Running A RemakešŸƒā€āž”ļøšŸƒā€āž”ļø

Running a RemakešŸƒā€āž”ļø

Hi and welcome back to my blog! This post will be about the world of filmmaking. Our maker project called ā€œRunning a Remakeā€ was meant for us to pay attention to detail and make an EXACT copy of a short film called ā€œRUN!ā€ (Iā€™ll leave a link). Attention to detail was extremely important for this project because in order to make a copy, we had to film the exact angles, timing, sound, shots, and overall, story. We learnt many video making skills by learning how to create a story by using filmmaking. Sound affects were the hardest part because we had to create original audio.

Most people think that copying a 1 minute short film is easy, but there are so many aspects you have to consider. The first thing you have to consider is the angles you are using to portray your film. If you were trying to make a copy like we did, then you have to make every single scene count. We had to pay attention to the angle of the shots, the lighting of the shots, the setting of the shots, and of course the style of filming.Ā

The first step of re-creating a film is making a storyboard. Your storyboard doesnā€™t have to be detailed, but it has to be precise. Make a drawing for each one of the different shots and angles and then youā€™ll be able to follow along better. A storyboard is a simple, but effective way of figuring out which shots you will need to make. Once we finished making the storyboard, we were ready to film.

Part of being attentive to detail is your costumes and settings. Since I was the runner (the main character) I had to be dressed accordingly. The runner in the RUN! video is wearing a tracksuit, so I tried my best to get a sweater and sweatpants to make it look like a tracksuit. A second detail is that the runner is wearing a grey toque. Since I couldnā€™t find a grey toque, I had to make do with the black one. And the final detail is that the runner has earbuds in. I also couldnā€™t find earbuds with strings so I had to use wireless ones. Once my costume is ready my group and I headed outside to film. We had to be careful in choosing our filming spot somewhere where we wouldnā€™t be interrupted too frequently by other groups or other people. We chose the perfect spot in a trail that fit the setting of the original video.Ā

It was challenging to get all of the correct shots, but once we were done, it was time for the editing stage. Since I was the editor, I was in charge of inserting the sound that we had filmed and also editing the video so it looked more like the original. Sound is one of the most immersive parts of any movie or show so itā€™s critical that you get it right. Once I was done editing the video, I posted it to my YouTube. (Iā€™ll leave a link.)

Thanks for reading this post! My next post will probably be after winter break (unless the teachers are ruthlessā€¦) I hope you enjoyed the details of recreating a short film.Ā

Echos of Colonization

The Echos of Colonization

Heeelloooo and welcome back people! Itā€™s been a while since I posted my last blog post, because I have better things to do in my time (protecting Gotham šŸ¦‡), but you probably didn’t miss me so it doesnā€™t really matteršŸ—æ. Anyways, for this post I will talk about my humanities project, called Echos of Colonization. It was all about, well, colonization! And if you donā€™t know, colonization is the act of taking a piece of land and calling it your own, regardless of people living there previously. This project was about the colonization of North America, specifically Canada. In 1603, French explorer Samuel Du Champlain arrived in the St. Lawrence River, with the intent of setting up the first ever colony in Canada. Many explorers had come before him and had been trading with the First Nations Groups for centuries earlier but none had actually made a permanent settlement. It all went downhill from there.Ā

Consequences of Colonization:

The driving question for this project was ā€œWhat were the consequences of colonizationā€? There were many consequences that came from colonization, but for this project my group (consisting of Eloise, Evelyn, Brooklyn, and Myself) and I decided to focus mainly on health, and gender roles. I think that the ultimate answer to the driving question is, Indigenous people losing their identityā€™s. After the Europeans came to North America they striped the First Nations, of their identities by putting them in residential schools in order to make them lose their language, culture, connections, beliefs, and there for losing their identities as Indigenous peoples. But with reconciliation on the way, and by learning about our previous actions towards indigenous peoples, we can help anyone who has lost their identity to gain it back.

Craft:

I learnt a lot with this project but I think that the most I learned was about Craft. If you didn’t know, Craft is a really good note taking and document creating app on our IPads, that lets us organize our thoughts however we like! Before I learnt about Craft, I would just take unorganized notes in pages or other apps but now I can be really organized with my documents. (And no, this blog post is not sponsored by Craft).Ā

The Keynote:Ā

For our final project we made a 15 slide keynote that we would present to the grade 11ā€™s (uh ohā€¦šŸ˜³) talking about the significant consequences of colonization. We made the keynotes in groups of 3 (except for my group which was a group of 4) my group consisted of Eloise, Brooklyn, and Evelyn. I will link to their blog posts down below if you want to check those out. Anyways, for the keynote, we got to choose one or two main topics we would talk about, my group chose to talk about health before, at the time, and after colonization, and gender roles before, at the time, and after colonization. We talked about many things like small pox, covid, mental health, infant mortality, malnutrition, and many more health related things that were impacted by colonization. As for the gender role side, we talked about clan mothers, two spirited people, patriarchal structures, violence towards indigenous women and girls, how men get paid better for sports and get better opportunities and how now, we have more equality. We also had a fun quiz at the end of the presentation, to keep our viewers listening. All is well and ends wellā€¦. OR SO WE THOUGHT!!! [insert dramatic music] We were assigned ANOTHER keynote! But there was a huge twistā€¦. The keynote could only be 2 slides and only have three words per slide! It was also timed, it couldnā€™t be over two minutes, or else we would be FAILED!!!! (Iā€™m kidding with that last part) Anyways, this keynote had to answer our driving question which was (if you were paying attention you would know by reading above) What were the consequences of colonization? I chose to talk about loss of identity, residential schools and reconciliation in my slide.Ā

ANYWAYSā€¦.. Thatā€™s that! Thanks for reading! Donā€™t forget to check out my group members blogs which I will link to down below.Ā

7 things YOU donā€™t know about Robin (not the bird)

By: Elsa

Welcome! This is my first ever post! My task is to get you (the reader) to get to know Robin. After this, you will be a master at knowing Robin. I have the great fortune of knowing Robin, for she and I are good friends. She has lots of pizzazz, and is fun to be around. She loves it when I make her ramen whenever she comes over to my house!

1. Favorite food

Robins favorite food of all time is Ramen! She loves the taste and texture of the noodles. If you add a little spice (not a lot) sheā€™ll start worshiping you like a god!

2. Favorite movie

Her favorite movie is Barbie! She loves the humour and basically everything about it, but letā€™s be honest, who doesn’t? Her favourite character is Asian Ken because heā€™s the most radical Ken.

3. Something weird she does

Something normal for her but might be weird to others is her ability to randomly start talking like a cringe furry gamer girlšŸ˜‚! Ā (I also have the habit of joining her when she startsā€¦)

4. Favorite Colour

Robins favorite colour is sage green! She really likes the overall aesthetic of the colour and she finds it calming to look at.

5. Favorite song

Robin is has been Swiftie for a long time so of course her favorite song is All Too Well by Taylor Swift!

6. Fav sport

Robins favorite sport is basketball because sheā€™s just that coolšŸ˜Ž! She played basketball for 2 years, starting at grade 4.

7. Favourite place to shop

Her favorite place to shop is Urban Planet because the prices are good (as good as they can be with all of this inflation) and there is so much variety to choose from!

Thanks for reading my first ever post! Ā Hopefully you are now a master at knowing Robin!
