Revolutions!

Hello! This is my first post of the new year and my post about our winter exhibition! We have worked many weeks to put together this presentation for the family and friends of all the PLP students.

The Driving Question

This year the project for our winter exhibition was revolutions, we all had to study different revolutions for the exhibition. The driving question for this project was

“What Factors Precipitate ‘Revolution’ and How Have They Shaped the Modern World?”

Animal Farm

Like our last humanities project we had to read book. This book was called “Animal Farm” it’s a pretty famous book so you might have heard of it, it’s based on the Russian revolution and the animals symbolize important figures in the Russian Revolution. Animal Farm is a short book and it was kind of boring and hard to read but it was interesting and I learnt a lot from it.

Click here to read more about Animal Farm!

Animal Farm Infographic

After we read Animal Farm we were asked to make an infographic (infographic is something that is used to represent a piece of data) about Animal Farm and the stages of a revolution. There stages a revolution are Incubation Stage, Moderate Stage, Crisis Stage, and Recovery Stage. These stages represent how the violence and rebellion progressed and built up through the stages.

This is my Animal Farm infographic:

The Haitian Revolution

After animal farm we were introduced to the revolutions that had happened all over the world a long time and we were instructed to learn about different revolutions. So we got put into groups which turned out would also be our group for the winter exhibition. My group got the Haitian revolution to study and in my group I had

Milaina

Chloe

Maya

Madeline

Julia

Everyone in my group had to make a separate infographic about the Haitian revolution, we had a week to do it was a lot of reasoning because the Haitian revolution is quite confusing but also super interesting! I really enjoyed learning about it.

Here is a video to help you learn a little more about the Haitian Revolution:

The Haitian Revolution: In the late 18th century, the island of Saint-Domingue (modern-day Haiti) was home to over 500,000 enslaved people of African descent. Inspired by the revolutionary ideals of Boukman there was a call for a revolution that quickly engulfed the entire island. What started as a fight for freedom and equality soon escalated into a historic revolution that was a turning point in the history of Haiti. There were hierarchy present in Saint-Domingue, highlighting the imbalance between the enslaved population and their oppressors. The start of the rebellion was inspired by Boukman’s prayer. Inspired by Boukman the enslaved people set fire to the plantations in protest. A man named Toussaint Louverture who was very important in the Haitian Revolution because he played a big role in organizing and leading the rebellion against the colonial forces, as well as the economic downfall of Saint Domingue due to loss if plantation. The spread of information about the rebellion, led at the time by Toussaint,  it spread rapidly from person to person, furthering support for the revolution. People whispered about the revolution then fought more until finally all people of colour on saint Dominque had freedom and citizenship. Napoleon Bonaparte heard that all people of colour were free in saint Dominque, he wanted to reintroduce slavery so he could get more money to further his empire. Napoleon arrived with his army, who attempted to and restore colonial rule. A lot of important people died when they started fighting. In the end Toussaint Louverture was put in jail and later died. Eventually Napoleon and his army being unsuccessfully tried to restore colonial rule. They fled back to France because most of the troops died in battle. After Napoleon left the island of saint Domingue was named Haiti and it was finally a free country.

My infographic on the Haitian revolution:

We then had to make a group infographic and this is what it looked like:

Rube Goldberg Machine

To symbolize and show our work on the Haitian revolution we had to make a Rube Goldberg machine. We had to make at least 10 elements on the machine that we can use to show the parts of the Haitian revolution. It was super fun making the machine but our first attempt at it didn’t work so we had to take everything apart and restart while all the other groups were almost done. It worked in the end and I’m really proud of us for how it turned out. But I found out that I wouldn’t be able to go to the exhibition because of a family thing so I was sad that I wouldn’t see how well it worked at the exhibition.

As well as being called a Rube Goldberg machine it is also called a metaphor machine because it is showing an action while explaining something that has happened. Our metaphor machine was showing the stages on the Haitian revolution.

This is our final product!

Here is a video of our Rube Goldberg Machine in action!

I wasn’t at the exhibition but my group told me that it went really well and that we only had a couple fails but we just restarted and did it again so it was okay. Im really happy with the way it turned out and I’m proud of my group for making it.

