MPOL!!!

Hello teachers! It’s mpol time! I have worked hard on this post and all my projects and now I get to show teachers and my parents what I have done.

“Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.”

Vision, mission, and values.

What supports am I using to support my learning?

I am using LAC time to support my learning – LAC gives me more time to complete my work and make it to the best of my abilities. I also have access to one on one support to help me understand my assignments and complete them.

What can I get to help me succeed?- I think I need more specific feedback on projects and assignments. And, more one on one time with teachers during class or in tutorial.

These are all my goals for the year.

One actionable goal that I want to work on for the rest of the year is expanding on homework and getting it done on time. An example of when I worked on this was on my science project. I tried really hard to add more detail within my paragraph. I also got invested in this project and I’m really happy how it came out.

One goal that I really want to work on is my confidence in my academic work. I can show this my handing in what I have instead of not handing anything in until it is completed. I can also accomplish this by trying not to compare myself to other people, and being proud in myself and what I create.

Another goal that connects to my previous goal is try not to get as jealous of other people. This happens with school and out side of school. I can achieve this goal my feeling proud of my work and loot spend so much time looking at other peoples work. I can

I think I have grown academically this year with my work ethic. I think that if I need something done I will do it and I and proud of myself for using things more. That was one of my goals for this year.

Beyond The Dust

This humanity’s project we had to make a short film about a stuffy we made. The project was called rise of the frankinstuffies.

“How can we, as writers, weave historical details into our creative storytelling to convey a clear and impactful message?”

Doodle notes:

For this part of the project we had to take notes about a video we watched in class. I am really proud of my notes because I put time and effort into making them. I chose the honey come shaped one. There where many Different ones I could shoes from but the one I chose just caught my eye. I didn’t just take notes by writing them but I drew pictures and wrote. Drawing pictures helps me understand more because it gets imbedded into my brain.

The urbanization game:

This was really hard to do because it started off simple like draw 10 trees. But it got way more complicated after the rounds went on. It was about what it was actually like and how more and more space got filled with materials and factories. There where lots of factories by the last round. It was a real shocker. It showed really well how it impacted our environment. It was also really stressful because we had 5 min to complete one stage and there where 12 stages and each stage got harder and more intense. We also had a small space to fill to the brim with stuff that was in each stages. Here is a picture of my map.

Stuffies:

When we started sewing it was exiting but sad at the same time because we had to take our stuffers and rip them apart. We had to take a head from animal and attach it to another one. We worked on sewing for 3-4 days. I named mine Martha and her best friend was named Clara. It was really fun to make and I took a couple of videos:

Hero’s Journey:

Our character had to have a story and it was pretty relaxing because we could write a story that we wanted to make. It was also fun because I like writing. We had to make it into different parts to make a full story.

Film pitch:

The next thing we had to do was make a story board. That was fun to make because in class I locked in and got most of it done. I am really proud of it because the drawing in it are to the best of my abilities.

Storyboard:

The story board was ment to help me film so I could have a better understanding of what I was looking for.

Conclusion:

throughout this project I really enjoyed it and I think that my writing skills got better. I also think that I was productive in this project. Thanks for reading my post and I’ll be posting soon!

Watt The Heck!?

It’s time for the operation. Watt! Well not an actual operation but a game! We had to make a game with energy. We where given a battery, wires, and  tweezers.

driving question

How does electricity shape our society and how can we generate it for more sustainability?

Energy infographic

We had to make a infographic that teaches people about the different ways that energy works. I chose hydropower. Hydropower is used with Water. It is used I’m many countries but it is most used in china. Here is my finished infographic:

The game

We started by making circuits with wires and a battery. We had to make a little light bulb light up. We used different elements as compounds. It was difficult but fun!

We also learned about open and closed circuits, conductors and insulators. Open circuits can not let energy flow because it splits. Closed circuits have no problem because they are closed so there are no gaps in the system.

Open circuit:

We backed the game off of the real game called operation. The first part of the progress was to draw your character. I chose Olaf because he is super cool. After that we had a shoe box and we put tin foil under the lid because it is a conductor of energy. Next we had to connect all of the wires to the battery and that was a lot of trail and error. It was super frustrating because it was ment to work but it didn’t and I didn’t know what was happening. But after a lot of work it finally worked! We had tweezers and we connected the wires to the tweezers to make the light work when the metal tweezers hit the tin foil.

