Do you love videography, photography and editing? Or you want to learn more about it.
That was our first project for Maker. Using different angles, lighting, exposures. All of those things to make a great video or photo!
Silent Video:
To get that final product and create that silent video, my group members and I first created a script. We wrote down the ideas we got when trying to figure out what to do. We took those ideas and added them together to create a script.
To make the script more clear we also created a story spine board which shows exactly how we are going to film it at the Three Valley Gap Ghost Town.
This video is about a tourist visiting the town. Along the way he meets a local, and the local shows him all around. Is the local really just that friendly, or is the tourist? Will this be a regular day in the ghost town?
TikTok Styled Videos:
While on the trip I had to create a couple TikTok styled videos. It could be with friends, showing off the view, it just had to relate to our project.
This video I made is a recap of all the photos I have taken on this trip. While editing that video I had to make sure the timing was right. The sound I chose was to keep the photos in line and overall just make the video look clean. It was challenging at first when trying to put this video together, but I eventually got the hang of it.
I’m very proud of this video. All the photos I took and just the overall result!
Jumping Transition:
My friends Sunny, Meghan, Esther and I made a jumping transition. From all the places like Costco to Sulphur Mountain, we wanted to capture the pretty views and memories of this trip.
Sometimes it took a couple try’s to get the result, but we eventually got the hang of it. Sometimes we would forget to film it at certain destinations. We had to make sure the lighting was right and we were all in frame. Making sure we were in the same positions as last time too.
Spin Transition:
I created this TikTok video with Sunny, Esther, and Meghan. While waiting to leave for the trip at school early in the morning, we decided to start the transition there. We ended the transition on the top of Sulphur Mountain, after our long hour and a half hike. The views were incredible, and it was worth it, I guess.
Camera Transition:
A long drive to Columbia Icefield, I thought I might as well create a TikTok. I screen recorded and filmed through the camera app. I then flipped the camera around to see me sitting on the bus. The weather where we were at that moment when filming was just rainy. But then I transitioned to the Columbia Icefield on the glacier where it was like a snow storm. It was hard to see anything because of the snow, but I found it was still a really cool transition. When transitioning, I had to use maps, but I lost my place and had to improvise and zoom out on maps really fast to get that transition. I am proud of this one!
Driving In The Van To Alberta:
This one is my favourite. I don’t know if you would call it a TikTok video because it is five minutes, but on TikTok there is longer videos like this. I filmed this on my camera when driving in the van with my friends. My camera gave the video more of a cinematic look, which I love. I mostly made this video so I could look back on it with my friends and remember this trip. It’s all about funny moments of my friends and the beautiful views I saw driving through Kamloops. I loved editing this video. Finding what song to use I found hard because it had to go with the video. It took me around an hour and a half to edit the video to get the final product. I was debating on bringing my camera on the trip, but I’m so glad I did to create this video, along with capturing all of the pretty views.
At Home Video Challenge – What Inspires Me?:
What inspires me? This video is all about me, who I am, who I want to be and what I love in life. I talk about my passions and hobbies. Along with things I don’t enjoy but still have to do. This video shows how I see and pursue life. I talk about Long-boarding, photography, fun activities I do with my family like boating and off-roading up at my cabin. I talk about what I want to do when I’m older like travelling the world. My life is very active and adventurous, but sometimes it can be relaxing and chill like reading my book at the beach. I try to find hobbies that help balance each other out.
When creating this video I had to make sure my voice over was clear. I added sound to make it more interesting. If I could fix one thing I would try to find photos that I added and put into landscape. I have a mix of landscape and portrait photos, so if it was just one way it would look more clean. But a lot of my video is made up from photos, so it would be hard to find another way to fix that problem.
Investigative Video:
How has the geography of the West shaped who we are? My investigative video is about answering that question through interviews from the people who live in the West like Alberta and eastern B.C. Along with the tourists who come and visit, to see their side of the question. I asked four people simple questions like: where are you from, do you live close to your work, does that impact what you do for your job, what makes you happy for visiting here and getting to create amazing memories, why do you think this place os important to the people who live here along with the tourists?
When I filmed some of my interviews, some parts were hard to hear, so I had to cut them out. I decided to add captions too. I added to transitions, along with text talking about my thesis and thanking the people who let me interview them. Next time I could have voiced over my thesis and the ending thanking people, since a lot of the other parts of my video are voiced over.
For all these videos I had to make sure I had the right lighting, angle, and I was filming in landscape. The editing had to make sense for the type of video I was creating. I had to be flexible with when I could film some of my videos and when I couldn’t. Overall I really enjoyed this project to practice my editing, videography and photography skills. I love those things, so it was a great opportunity for me to learn more ways to improve those skills.
