The last Humanities project for semester one was about how Louis Riel has been portrayed. I had to create three paragraphs to represent and show how Riel has been portrayed over time. I also learned how to create a strong paragraph using the four key parts to make it compelling. Before starting the paragraphs I first learned how to use different words in different spots. Using a worksheet with a word in the middle I had to find: synonyms, antonyms, make a sentence using a synonym, and a visualization of the sentence with the synonym.

Here is some of the activities I did to improve my writing:

This is Louis Riel

The portrayal of of Louis Riel has changed over time from some people they saw him as a troublemaker, getting in the way of Canadas plans. Riel being apart of the Red River Rebellion also made people see hum as frightful. Now when looking back he stood up for the Métis rights, and risked his persona and life, to make things equal. Although many people could have seen as a honourable leader until he executed Thomas Scott. After Riel did that many people changed their perception of him because many thought that wasn’t the right thing to do overall.

To help get an understanding of Louis Riel I watched a couple of videos about Riel. Heritage Minute, War Stories, and my favourite Louis Riel For Dinner were great sources I got my information from.

Another activity I did with a group was looking at three different statutes of Riel and seeing how each artists portrayed him.

I learned about who Louis Riel was because he is an important figure in Canadian history. I learned how Riel stood and fought for the rights of the Métis. Riel was portrayed overtime from being a hero, to learning about the actions he took that caused his life. After learning about the structure of the paragraphs, I would say I have improved on my writing. Learning from the mistakes I made by revising has helped me improve a lot when looking back on my mistakes. In the future I know what I could differently next time. I also learned about another key figure in Canadian history that helped made Canada to this day. Many people have many different perspectives and I learned how to incorporate the different ways people view history and the figures in from the past.

Learning how to create a strong sentence structure will help me in the future for the rest of high school and university. It’s important to learn this, because having a strong structure can help me get a better understanding of the project and even help me remember more about the process. Learning about Louis Riel is important because he played an important role of shaping Canada to what it is today. When learning about Riel, I saw the struggles that Métis and First Peoples went through. Riel formed Manitoba and showed what he had done to make equal rights. Giving an understanding of this learning about Riel helped me understand the different perspectives. Writing neural was a great thing to learn for the future, seeing both sides and where people come from the decisions they make.