Conclusion

In conclusion I had a really fun time with this project and I really enjoyed learning about the revolutions and it was interesting to read animal farm and learn about the Russian Revolution through a book about animals, and even though it took a while making the infographic was fun and I liked how people could see all my work on one page. Seeing our Rube Goldberg Machine work was very rewarding and I enjoyed making it. Thanks for reading about my exhibition! See you soon for my next post!😁

How can we reach our peak potential?

Hello! I haven’t written anything for a while and as my grade 8 school year added and I went into summer but now im back and in grade 9!

Alberta

We went Alberta at the start of the school year for our Grade 9 field study! It was a lot of fun and We did a lot of hiking!

These were some of the views from the top

It was really beautiful there but cold as you can see because there was snow on some of the hikes we did! We hiked almost everyday and they were long but worth it in the end! My favourite hike that we did was the hike from Lake Louise. It was a pretty long hike with the time of 8 and a half hours! It was very tiring as it was mainly up hill the whole way.

This is a photo of Lake Louise

I had an awesome time in Alberta! I had time to bond with some of the new PLP students this year and just have fun with my old friends as well!

The Driving Question

Like every project we’ve had there has been a driving question, and the driving question for this project was “How do we become the best version of ourselves?” We then went to Alberta where we had to make a 1o essentials video!

1o Essentials Video

The main part of this project was the 10 essentials video, basically for this we had to learn the 10 essentials of hiking which are

  1. Navigation
  2. Headlamp
  3. Sun protection
  4. Footwear
  5. tools
  6. Fire
  7. Shelter
  8. Extra food
  9. Extra water
  10. Extra clothes

We needed to have all these things in our backpacks as we were doing long hikes and it was essential for us to have these items, once we had learnt these we had to make them into 10 life advice questions. An example of that is for footwear we did “What steps in life did you take to get where you are today?” We then asked these questions to people in Alberta where they would then give us the answers and some life advice. We then took the videos and made it into a bigger video which was called our “10 Essentials Video.” It was fun hearing all of these different peoples story’s and There life advice to us.

Before we could just go into this and film we had to work on our film making skills so we made a practice interview and I interviewed Brooklyn! After our interview skills had gotten better we headed to Alberta to interview some of the people there! This type of video is called a VoxPop which basically means “Voice of the People”

The people in my group were

Carmyn

Evelyn

Silent Film

On our first night we stayed in a hotel called “The Three Valley Gap” and it was weird but also really cool!

Next to the hotel there was a ghost town and the ghost town was super cool! In the ghost town there were all types of buildings like an old dentist, barbershop, saloon, school and a bunch more!

Our first assignment for the trip was to make a silent film, this silent film had to be black and white, have a good story, be filmed in the ghost town but most importantly…NO TALKING! So in my group which consisted of Maggie, Cece, and Eloise we made a silent film. We had to think of the story and create a story board before we left for Alberta. We had to film this in the ghost town and I am pretty proud of the way our video turned out!

Our video!

Viral video

Another video we had to make was our “Viral Video” we had to find a trend and make a video using that trend about our trip to Alberta. The trend I used was the one where you basically just stamp on your phone camera and then when you lift your foot off your in a different place! It was really cool and this was definitely a fun video to make!

Banner In The Sky

Before we left for Alberta we had to read a book in humanities called “Banner In The Sky.” It was an okay book but it was very long and repetitive. Basically the book is about a boy named Rudi who wants to climb a mountain called the Citadel and no one has ever climbed to the top but his mother and uncle wont let him because it was the mountain his father died on because he tried to climb it. After we had finished the book and taken notes we had to make a character sketch on one of the characters and the character I got was “Captain John Winter” Winter is basically the main character (Rudi’s) mentor throughout the book.

Conclusion

In conclusion I felt like I really learnt a lot from this project especially when we got to hear all those amazing stories from the people of Alberta! I feel as if I did reach my peek potential by keeping up with the work, staying positive in all the hikes we did, making sure I could help, and being respectful. One thing that I could work on for the next trip our just the next project in school is making sure to go above and beyond the expected work and being prepared f0r somethings that might not go well. In our 10 essentials video we got 10 videos but then some of them didnt work and one got deleted and we couldn’t get it back so we didnt have enough videos for the 10 essentials video, so Maya’s group kindly donated one of their videos to us.  One thing that I feel like I really learnt that helped me discover how to be the best version of myself was when I asked a couple how to stay calm when you’re stressed or burnt out. The answer I got was doing something for ourselves like going away or just doing something for yourself that makes YOU happy. I really liked that because I definitely get stressed sometimes about work and school and just other things in general. So when I heard that it put me in a new perspective and I now know how to stay calm and just be happy when things get tough. Overall I had an awesome time on this trip and im really glad that I got to go on this trip with my class and just be in Alberta because it was a beautiful place to go and I definitely recommend it!