Conclusion

To answer the driving question I think that people use electricity every day and if it where to vanish we would have a big problem. But I think that people should be aware that using electricity comes with a price to your taxes and to the earth. Making electricity creates a gas called greenhouse gasses. that is not god for the environment which is part of the global warming. As I learned we can make electricity more energy efficient. With windmills and hydropower it is better for the environment.

Thanks for reading my blog post.

Take your kid to work day!

Take your your kid to work day.

Driving question 🏎️: How does experiencing a workday shape our view of career choices?

To answer the driving question How does experiencing a workday shape our view of career choices? I think it does because we can see what the job is like and see if I want to have that job and see if it is interesting. This job at the labs on hatchery is 50/50 with outdoor work and computer work. I don’t think I would enjoy working on a computer all day. But I think a balance is good.

In this project we went to a place of work and experienced a day in the life of a job. I went to the Seymour salmon hatchery. It was a wonderful experience and I loved every minute. I learned so many things! Some things that I learned was you need to check if a female salmon was ready to spawn and you do that by feeling the belly and if it it jiggly like jello its ready but if it’s firm then its not ready yet. Also the males are completely hollow inside! But the thing I was there was the interview. There is the link to my video:

We did many different things when we where there. My favourite part was going into the creek. Before we put on waiters and went in! It was so fun but we didn’t go in for fun we had to count and collect data. We didn’t get far until we had to stop because we saw a salmon that was dead. We collected the data then cut it in half. We do that because that’s how we show that that salmon was already counted. I never really thought about it but that makes sense because people could recount the salmon and mess up all the data. After we had lunch and filmed the interviews. We had to take pictures threw out the experience. For our video It had to be 3 min. So it was a challenge to fit everything I wanted in my video because there was a lot I wanted to show.

Spawning

There where two salmon that where ready to spawn and you cut them open until their eggs fall out. Then you have to put the sperm in the eggs. Mix them around for like 30 sec then rinse them in water. You need to be really careful with them because they can pop really easily. After they are all clean we have to disinfect the eggs just in case humans gave the eggs any Diseases.

Conclusion

Thank you letter. At the end we had to send a thank you letter to our mentors.

I am really proud of my letter because it came from my heart and I home y mentor likes it! Thank you for reading my post and I hope you enjoyed feedback is appreciated. Thank you!

Alberta! 🏞️🏔️

Driving question 🏎️ 🏆

How do we become the best versions of ourselves?

To answer this question we went to Alberta, we went there to hike make memories and get life advice. Now you might be thinking if you aren’t familiar with PLP did you just go on a vacation with your class? The answer is nope! We went to Alberta to get life advice from strangers. We had to film them and put all of the videos into one big video.

Hiking  🥾 🏔️

We did many hikes this trip and I dont regret any of them! At the beginning of the trip everyone was dreading the 16.2k hike. But we took one step at a time. The first hike we went on was to the ink pots. That was a beautiful result, it was to amazing and I was so glad i got the chance to go on that trip. Another hike we went on a hike to the top of a mountain and it took about 3 hours, and we thought that was long? Well we were in for a real treat. When we where about half way I was with a couple friends and a little bird was chirping so we diced to take a little break and watch them and then one if the birds landed on my head! That was reall7y funny band i got more energy from that so I ncould keep hiking. When we made it to the top we saw another animal and that was a baby big horned sheep. Inside the building at the top we watched a movie and I with I could have taken a video of life advice because that would have been a great idea. The other hikes were also beautiful but the longest hike(16.2k) was the best! The location was lake Louise. It was the most amazing lake i have ever seen. We started going on a trail to another lake then we went up a really icy snowie slouch mix trail. We made it to the first tea hut, we kept kicking and we made it to a look out spot. We kept kinking and finally we made it our destination the tea house that wasn’t well known. There wher three other people (one group). I had hot chocolate. When we made it down we where so tired.

Other activities 🚤 🕳️

We did other things as well other then hiking and talking to strangers. We went to the only place on earth that is home to the little snails that are left of that species. The hot springs. We saw a hole in the ground and under that hole was a pool that looked so pretty but the bad thing was it smelt. It’s smelted like rotten eggs. It was so gross I could barely stand in the cave. But after we went in the hot spring. It was so nice it was naturaly heated and it was 40 degrees Celsius! It was almost too hot. The lifeguard said that everyone in the hot springs had to take little breaks to sit out or have a cold shower. Because at least one person everyday passes out because of the heat. One if the other really fun things was going to the glacier. We where on one glacier part of the Alaska ice feilds. After we went on the glacier the tour guid said the glacier will last about 60 years before the glacier is completely gone. Later on our trip we went on a boat on minawanka lake. We learnt many facts like one pack of wolfs live on one side and there is no wolfs on the other!

