Hello and welcome to my TPOL blog. For those who don’t know, TPOL stands for Transitional Presentation of Learning. In PLP, we believe that reflection is the best way to learn. In this post I’m going to show evidence of my learning in the past year. This will show not only projects that I’m proud of, but also projects that helped me learn the most, and my honest reflection on them.
To set the mood of this post, I feel as though this school year has been the most challenging for me. With the challenges absolutely came experience of what it’s like to FAIL over, and over again. While this has been difficult for me, I think I’ve gained some valuable skills that will help me through the rest of my high school years. In this year, I’ve learned how to adjust my learning habits and daily routine to help me succeed academically. While this hasn’t been an overnight adjustment, I believe that I now have devised successful strategies for productivity that work for me.
To show my progress throughout the year, I’m going to use my Learning Plan to demonstrate my learning in each competency.
Personal and Social
7 Habits helped me develop my personal and social competency by helping me find how I fit in to society.
I think this project helped grow my personal and social learning by working with a group that I wouldn’t typically work with. I worked with this group to make a project that succeeded.
Communication
While DI isn’t a project that I’m particularly overjoyed to write about again, I have to say that it absolutely helped develop my communication. I was randomly assigned a group with some people who’s learning styles vastly differ from mine. This project helped me be able to take on leadership roles, delegate tasks, and clearly communicate with my peers. We all worked together to make a successful solution.
Loon Lake was the first PLP field study that Gr. 9 went on. I learned to not only communicate with my peers that I knew but also Gr. 8’s. I think Loon Lake helped my communication skills and ultimately brought me closer to my peers.
Thinking
- Time Is Money
Time Is Money is my most recent Scimatics project. I’m particularly proud of this one, not because the end result was something super extraordinary, but I felt I learned a ton. By nature, I’m more drawn to humanities and arts rather than science or math. This has made Scimatics a tougher subject for me because it’s simply not something I’m interested in. However in this project, I really tried to learn the material and get all the assignments in.
Meiosis Models was another scimatics project that I struggled in. I had a lot of revisions and had to think of different ways I could figure out a successful final product.
Working With Words was another difficult project for me. Something about me is that I hate poetry with a burning passion. Unfortunately, this project was all about poetry. I hate to change my thinking about poetry temporarily in order to get this project done.
Why do I think I should move on to Grade 10?
This whole post has been answering that question in kind of vague ways, but here is a more direct answer. I believe that through the course of this year, I have gained some valuable skills that will assist and help me through grade 10. I’ve learned concentration skills to help me get work done effectively, I think I’ve really developed my writing skills, I’ve learned how to be effective in group work, and more.
Next year, I hope to continue my growth as a learner, specifically in science and math. Like I mentioned previously, they are not subjects that really interest me. I hope I can grow to develop ways to make them more interesting to me so I can be more productive.