Thanks so much for reading my blog I hope you enjoyed it!😁

How does language inspire Adventure

The Driving Question

The driving question for this project was “How Does Language Inspire Adventure?” This was the project that we went to Oregon! I had an amazing time on the trip but I did feel a little homesick and first but I will talk more about that later.

Quarry Rock

At the start of the project we hiked up to Quarry Rock so we could take pictures of the view. It was a really nice hike but it was REALLY hot! When we got to the top we had to talk some of the tourists up there and ask them why they decided to come up to Quarry Rock today. The people I asked went up there because they heard about it from family and friends and the other person I asked said that they had lived in the cove for years and decided to bring her mum up there because it was a nice hot sunny day. Our other task was to take a picture of the view and when we got back home to make an advertisement about it! Doing this was really fun because I really liked designing an ad. One thing that I struggled with was accepting feedback from my peers and teachers because I really liked my ad and I didn’t want to change it.

This was my first ad but I was told to change it because the text wasn’t good and it was very engaging.

This was my second ad and this was the good one, I changed the text and didn’t put as many words on it.

Oregon Adventure Book

When we went to Oregon we were instructed to make an “Oregon Adventure Book.” In it we had to follow the tasks that we were instructed to do each day and I did a really good job making sure I got all the tasks done each day when my friends didn’t. In the book we had tasks like getting a video of you trying a new food at the “Golden Corral” buffet. We also had to make drawings of places we had been and many more things.

The Spring Exhibition

So after going to Oregon and learning all about advertisement and adventure we made ads based on the pictures that we took in Oregon. I really enjoyed making ads I think that I took getting the feedback pretty well because we had to make many drafts of our ads and I did except feedback on it and changed my ad when I was given feedback based on it. For the Spring exhibition my group which was Griffin, Marcus, Cece, Madeline, and Julia.

The 3 Stations

For the exhibition we had 3 stations. The Tillamook Cheese Factory, Yaquina Head Tide pools, and Fort Stevens. Me and Cece ran the Tillamook Cheese Factory, Madeline and Julia ran the Yaquina Head Tide pools, and Marcus and Griffin ran the Fort Stevens station. As part of our interactive element in our “cheese factory” we made a cow milking station. In this station we had a wooden frame that we hung a rubber glove filled with water on. We also made a diagram of how cheese is made which we made out of clay. Me and Cece wore aprons, masks and hair nets as our costumes because that is what the people working in the factory wore.

My Oregon Ad

I did many drafts on my Oregon ad until I had made the right one and I used multiple different photos for it. This is my first ad that I made but I was told that there was too much white space.

I really liked this photo and was kinda sad when I was told I couldn’t use it. My second ad I was told to not use the photo and change the text because we already had a photo of the light house.

Finally after a couple more try’s that I’m not gonna show because I actually made 3 more before I found the right one I made the perfect ad and I am very proud of it!

This is my Oregon and I hope you like it!

So How Does Language Inspire Adventure?

Language can inspire adventure in any ways, it can inspire you when you look up at s sign and see an advertisement for the outdoors and its just the way that it is written and what the sign is telling you. It’s the way the words connect to you. If you learn a language it can inspire you to go to that country to speak it because you have leant a new skill and it motivates you to go somewhere you may have never been before.

Conclusion

In conclusion I think that I did a good job in this project and I really enjoyed going to Oregon and presenting our ads at the spring exhibition! One thing that I can work on is not being so nervous when I’m presenting or showing my work to my classmates and peers. I hope that I can take what I have learnt this year and bring it into grade 9 so I can be even better for next year! I can’t believe this year is over! It went by so fast (and I’m not just saying that for the blog post!)

Thank you so much for reading my last post of the school year! See you next year!

What were the consequences of colonization?🦫🇨🇦

Driving Question

Like every other project we have done we had a driving question. The driving question for this project was “What Were/Are The Consequences Of Colonization?” We learnt all about what the indigenous peoples went through during colonization.

