Product guide

Congratulations on your new friend, Claire Jaakkola 1.3, commonly referred to as Claire (or Sara.) some functions of Jaakkola iOS 1.3 are:

  • Ultimate hype man
  • Major theatre kid
  • Soccer player

Getting started

Before you start using Claire Jaakkola, there are some things you should know and prepare for. The first thing is that you have to be able to tolerate horrible singing. The second is that Claire will want to talk to about fandoms. If you love that kind of thing, this is the device for you.

Accessibility

During school hours, Claire can be accessed at Seycove Secondary. In the morning, she is in one of the PLP classrooms. In the afternoon, she can be found at the classroom of whatever elective she is in at the time. If Claire is not at school, she can be found in a variety of other places. She might be drawing at home or maybe or the soccer field. If you would like to email Claire, she can be reached at clairej@seycove.ca

Settings

Claire has four main settings. These settings are fangirl, soccer player, student, and amateur artist. These are the four most important setting because they are the ones that you’ll find Claire iOS 1.3 in most of the time.

Setting one: Fangirl

This is by far the most dangerous setting of the Jaakkola 1.3. This device may say or do things they don’t really mean if they are defending a fandom or a ship. It is best to steer clear of Claire when she is in this setting. Unfortunately, she is in this setting for a lot of the time. Also, this device will get mad at you if you are a bad movie watcher and she’s trying to enjoy her fandom. Fandoms are very important to this device and she’s lost count of how many she is a part of.

Setting two: soccer player⚽️

This setting of Claire is very focused and ready to work hard. If Claire is in this setting, she will get upset if you aren’t a team player and you don’t put in commitment to the team. This device can be found with her team at the soccer field 3 times a week.

Setting three: student

This setting of Claire is kind of boring, but also effective and easy to work with. However, if this device is bored in student mode, they might shut down temporarily. This could either look like the device is asleep or zoned out.

Setting four: amateur artist

This setting of Claire 1.3 is actually on a lot, however not many people know about this setting. Claire 1.3 loves drawing and used a lot of their quarantine to improve their art skills. Their main traditional medium is markers but they draw on their iPad as well. They are not very developed with their art skills but they can be found practicing at home.

Warnings ⚠️

This device may…

  • spontaneously break out into song and dance from an obscure broadway musical
  • bore you to death by talking about their latest fandom
  • overwhelm you with its no-sadness policy
  • break down without food or something to do

Troubleshooting

Problem Solution  Consequence
You can’t differentiate between Claire iOS 1.3 and Sara iOS 1.3 because they’re twins and they look similar Ask either for tips to tell them apart and they will provide you with useful knowledge  If you ignore the advice and continue to guess, this may lead to the Jaakkola iOS 1.3s disliking you
Jaakkola iOS 1.3 will not stop talking about fandoms when you need silence Ask in a serious tone of voice for them to stop talking and explain why they need to shut up They might resent you for about 5 minutes and then go back to normal
They have stopped responding to you and they are engrossed in a book or their drawing Bribe with food or friends  If there is no food or friends available, you can expect them to get mad at you and go back to their book or drawing

This is my User Manual. Our very first PLP project was to create a user guide to tell our peers and teachers a bit more about us. We had to write about ourselves as if we were a device. This manual included things like settings, warnings, troubleshooting and much more. The driving question for this project was How do I creatively communicate who I am?

Another part of this project was creating a custom Memoji laptop with stickers that express who we are. This was a really fun part of the project. Here is my Memoji laptop

To make these custom stickers we explored Keynote and learned a lot about the app. Some features we used were borders, instant alpha, and shadows. Each sticker l chose represents something about me and choosing them was a fun challenge.

For milestone 1, we got in groups and used sticky notes to create a list of   knows, need to knows, and next steps.

In milestone 2, we had to come up with a Memoji laptop customization plan. This milestone falls under the creative communicator competency. At the end of this milestone we handed in a plan of what our stickers would look like and where they would go on the laptop.

Milestone 3 involved coming up with an outline of our user manual by writing a bit about what is going to go in our user manual. This milestone was also part of the creative communicator competency.

In milestone 4, we started critiquing and revising. We did several rounds of peer critique for our Memoji stickers where we got to see everyone’s laptops and leave sticky notes with advice, questions, and things we liked.

For milestone 5, we did critique for the actual user manual and we had one-on-one peer critique where we used the 20 minute peer critique protocol.

The 20-Minute Peer Feedback System

I found these critique sessions were very helpful and that they improved both my Memoji stickers and my User Manual.

After critique and revision, we moved to the final milestone, present and reflect. We obviously couldn’t present to the entire class so had groups of three and presented to two classmates. Afterwards, we wrote down a short reflection which we submitted in Showbie.

In conclusion, I enjoyed this project and I think it was a fun way to express who we are.

Thanks for reading!