Banner in the sky 🪁

In humanities we did a project called banner in the sky. It was a book that we had to read, the main character was named Rudi. Rudi was a blond boy that was skinny and kind. He was poor and he only had his mom and uncle. Rudi wants to clime a mountain called the Citadel. But his mom and uncle wondnt let him go because that’s where his father died. After the book we got a person to do a character sckech.

Viral video!

Another video we had to make was our “Viral Video” we had to find a trend and make a video using that trend about our trip to Alberta. The trend I used was basically you lead to one side of the screen and you “fall”. I did this in many different places and they where all beautiful! I really enjoyed making this video.

Silent film 🎞️ 🎥

The first stop in Alberta was called the three valley gap. It was kinda odd but if was cool. Nest to the hotel there was a ghost town! It was so cool the bell family moved everything the got there and made it look so real!

Conclusion

To wrap up this blog post, it’s clear that life advice holds significant potential to impact us in meaningful ways. As we’ve explored the driving question how do we become the best version of ourselves? By understanding the question more we can accomplish anything that can make us at our peak potential. Thank you for reading, and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!

Spring exhibition time! 🌸🌷🌱

Intro

Well there is a first for everything! Todays first is the spring exhibition. For our exhibition we made ads. Now you might be thinking ads for what? Now I’m going to tell you! We made ads for Oregon coast.

Driving question 🏎️🏁

For this project the driving question was how does language Inspire adventure? In this blog post I will be  answering that question to best of my abilities. To me adventure can mean many different things the word adventure to me means many different things. The first thing that comes to mine when I hear the word adventure is a forest. This is because I have seen many different movies that are adventures and most of them take place in the jungle/forest. The next thing when i think about it a little more is boating, because every summer we go boating with my friends and family. We always go somewhere new and Elsa and I always go exploring. Adventure for me can also mean exploring. If i where to think about it a little more some books come into mind, like the book that Gemma wrote. Or Amelia Airhearts story. Her plain crashes in the forest and a new adventure has begun, If she didn’t die in the plain crash. But when I think of the word adventure can mean many things!

The trip to Oregon.

On the trip to Oregon we all had a great time. The purpose of his trip was to learn how language inspired adventure like the driving question. It was a great experience for me personally because I got to encounter new experiences and bond with my fellow classmates. It was also a great experience to learn about different parts of our world. As well as encounter it  for ourselves. On the trip we went on many different hikes. My favourite hike was to the knoll/ Gods thumb👍. Its called that because it looks like a thumb. We went on a hike to many different places and it was really hot. We also went on so many museums is crazy. My favourite one was the evergreen space and aviation museum. There was a lot of planes and I found that really interesting and we went on the Spruce goose. I think that was one of the highlights of the trip again another highlight of the trip was definitely because they were so long and they were so sandy it was amazing. Too many many buffets and my favourite one was the sushi buffet on the last day. I feel like our class really bonded on this trip, and I am really glad that I got the opportunity to go.

The exhibition

This exhibition was really fun because we had some really great food like cake pops and brownies. My group was Brooklyn, Carmyn, Robin, Oliver and Sawyer. We did a great job I think. We had a really nice set up for our exhibition. It opened at 5:30 and ended at 8. My break was at 5:30. I think that was the best time to have the break because its in the middle of the exhibition so you can take a break and then keep working! It was a bit of a struggle to stay on task but I tried my best. The food tat everyone had looked so good!

conclusion

So how dose language inspire adventure? Well like I said it can be in many different ways but I think language inspires adventure because if people want to learn a new language then they can go travailing. Or if people went travelling they could be inspired to learn a new language. People can also just go places to see what that language sounds like? Thanks for listening/reading this years blog post on the spring exhibition! See you next year for this post!

The T-pol Time!

Hello it’s T-Pol time! So let’s cut to the chase. Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.

I first thing I would like to talk about in agency is seeking help. When it comes to to seeking help I am really good at asking for help. I know when I’m stuck and need help. I can go up to a teacher and ask for help. I will also be respectful when I receive feedback. That leads to the next subject. Receiving feedback, I can hand something in and get feedback to change my work to make it the best of my abilities.

The next section is engagement. In this section I will be talking about Helpfulness. To define helpfulness it is to be Helpful to other learners in creating a positive and supportive learning community. I am really good at making a positive learning community, as well as helping others understand the assignment. The last subject in this section is reflection. I can look back and make sure all of my information is correct about my post. I can also look at the first post I did and look at the most recent one, I will be able to tell the difference with my personal growth.