Craft

One of the first things we did was learn how to use a note taking app called craft. Craft is very useful and is very god when you want to keep things organized. I really like craft and I think that once I got used to it I was using it all the time, not just in humanities! I would definitely recommend this app!

New France

New France is what we now call Canada. Samuel de Champlain started New France when he came sailing over to Canada with his men. Champlain started to trade with the indigenous. New France was the first fortified country in North America, but they had conflict with the indigenous. Back in France they had started to run out of resources so New France was the perfect solution for them because it was rich with resources. One thing New France needed to be successful was woman because they needed to populate.

Keynote presentation

After a while we were introduced to the final part of the project, an 11-14 slide keynote presentation about the consequences of colonization. We were allowed to have partners for this project and I was put in a group with my friends.

Madeline

Emilia

I really work well with them and I think that we did a great job on out keynote presentation. As part of the presentation we had to think of 2-3 main focuses that we were going to base our keynote presentation. The two things we chose to focus on were: Indigenous resources and Architecture. We were really interested in these two subjects and I really enjoyed learning about them! For the keynote presentation we had to present it to the grade 11’s because they were learning about colonization and we were meant to teach them more about it. We decided to put a quiz in our keynote that has questions about our presentation, we used kahoot to do this. It was a fun little quiz!

Indigenous Resources

Indigenous resources consisted of fish, plants and animals, some of things they used to hunt were: Snares, bow and arrows, and spears. The indigenous people were nomadic meaning that they followed their prey, they moved around depending on where their prey migrated to during the seasons. The indigenous’s diet depended on where they lived. When colonization happened the indigenous were left with little resources because Champlain came and took it all. They slowly started to rely on the Europeans for food as they couldn’t get it themselves.

Indigenous Architecture

The indigenous peoples lived in little birch huts called wigwams but the haudenoshaunee lived in long houses but when they followed their prey they used teepees because they were easy to dissemble and reassemble. Long houses, plank houses, and pit houses were some of the permanent houses the haudenoshaunee lived in. As colonization happened they were slowly placed away from their traditional homes and lost their culture.

Individual Keynote

After we had presented our final keynote we were meant to make our own keynote on our own that answers the driving question. The presentation was only allowed to be two slides long and it was only allowed to have 3 words per slide. We were supposed to so this so we could show that individually we knew the answer to the driving question. I already had the answer to the driving question so this presentation wasn’t that hard for me.

Answer to the Driving Question

So what were the consequences of colonization?

The consequences of colonization resulted in indigenous peoples losing their traditional homes and culture as well as having their land taken away by Champlain. Indigenous land were stripped bare of its resources by the Europeans so the indigenous were left with nothing. The indigenous now don’t have as much land as they used to, in fact they don’t have anything close to it. They had their life ways stolen and many indigenous were killed in war with Champlain that they didn’t want to go into.

That is my answer to the driving question.

Conclusion

In conclusion I think that my group did a good job with our presentation. We really worked hard to make a good presentation and put time in making a kahoot. I feel like we put a lot of information in there and we all did a good job working together and being a good team. This was a good project and I am proud of what we made, I am happy that we learnt about this even know it is sad but now I know ways I can help the Indigenous get their culture and land back in the future.

The Age of Exploration!

The Driving Question

“How can we use storytelling to investigate what sparked global exploration and understand its impact?” Our latest humanities project was about the age of exploration. We learned about trade between countries as well as the fur trade between the Europeans and Indigenous.

The Age of Exploration

So what is the age of exploration? Let me explain…The age of exploration is a time where people from different nations discovered that they could trade with different countries around the world. A good thing about it is that people then discovered new technology like the Sextant, Cross staff, compass, astrolabe and a ship called the caravel. A consequence of that was that the Europeans created the fur trade where they would go to the indigenous lands and trade things like blankets, knives, and spices in exchange for beaver skins that they would use to make hats. This meant that the beaver population started to die off and there weren’t many beavers left in the wild. Luckily people started to set up beaver reserves and slowly the beaver populations started to grow again.

The Cause and Consequences of Exploration

we learned about things that were good about exploration and things that were bad and that didn’t work out like how even though they were getting gold and silver so they could sell it to other countries to make money, it started to drain the land of all those resources until there wasn’t much left. We had to make our boards on a website called padlet.

