Shredding on the Shore SBC#3

Hello again and welcome to my blog. Its day 3 of the student blogging challenge. So today I’m switching it up from my usual school related blog post and I’m going to be talking about one of my newest and favourite passions, mountain biking. I mentioned a little bit of mountain biking on my About Me Page but I thought that i would go a little more in depth with it.

Some info

I am super fortunate to live on the north shore, where the pioneers of mountain biking first started making trails in the 1990’s. The north shore was the birthplace of mountain biking because of it’s beautiful forests and damp climate, the perfect condition for mountain bike trails. The trails aren’t just limited to the north shore, the Pacific Northwest in general is one of the best riding locations in the world. Surrey, Squamish, Whistler(especially), Tacoma, Spokane, and much more are amazing destinations to go riding. The mountains here on the shore are not huge but they’re still above average. Here on the shore, we have 3 mountains for riding: Fromme,Cypress, andSeymour. I like all of these mountains but my favourite would probably be Seymour because the trails are kept in good condition and you don’t need to bike up the mountain. When you take a car up to the trail head (the start of a trail) its known as shuttling.

My Experience

My experience on the shore is great. We have one of the biggest mountain bike destinations on the planet and the community here is incredible. I started around summertime last year. I started out with a budget bring full suspension(a bike with a suspension fork in the front and a shock in the back). This was a big deal to me because a lot of beginners start on hardtails (a bike with only a fork on the front) even thought the bike was on a budget, It left a pretty sizeable dent on my bank account. Mountain biking is a great sport and a great way to get exercise, but its not cheap. A good advanced mountain bike can cost upwards of $4000 and $5000, making it an extremely expensive sport. Finding a good budget bike is a humbling experience to say the least. Its a pretty controversial topic between bikers on what a “budget bike is”. I’m not going to explain it to you but here’s a video explaining how to find a good beginner mountain bike:

My first bike wasn’t a really great bike by any means but it was a good starting point. As a mountain biker, its really easy to want and want and want and envy others bikes, but it’s builds character. I upgraded my bike as I got better and serviced it every month or so but I eventually sold it. Heres what it looked like before i sold it:I wasn’t too sad to see it go because my new bike was incredible. I bought it used because I don’t have a job and can’t afford a $5000 bike. bought we got it for a steal even though $2600 isn’t looked as a good deal in someone who doesn’t understand bikes.

I might be a little biased but its one of the nicest looking bikes I’ve seen. With this bike I was able to push my ability’s to their limits and explore trails that I would’ve never been able to do other wise. It had a ton of upgrades and expensive parts that I could talk about for ages but a lot of the  stuff I didn’t have IMG_0728(not actually Alexa but its still cool)

I could go on for days and days about mountain biking but I’m sure you probably wouldn’t read all of it so Ill cut it short. It’s probably one of my favourite sports ever. It’s exhilarating to watch. Super fun, Tests fear, lots of exercise, and a great way to meet new people!
