were not at the top of the pile when it comes to social status and how much it sucked we had to research about our revolution and the living conditions and what pre-lying condition caused the people to revolt.
So the people in Haiti who revolted where the enslaved Africans who were kidnaped from their homes and forced to to harsh labour in the french Haitian colony. The mortalities rates in the Haitian colony were extremely high, as they were the highest out of any slave colony at the time, and it was a truly horrible place to be. The things that the enslaved people were forced do multiple different things but a big thing was manual labor including but not limited to: sugar, indigo, coffee, cacao and cotton. They were forced to toil in hot and horrible conditions and many died.
The slavers were a majority of the time white french people, mostly men, but sometimes women and occasionally they were enslaved by freed people of African and white decent.
So now onto what my group did for the final project. What we did for our court trial was create an affidavit and the other group did as well. We gathered evidence and did all of the mock legal proceedings and we then recorded our part of arguing our reasoning to the judge and the other group did the same. You can see the video by clicking the link to the right. IMG_2150 .You find my group members blog posts here. Brooke. Sydney. Dylan.
So what was this project about? This project was about revolution and about how times were not always fair especially to the lower classes of society and how they had a restricted amount of things that they could do from day to day. But this was way worse for the serfs because at one point there weren’t even peasants there were just serfs.
So this was a mini project as a precursor to the main part of this project but we haven’t done it yet so with that in mind nation X the mini project. So this was a simulation of what life would have been like a long time ago. There were 4 different classes. The peasants the shop, keepers, the law and the nobility. I was placed in the shopkeeper class, so not the best but definitely not unpleasant to be in. The roles for each of the classes were as follows: peasants, store keepers, the law, and the nobility (and there was a sub class of nobility in the king.
The activity’s for each role were: king: make laws and pretty tell anyone to do anything that you want, who is going to stop you, your the king. the law: you can arrest anyone that you want other than the nobility and and person form your group is the tax collector, they make sure the lower classes stay poor. The job of the storekeepers were to stock and man the store and set the prices as we saw fit, we were the ones who were manning the store. The peasants: their job was to be poor not really be able to buy anything and to all of the grunt work and just generally be really freaking poor.
I the general story/timeline of that happened through out the simulation was: first day everything was going smoothly there was plenty of food (candy you cold buy with in game money) and there was no real issues in the society. One day two there was less food in the shop but still enough that you could but some without it being really expensive. On day three there was only weapons and the monarchs sold them. On day four it was the revolution and all hell broke lose. And that was when things got a little bit crazy.
So the gist of what broke lose on day four was there were different factions. There were break away people who became members of nation y there were the different classes there were the monarchs and what i did as a member of group y was i killed some of the monarchs and just did some scheming i killed luca and that was really cool because i love the idea of regicide and the fact that i got to do this in this simulation was great.
So that was the general story of this project thank you for reading.
So what was this project about? This project was about wildlife management and human environment interaction in the form of how humans impact the environment in different ways, like interrupting nutrient cycles and and impacting the environments in different ways wether it be through micro plastics or wildlife management.
We had different assignments in this project but i am mainly going to talk about the important ones and not just the ones that teaches us what some of these things are and how we impact the environment. The things assignments that we got for this project were (again i am talking about the important ones) were wildlife psa posters and a poster about nutrient cycles. We also did a gif on micro plastic biomagnification
Thank you for reading this blog post was a bit short but i am still getting into making blog posts again. Here are my posters
Well it reached that time of year, much to my excitement and annoyance. For me the exhibition meant two things excitement and annoyance because this exhibition means that it is almost the end of the school year and i will get to go on summer break soon, but it also means that some of my class periods that might be used for work so that is always annoying for me because it means that i get less time to work on other things and i have to stay at school way later than any one in their sane mind who does not work at the school would want to stay at the school. It also meant a lot of perpetration and not stress but an expiration that everything has to be perfect and this is a part of the exhibition that i have never been to fond about.
We were put into different groups for the exhibition with the grade nines and the group that i was put in was called tech for learning. Th groups that we were put int were based on what we did/do well in at school and apparently i do well with techonology
Anyways the grade nine planned the presentations and the grade eights and nines build all of the decorations and set up the room for the exhibition. We also presented a project that we though we had used technology really well in and the project that i chose was chemistry coding, if you want to see anything about that project than you can go to my blog post about it on my blog.
The main thing that a lot of the grade nines worked on was making cookies and cool aide for the people coming to the exhibition. So that is what we did for the exhibition yada yada yada bye
So the last project that i did in scimatics for the year is this project is called comic cells. The point of this project was to learn about bacteria viruses infections diseases and the like. So way this project was formatted where we learned about cells the two different types and those are: eukaryotic And prokaryotic cells. So we learned about feels what they have what the different kind of cells were like and we watched the movie osmoses jones. After this we had to make a disease wanted poster. After this we had to chose something to do our comic on something, and the thing that i chose to do my comic on was the virus polio. Once we had done research on our topic we then made a story board and once we had done this we then made our comic in the app comic life three. That is the story of this project. You can view my project at the bottom.