Story Mountain

After reading and learning about the age of exploration we had to make up a story based off of what we had learnt. We had to write about a cause and a consequence of exploration, that is why we made the padlet. We had to make a story mountain about our story’s and we had to separate it into sections like the “Climax and the Rising Action.” I wrote about the diseases that spread as a consequence and about how trading with other nations was the cause. I wrote about a girl named Lily who really wants to sail around the world and trade with other countries and nations, but everyone tells her she can’t because she’s a girl.

My Story

This story is kind of long so you don’t have to read it if you don’t want to but here it is:

There once was a girl named Lily she always wanted to go on voyages but girls weren’t allowed to everyone said that they had to stay home and cool and look after their husbands.

She would stare longingly at the waves looking at the glistening waves in the sunshine. Lily was very sad because she wasn’t allowed to trade so she spent day after day looking out at sea waiting for her adventure to start.

She had always wanted to travel, she knew it was in her blood because her father was a famous European explorer who went on many voyages a year. He always brought things back for Lily from his voyages but Lily knew it wasn’t the same. She would tell people all around town about her ideas for new technology and new ships, but no one would listen to her and when they did they would give her all the reasons why she couldn’t do it.

Lily loved to talk about traveling and she loved to talk to people about her fathers voyages and how she would always want to explore with him and go with him to trade with the indigenous peoples. She would always ask her father about his voyages when he wasn’t busy and Lily always said she could taste the salt water on her tongue. The idea of going on a ship and exploring the world gives Lily shivers in her spine and not in a bad way but in a good way.

One day Lily heard that her father was traveling to the indigenous land to trade with the indigenous peoples and so Lily snuck onto the ship and disguised as one of the curfew members. Lily knew that woman weren’t allowed to travel so she dressed up as a man so her father and his crew wouldn’t know. Lily had many ideas for new technology that could help explorers navigate their way around the ocean and she kept it all in her sketchbook. She had never shown any body her ideas and she had always wanted to show her father but she couldn’t, not yet, but she would one day.

One day Lily was working on the ship deck and she saw land! She shouted for her father to come and see and she didn’t realize how close she was to the side of the ship and she fell right in and her disguise came off and everyone realized that it was her. Her father was very mad but they had reached land and then her father was distracted by all the trading. Lily had a great time trading with all the indigenous and she traded them blankets for beaver skins.

After a couple days the indigenous started to come down with a strange disease and then many of them started to die. The indigenous started to blame the Europeans for spreading the disease through their blankets. Lily was very scared and she didn’t want to leave because she had had such a great time trading and she had made many new friends.

Although Lily had one of the most greatest time of her life she felt guilty that the indigenous had all started to die and she blamed it all on herself. Her father told her not to worry and then she realized the time was right and she showed him all her ideas for new technology that could help explorers navigate their way around the ocean. Her father told her it was a great idea and he told all of Europe and the rest of the world and they started to create all her ideas. Lily realized that her dream had finally come through and everyone had started to respect her and let her explore the world and Lily became one of the most famous European explorers in the world.

AR MAKR

AR MAKR is an app we used to film our story’s. In this app you can film things like a normal camera but you don’t have to place real life objects on the ground on front of the camera like on the normal filing apps. In this app you can take photos from your library and place them on the ground. It will look like you are placing a real life object on the ground from the screen, but from the outside it looks like your filming the ground so it can look kind of funny!😂

Pirate Packs!

Because we were studying the age of exploration we got to have pirate packs from Whitespot on the second last day of school before the break! It was lots of fun and we played Kahoots on Pirates and Vikings. We also had a competition on who could assemble their pirate pack the quickest! I had lots of fun and I won the grand prize in the end, a massive chocolate coin!

Conclusion

I had a lot of fun in this project and I learnt so much about the age of exploration that I know I am going to remember for the rest of my life. I liked working with AR MAKR even if it was a little frustrating at times I still had fun learning about it and working with it. I am sure that I will use this app for many years to come and I can’t wait to make even more story’s with it! This has been one of my most favourites projects yet! I really enjoyed doing it and I even enjoyed the homework!😁

Poetry’s Not Easy!

Our last project of the semester!

The topic for our last project of the semester was….Poems! To be honest I didn’t really wanna do a project on poems because I’m kinda bad at it.😅 I actually really enjoyed this project though as we started writing all our poems.

