Learning to take photos (Herzog)

Hello people!

Driving question: Is it important to use technology to further improve our ability to communicate and to think creatively?

In this blog post, I will be talking about how I learned different techniques to take photos.  We were split into 2 groups, Carr and Herzog.  I recently finished my Carr blog post and if you want to check it out, click here.  After finishing Carr (the first part), we moved on and now I am in Herzog, our new project!  I found that this course was pretty interesting and I learnt a lot from ranging from using the lines provided by the camera to using different filters.

The app we mainly used was the camera app provided by Apple (sometimes we used photo booth) .  It came with a bunch of features that helped improve our photo taking.   Some techniques were learned to use was birds eye, taking photos from really high up, worms eye, taking photos from a really short point of view, long shot, taking photos from really far away and close up, taking photos from really close up.  Click here if you want to learn it as well.  To help enhance the photos,  we used Snapseed and Pixelmator photo because it has many cool filters and tools.    Some tools that these powerful apps was the healing tool, it allowed you to remove things that you don’t want into the photo, to changing certain colours on photos.

The first skill we learnt was to create photos that personify a certain object.  I chose to use a soap dispenser because I thought it would be quite creative to use it.  I made it so that the mouth was the hole that the soap comes out from and drew in the eyes.  I think I did a pretty accomplished job in creating it.  Here it is below:

The second skill we learnt was to take a picture that tells a story.  We were assigned to recreate and old photo that was as accurate as possible.  I chose a photo of me reading a book while sitting on a sofa.  I chose this photo because I had a similar shirt to the one in it.  Personally, I think I did quite well recreating the photo.  Here it is:

After that, we learnt how to use different features and how to use Snapseed and Pixelmator.  When we finished, I was tasked to create a photo that conveys an emotion that I am given.  I received the word zany, it means to be peculiar or unique in your own way.  I decided to dress up in a really odd outfit and added some cool features that I learnt to use.  This is a photo of it:

Then next thing I had to do was we created collages that showed of who we are.  The first thing I did was to create my name out of random objects that I found around.  We also created a page on it so if you want to check it out, click HERE.  Some things that I put in that was piano, gaming and seals.  I also created a collage that I don’t like.  Some things I put in there was Fortnite and prawns.  Look down below to check out my 2 collages:

The last thing we learnt to do was to create a gif that conveys an emotion and tells a story.  We learnt how to do this on an app called Keynote that has many cool functions that allows me to create gif’s.  The word I chose was melancholy which means to be depressed or really sad.  How did I choose this word?  I went on a random adjective generator and was chosen this word.  I used a black and white filter to make it look more sad and added a cloud raining on me.  Below me is my gif.

In conclusion for this project, I think that I have an extending/ proficient understanding of this topic.  To answer the driving question, without technology, a lot of things would be restricted, like you wouldn’t be able to take photos.  We can also use creative media to convey emotion by using different colours and different perspectives.  If I created a photo that is black and white, then the photo is most likely conveying a sad emotion.  One thing I think I did well was the task called manufacturing mood.  I used all the skills we learnt and managed to show my emotion.  Overall, if I could do something better, I would make sure to check the assignment because some times I forgot to write reflection that explains our media.

How does this relates to the adult world and how will it help me?

Some jobs require these skills – such as photography and cinematography.  This also builds on our competencies that we have been learning.