Curricular competency number one: Questioning and predicting: Demonstrate a sustained curiosity about a scientific topic or problem of personal interest. i think that i did good here because i used my class time for learning here.
Curricular competency number two: Scientific communication: communicate ideas, findings, and solutions to problems using scientific language, representations, and digital technologies. I think that i did good here because i used scientific lingo
Curricular competency number three: Evaluating: Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of evidence. I didn’t do so well here because i have the scientific concepts but i did not do very well when it came to showing cell interactions.
So anyways that is what we did for this project thank you for reading i guess.
Do you want to know how i made this? Then keep reading and you will hear about how i made this and what i did in this school project.
The title of this school project was new beginnings, and the driving question of this project is: what did the establishment of New France mean for everyone involved. So this project was about the founding of New France, colonialisation and the fur trade and what it meant for First Nations people. What we had to do in this project was make a advertisement trying to get people to go to New France and help build a nation, but this kind of turned in to making a photo slider with one side being what it was advertised as to certain people and the other side was what it was like in New France. We were aloud to chose one of multiple groups of people to market it to. The group i chose were the hard and gritty, those who would help build the nation instead of for example Les Filles Du Roi (which translates to the kings girl for those of you who are fools and do not speak french).
The first activity that we did in this project was we a advertisement for our school to try to revitalize some of the things that we learning in the beginning of the year in our project: medium is the message. Some of the things that our teacher wanted us to remember were: how to use contrast, the rule of thirds how much text to put on the ad, where to get the find print and other things. I would put up some media of my ad, but that would reveal what school i go to and i am not going to put that out on the internet.
After this the next thing that we did was a photo walk outside as we wanted some outside photos. Once we had been outside and we had taken our photos we used them to create our first New France visual. We used keynote apps like keynote to edit our photos add contrast, change the colours and add symbols that kind of thing. This was helpful as it gave us a bit of an idea about what we would be doing for our final project. The symbols that we put on our second draft were important as they had to be symbols that represented key things about New France that would have been advertised in our ads.
The next important thing that we did was a peer critique for feed back that was supper helpful when it came to finishing our drafts so that we could put our images and make our photo slider. When we did out peer critiques we made sure to try to be as specific as possible so we could succeed in out projects. After the peer critique i made my photo slider that you saw at the top of this blog post.
And finally the part that you were all waiting for: how to make a photo slider like this. The first step is to go the website flourish (linked here) and make account. Step two is to find two photos that you want to slide together in the slider. The third step is in flourish you need to go the the photo slider part of the website. You then upload your two images and make the slider. Voila you’ve done it.
Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.
In plp we have to do a Tpol and this is my Tpol. The point of out Tpol is to show how we have grown as a learner and why we should should go up to the next grade level, so for me that would be grade nine. The driving question of what i am going to present is why do i feel that i am ready to advance to the next grade level?
I feel like i am ready to move up to the next grade level because i have learned a multitude of things but i think i am also ready to move up to the next grade level because i have failed and made mistakes many times and in the plp and in real life we have to learn from our mistakes and as one of the plp’s favourite quotes state, we learn not from experience but from reflecting on experience. And some of the ways i have failed are in drafts, i have failed to hand things in on time and i have failed to meet criteria but this is important because i learn from these failures and by reflecting on them i grow as a learner. And example of how i failed was in my laser laws project in scimatics. In this project my final project was flawed in that i needed to make a certain kind of triangle but my craftmanship was not good enough to meet the expectations.
I will also reflect on humanites and scimatics, what i have done well in these subjects and what i think i can improve at and to better
In my humanites class i think that i could do better when i comes to having an open mind, i think i can give better feedback when it comes to a peer critique as i always find that i can not give as much feedback when it comes to everyone else so i think that i need to improve when i comes to this and this also goes for scimatics i think that i also need to get better at accepting that you need more that on draft to do things, as in the fact that i always do not want to do more drafts and i am always hesitant to admit that i need more than one draft. I also think that i need to take some better notes when it comes to lectures. My goals for humanities next year are: improve at peer critiques, have a more open mind to projects and hand all assignments in on time.
My goals for scimatics are: put more effort into the workbooks as i am almost always not putting in my all when it comes to workbooks, again have a more open mind when it comes to projects, remember to ask for help when/if i think that i am falling behind make sure to hand in all of the workbooks on time because i often find that i will finish them but i forget to hand them in and i hand them in an hour or two late, and do better on my mind-nodes because i think that i am always never doing enough when to comes to my project start and end mind-node. And finaly i think that i need to use my time better in that i am not always efficient so for example in the chemistry coding project i could have coded better and used a forever loop and that again comes to not asking for help and just trying to figure it out myself.
Topics that i would like to touch on. I also feel like i have demonstrated growth and maturity as a learned because i have had to do a lot more group work then i did in elementary school and because of this i have had to be able to listen to the opinion of others and make compromises and not always to something the way/s that envision doing it. Something that i have seen in some of my classmates doing is that they always remember to get the other people in the group to contribute and voice their opinion even if they’re are quite and would not normally speak up. What does my learning say about me was a learner? It says that i can make other’s voices heard, i don’t like or think that i do well when it comes to work with others but i still do okay and ways and that i some times need to do things more efficiently.