The Driving Question

Our driving question for this project was “How might I write Poetry that I Enjoy and shows who I am?” We wrote all types of poetry and throughout each one I think I displayed who I am in my poetry. I could just be myself when I was writing and just write about who I was, write about me. I enjoyed writing poetry about my life but sometimes it’s hard putting what you feel out into the world.

So what Poems DID you write?

we wrote all types of poems and learnt about all types of Poetry terms to put into out poems.

Here are the poems we wrote:

– Simile Poem

– Extended Metaphor Poem

– Sound Poem

– Haikus

– Found Poem (My least favourite)

– Experience Poem

– Imagery Poem

– Self-Portrait Poem

Our Ebooks

As our last final part of the project and the biggest things we had to do was make an Ebook. We had to make the Ebook on an app called Book Creator. We had to add all the poems we had made into it and design it. We had to publish our Poetry books onto their website so people can read it.

Here is my book:

Reflection:

After all the poems we had to write I think I got better at writing them!😁 I enjoyed writing all those poems and being able to express myself through them. I think that this was a fun project and I am proud of all the poems I wrote and I didn’t know there were so many types of poems and that’s not even all of them! The funniest one was the sound poem because we could just write a bunch of random words that described the sound of our worldview. I hope that I take all the poetry information into life because who knows? Maybe one day I’ll become a poet and people all around the world will get to read my poems!

We learned about the Medieval Times!

The Driving Question

For every project we have a driving question, a question that we can come back to through out the project. For this project our driving question is: “What can we learn from the past and why does it matter to us today?” So yes, we had to learn about the Medieval Times!

Book of the Lion

Like our last project we had to read a book again. This time the book was called “The Book of the Lion.” The book was okay but it wasn’t my favourite in the world I preferred “The Outsiders.” You can check out my blog post to that by clicking here! Like the Outsiders we had to again do role sheets. This time there were only 3 not 4. We had to fill out the role sheets every week and then meet with our discussion groups to present our work.

Art Work Choice Chart

As part of this project we had to make an art work choice chart. There were a bunch of categories that we had to fill out and each of them were different but we had to but a picture of something that best suits the box. There were 7 slides that we had to fill out and the first one that we did we had to put a picture of a medieval painted person. The choice chart was okay to do, once you got into it it got easier and then it was fine.

Sketch and Tell

We were given a template to draw what we thought it meant for societies to gain and lose power. We were each given a partner so we could present it to them when we had finished. After we had shown our drawing we had to write a paragraph explaining the drawing and how it connects to yourself. It was fun to draw our ideas on societies gaining and losing power, but I was not the biggest fan of writing the paragraph, but it was fine in the end!

Leader Tribute

We had to do a leader tribute on someone from the Medieval Times. I wasn’t there for it but the group I was put in when I was back at school were kind enough to give me a part even though I wasn’t there for it. The group I was in did a sketch to display to the class along with some facts and things about the leader.

Our Art Work

The main thing I would say is the art work. The art work was fun to make because we got to use the photos from our art work choice chart and put and make a piece of art from it. We had to put our faces on a medieval person and we did it on an app called “SuperimposeX” I liked using that app because it was fun to be able to make ourselves into medieval art. I am proud of my art because I think that I put a lot of effort into making it and I am proud of the art that I have made.

So yeah that is what my result was! It looks a little…funny, but I don’t mind it and it was the best one I had made.

As part of the art work we had to write a paragraph on it explaining the art that we have made.

Paragraph Explaining my Art!

Today we have been asked to write about our medieval art work that we have made. For this project our driving question is “What can we learn from the past and why does that matter to us today?” So we have been asked to make a piece of art starring us!

This medieval art work shows how our worldview has changed from the medieval times and how it displays how different their worldview is from ours. This is important to me because of the opportunities we now have today from what has happened back then and what they have done. I have put in a clock in my art work because of the way they told time back in the medieval period. They had to use a thing called a sundial that cast a shadow on a stone plate depending on where the sun was in the sky. This was important to me because if they hadn’t created the sun dial we wouldn’t have a clock and it makes me feel grateful for what they have done so we can live an easier life today. I have put a crown in my art because they used to have kings and queens just like we do now. It is important to me because we have kept that from the past and it means that our world is not so different from theirs. I wanted to put a group of people to display society in the medieval times. People in the medieval period were born into their groups. Some children were born to knights or merchants and some people were born to slaves or pheasants. They couldn’t just change who they were and they had to grow up like that. It is important to me because of what we now have because of what they have done for us. Woman didn’t really get education and it was sad that no one really got any education so we are lucky to have education based on what they have done for us since then. The book displays how grateful I am for the education we now have today because I know that people in the Middle Ages were not so fortunate. They didn’t get amazing education that we have today, education that helps shape our worldview. We are learning about them now because of what they have done. They are teaching us things about the medieval times now and what has happened back then. They are teaching us about what they did, their history and much more. All of these aspects are important to me because it has helped shape my worldview. Whatever was accomplished in the medieval period has helped shape my worldview. We now have digital clocks because of what they have accomplished back then. I am grateful for all that they have done to and have taught me over these last couple weeks. How much we have learned about them and how we have been able to learn about the Middle Ages.

