Hello and welcome to my blog post. We recently completed a scimatics project called comic cells. The main idea of this project was that we had to made a comic demonstrating how cells and diseases interact. This project was pretty fun for me because I really enjoy drawing and illustrating and this project allowed me to do so.
Curricular competencies:
One of the competencies we used in this project was Questioning and Predicting. I think I utilized this competency particularly well in Milestone 2 where we had to create a wanted poster for a virus or disease. I researched into the Black Death a lot and used questions to find out more information about this deadly disease.
Another competency we used was Scientific Communication. I think I used this well in Milestone 5 which was the final comic. I used diagrams and scientific vocabulary to communicate how photosynthesis works to the reader.
The last competency was Evaluating. This meant that we could demonstrate an appreciation and understanding of evidence. I think this competency was especially prevalent in Milestone 3 which was a Khan Academy quiz where we tested our knowledge about cells and cellular theory.
Evidence of my learning:
I learned a ton about photosynthesis for this project so I could demonstrate my understanding of it in the form of a comic. I already knew the basics of photosynthesis but I didn’t know how it worked on a cellular level. This was surprisingly pretty interesting to me and if you’d like to know more about how it works, here’s my comic:
This was my last project of grade 8 which was absolutely crazy for me. Time has really flown! Anyways, I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post!
Sincerely,
Me