An other reason why i think that i should move up to the next grade level is because i have struggled with projects and that has made me a little more mature as a learner and given me more expirince and taught me that you have to struggle and not everything comes easily. One such project hat i struggled with was my comic cells. In this project we reaserched about a disease, virus or bacteria. The virus that i chose to do was polio. There are a couple of reasons that i had trouble with this project. One of them was the fact that i sometimes had difficulty finding information about the virus and most places just talked about how not to catch the virus and what kind of vaccine worked against the virus but they did not always talk about the science behind this virus and they did not always tell you about how the virus spread through the body. An other thing that i had difficulty with in this project was the fact that i had to redo my comic halfway through because i did the speech bubbles first and then i did the art after but i found that the image boxes that i used were not the right sizes and i could not change the format of the images without changing the different type of panels. But to change the type of panels i would end up deleting the text that i had spend time doing so i had to redo all of the text that i had done so this took a long time i had to do the drawings that i had a lot of difficulty with because of my learning disability disgrafia so i had to suffer through all of the art and had a hard time doing this and the final thing that made this project really hard was the fact that i thought i had more time but halfway through the project i found out that some of our precious scimatics time way being taken by my humanites class to work on the stupid spring exibhtion but i went to tutorial for a couple of ways and i managed to get the project done on time that goodness.
My goals for grade nine are: improve upon my peer critique skills, ask for help when i need it not after when i was behind, make sure to have an open mind listen to feed back listen and be moreopen to having to make more drafts and admitting that my first draft is not perfect
So my latest project in my scimatics class was the ultimate design challenge where we had to design a 3D object using the Tinker CAD 3D design website (so the website is design so you can design a object and have it printed, although we did not get the objects that we designed printed). The object that i chose to build was a magic the gathering deckbox that has space for dice. Now it did to turn out too well as i am not a 3D designer but i gave it my best and it exceeded my expectations for how it would turn out(which were very low). The driving question for my project was how can i design a 3D object with maximum surface area of volume i picked volume.
The first curricular competency for this project was: All class time is used efficiently for learning without distractions. I think that i did g good job on this curricular competency because i tried my best to get my work done on time, went to tutorial and over all gave this project my all. It may just seem as if i did not use my class time well because i had difficulty figure it out the design software at first and because i was absent for a week.
The second curricular competency for this project was: A 3D object is designed using TinkerCad or other design software. The design is optimized for either maximum volume or maximum surface area. The design should include at least 10 basic 3D shapes (A model should also be built cooperatively for groups of 2 or 3) i think that i did a good job on this curricular competency because I designed a 3d object using Tinker-cad, and did my very best when it came to designing this object. I also made my design maximized for volume like in the criteria. The design that i made also included ten basic 3D shapes, as stated by the criteria. We were given he chances to working in pairs or alone and i chose not to work in a group, but if i had to i would have. The reason that i chose not to work in a group with other people is that i like working alone because it makes it so that i am responsible nsable for doing all of the work and if i do not meet expectations it is my fault. That is just me though.
The third competency it: The surface area and volume are measured, calculated, and compared for efficiency. These factors are explained in detail in a keynote presentation to the class. I did an okay job at this. I calculated, measured and compared for efficiency. I also presented these details in a keynote for the class. One thing that i did not do very well in the keynote was i did i did not show the units in most of my calculations, so i could have done that better. But other than that i think that i did an okay job here.
What is destination imagination? (Which i will now be referring to as DI) is a hands-on, project-based educational experience that encourages creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking skills. Each year seven new STEAM challenges are created by teams of content experts and educators to help students from K to Grade 12 learn HOW to think, not WHAT to think. Destination Imagination applies the creative process to help student teams create their own unique solutions to the requirements posed by the Challenges. So that is their own explanation of what destination imagination is, but my take on destination imagination is that it is one of those things that are created by rich people who mean to do good. My first experience with DI was when i was about 11/12 years old when my mom tried to get me and a one of day friend and one of his friend to do DI together, but i never saw the point of it. In my mind it was some dumb challenge. So then a couple of years later when i am in high school, i am in a programme called the plp and they tell us that we will be doing some programme called di and i payed no mind to it
Eventually it came time for me to do destination imagination imagination and they told us to pick a challenge out of improve, fine arts technical and scientific. I wanted to do the technical challenge e but they gave me the scientific challenge. In the scientific challenge we had to have a mysterious object, a type of microscopy technique and we had to have two team choice element s that we incorporated into the story. We then had to create a story make some backdrops, create costumes and have some team choice elements incorporated into the story an or backdrop.
The other thing that we did at di was an instant challenge. I am not aloud to talk about my instant challenge, but i can talk about what an instant challenge is. An instant challenge is something that you have to do on the day of a di tournament you are give an challenge by the appraisers. Most of the challenge are either improve based, building a solution for something out of limited materials, or created a prop for a story.
The final thing that we had to for DI was we had to take a team photo in a car.
Here is my horrible explanation on whaat DI is, underneath is some media of my DI experiences.