Reflection

Overall in this project I learned A LOT about the medieval times and their worldview. I learned about their worldview by reading the “Book of the Lion” and all the other activities we did. This project was pretty fun! It was fun because we got to learn about the medieval times and make art, I really like to make art and doing it on an iPad was really fun because I have never done it before! I learned even more about others worldview and my worldview and have come to understand it even more then I did before. I have learned so much from the past and I learned about things that we still have today like clocks! Well back then they had sundials but they had the same concept except that they used the sun that casted shadow that shined on the right time of day. Even though things were slightly different we wouldn’t be as far as making clocks if they hadn’t thought of the sundial. I have to say that this was a fun project and I am glad that we got to do it because I enjoyed learning about the past and doing all the work to create our end result!

Thanks for reading my blog about our latest project on the medieval times! I hope you enjoyed it and I hope you read my next post!👍😁

How can a text help me understand myself as my worldview is changing?

What is the project?

This project was called “Its the end of the World as we know it” in this project we had to read a book called  “ The Outsiders.” This book was okay but I don’t think I would have  read it if I had the choice. This book gave me a lot of information about worldview. I compared my worldview to the Outsiders worldview. We had 4 weeks to read the whole book and every Thursday we met with our discussion groups to talk about the chapters we had read and the role sheets we had to do on the section of reading. The role sheets were sheets that we had to fill out based on what your role was that week. There were 4 sheets but we only did 3 of them over the 3 weeks we were reading the book. We each did a role sheet and we switched between them every week so we all did a different one each time. When the book was finished we did the 4th one but every one was meant to do the same one so then we could each present it to our groups. After we had finished reading the book we watched the movie and had to make Venn diagrams while we were doing so. We were introduced to the main part. We had to make write a song with with the background music of  “It’s the End of the World as we Know it” by REM. We had to write lyrics to the music about worldview and we had to use our notes that we had made to do it. We recorded our song and then had to make an iMovie. We had to get photos from when we were younger and now. We put all our photos together to make a slideshow and then we put it on our YouTube channels.

The Driving Question

The driving question for this project was “How can a text help me understand myself as my worldview is changing?” This project was all about worldview and how we can understand our worldview and others. The outsiders were to help us understand our worldview by comparing it to theirs. They lived in a rough place and fought each other, they killed each other in self defence. This all related back to the driving question and understanding our worldview. We had to make a MindNode on our worldview and put things in it about ourselves and what is part of our worldview.

YouTube Video

We had to set up a YouTube channel to put our “Becoming a PLP Learner” video in (which was our maker project.) We also had to put our song on it so if you would like to watch it then you can right here! I think that we did a good job with the video and the way we set up our slideshow.

What I did well

I think in this project I did well by staying focused and trying my hardest to make my work the best it can be. The lyrics were hard to write and it was a very fast song so it was pretty hard to sing, but I think that I did a good job. The lyrics were hard to write because you had to get them perfect and make sure that its in time with the music. Overall I think that me and my group members (Brooklyn and Kiera) did a pretty good job on this project and I am proud of what we have managed to do.

Reflection

I think that overall I did a good job on this project with my group members. I now understand what worldview is (kind of). I didn’t really like this project at first but as we got into it more and more I started to really enjoy it and have fun! I am happy with the work I put into this and am happy with what I have done. The book was ok and the movie was short but I learned a lot from it about understanding my worldview by understanding the Outsiders worldview. I am proud of the work I put into this and I think that me and my group members did a good job on this project. The singing part was hard because the song is so fast. Writing the lyrics were even harder because you had to make sure it that is exactly in time with the music so when we sing it it is exactly in time with the music.
