Trend Videos

Hello and welcome back to my blog. Today’s post is a Maker post all about trends and personal productivity. I’m sure we’ve all fallen victim to a trend, whether that be clothing, food, decor, or other. This project was specifically about Tiktok trends. If you’re on TikTok, you’ve definitely witnessed the fast paced, constantly changing trends on the app. In this project, we chose 5 trends to make our own versions on.

Before we get into the post, let’s talk about the driving question of the project.

How Do I Make Effective Personal Design Choices?

I think I learned a lot about making effective personal design choices through this project. I was able to make decisions about how my personal productivity system was going to work and then show my personal design choices in my 5 trend videos.

To kick off our project we worked on our Personal productivity system. To start this project, we needed to learn how to utilize our productivity systems the best we can. This portion of the project essentially just taught us how to get stuff done. According to David Allen, there are 5 steps of getting things done.

  1. Capture – This step means to somehow capture everything that has your attention. This could be unfinished to-do lists, homework, sports, or anything else circling around your head. To capture means to write it all down and leave it there for now.
  1. Clarify – After capture, step 2 is processing everything that you captured. This means finding out what area of your life it belongs to and processing it
  1. Organize– Organizing means putting it where it belongs and the steps to get it done

4.   Reflect – Review frequently instead of just checking it once

5.   Engage – engage means to simply get the task done

These 5 steps helped us to organize and get tasks done. We then put systems into place to ensure that our personal productivity system keeps working. Using Things, we created a daily review repeating reminder.

We then made sure our email inboxes were at 0.

After that, we took some time to organize Things, creating projects with due dates and tasks.

We then learned about time blocking in our calendars.

After effectively organizing our digital and physical spaces, we made repeating weekly reminders to do a weekly plan and a weekly review, reflecting on what went well during the week and what didn’t.

Using our newfound productivity knowledge, we then got into the main part of the project. In this project, we had to make 5 trend video in a tiktok trend format. To start, we researched different trends we could make our videos follow. In a craft document, I put down my 5 video ideas.

Craft Document with planning

During some of the time of filming, I was going to be Outdoor School Counselling, so I planned two of my video to incorporate that. I had two videos where myself and others would be doing a dance, and a video with outfit rating. All these ideas were put into Craft, and were artistically storyboarded.

After making plans for the location, shots, dialogue, audio, and the other details, we made drafts of our videos to see how they would look. I chose to do my editing in the actual tiktok app to make it seem like a real tiktok video.

After drafts were made, we had to look to see what to revise. I quickly realized I wasn’t going to get a chance to film my group tiktoks with my peers who were going on the Florida field study so I had to change my dance tiktoks a little bit by changing who was going to be in them. (Shoutout Ariane!)

Another revision I had to make was completely scrapping my Day In The Life video as and ODS counsellor. I realized my days were to busy to be filming very much so I had to come up with a new idea. After getting back from ODS, I took inspiration from my peers who didn’t go on the Florida field study and our situation by making a video about being alone in a classroom.

Overall I think I definitely could have planned out my videos a little bit better so I didn’t have to change my ideas last minute. For example, I should have found time for my group videos before my group left for Florida. However I’m pretty pleased with the way my final videos turned out!

Bad Hair Day Dance

My first video was inspired by a dance trend. Tiktok, was originally a dancing app so I wanted to do two videos paying homage to the original trends that have evolved into a ton of dance trends that still dominate the For You Page. For this video, I originally planned to do it with Gwen and Ines, but the timing didn’t work out so I did it with another friend.

Outfit Rating Interview

There has been an uprising in the “interview” trend and it comes in many forms. I chose this version specifically because it’s a chain interview where the interviewees are interacting with each other through me and it carries the video well.

Postman Pat Dance

This dance trend was a bit less mainstream on tiktok, but I loved the dance and thought it was hilarious. I was originally going to do this dance with Ines, but my planning wasn’t very good so Ariane stepped up and helped me out. (She did great!)

Class going to Disney

This video didn’t follow a specific trend format, but I needed a video to take the place of a day in the life that I couldn’t film. I decided to make the most of my situation and make a funny video about it.

Outfits of the Week – Outdoor School Edition

Outfits Of The Week trends have been a constant in the fashion side of tiktok and I wanted to make my own version but have a twist being that I was in freezing Squamish temperatures.

This is the end of my trends blog post! I certainly got a better insight into the countless trends I experience every single day and managed to get my personal productivity a little bit better with my new systems. Thanks for reading my blog post!

Sincerely,

Me