Preparation, in school. In school I will be at Class on time and ready to learn. I would have my iPad charged (No juice, No use!) Our class norms! I will also bring a good attitude to my school and classrooms. Outside of school. Outside of school is a a little different story. I will get to everything on time. (Most of the time). But consistency might be a bit of a struggle for me. I am trying to get better at it but I think that is one of the things that need time to work on.

Communication and collaboration with teachers can mean many different things but to me it means communicating with teachers proactively and directly (not through parents). I can do that in many different ways. The first way is by going to school and having a discussion with them. Or talking to them with technology. Talking to teachers can be difficult with technology because you could get distracted by the power of the internet. 🛜

Humanities, humanities is a really hard subject for me. I get really stressed when I have a lot of work to do in little time. I deal with my stress by taking little breaks. The most recent projects we did was called The wilderness must be explored! 🏔️. The Driving question was how can language inspire adventure. In this project we had to make ads that were for Oregon. If you’re wondering why for Oregon that’s so random. Well it’s not, as a class we all went on a field trip. It was the best field trip ever! We did so many fun things and I thing that trip made us all bond as class. I really enjoyed that trip although the work was a bit overwhelming I did get it done and I’m really happy with how my book turned out. I think my humanities skills have grow since last semester because I am getting my work done and handed in on time. Last semester I would completely forget about assignments that were due a week ago. And I would leave projects to do last second. Or do them but just not hand them in.

My book ⬆️

Science 🧫

In this semester we had science. It was a new experience for me and my class mates as we entered the world of science. I love science so I was exited for this. I don’t really know how to compare science but I think I did well in science this year because I handed everything in on time and worked really hard on all of it. But I think I really liked science and I’m exited for it next year! Yesterday we dissected sheep eyeballs. It was really fun/ gross. I in joyed it but I wish it didn’t smell so weird and didn’t give me a headache. But I think I am ready for next year!

    My ad for science!

September

In September I want to get all my work in on time and my work to me the best of my abilities. I also plan to get proficient in all of my classes. That is my goal for next year. To complete my goal I will create a detailed schedule and set specific, achievable milestones for each class. I’ll allocate dedicated time for studying, assignments, and reviewing material to ensure I understand the content thoroughly. Seeking help from teachers and classmates when needed, and using resources like textbooks and online tutorials, will also be part of my strategy. Regular self-assessment and adjusting my study techniques will help me stay on track and improve continually. By staying organized, focused, and proactive, I am confident I can meet and exceed my academic goals.

Conclusion

Thank you for listening and providing feedback to help me grow as a learner. I will take your feedback and store it in my brain for next years achievements.

🦠Small but mighty🦠

Hello this is a new kind of post. This one is about science.

💉Understanding Vaccines: A Vital Tool for Public Health💉

Vaccines have been one of the most significant advancements in modern medicine, saving millions of lives annually and helping to eradicate or control many infectious diseases. Understanding how vaccines work, their benefits, and the importance of vaccination can empower individuals to make informed decisions about their health and contribute to the overall well-being of society. People also think vaccines cause autism. But they are so wrong! Autism is a disability from birth. I made an ad to prove that vaccines don’t cause autism.

That ad was my favourite because it is my style and the colours look really nice together. Other mini projects  we did was the bacteria slides. Now they were funky! When the weeks went by the turned out to me so gross! They also smelt like spoiled mink and meat. It was nasty! Here are some photos!

this was the bottom of my shoe there where many different colours and shapes. I tossed those shoes out! We also did many other experiments. But this one was by far the best one. In this one we had to find a surface to swab. For me I chose the bottom of my shoe because I thought it would be really disgusting. It was. Over a couple of days you could start to see the growth on the sides but then over a couple of weeks it was like a rainforest of life. It’s crazy how you can’t see anything on your shoes that is visible to the eye. But if you were to put your shoe under a microscope it would be amazing to see how much bacteria called your shoe home. Now to answer the driving question How does our knowledge of cell biology contribute to public health? To answer that question I think our knowledge help public health because scientists can help people get better of prevent people from getting sick. They can also teach people that a getting vaccinated will actually help.

Consequences of colonization

Introduction

It’s been a little while since my last blog post! I also noticed there are people visiting my blog from all around the world, which is pretty cool, so hello! Anyway I should keep on track! The driving question for this project is what was the consequences of colonization? Well I will be answering that question in my own words. This project was about colonization and how it impacted the indigenous peoples. In this project we had to make a keynote presentation and present it to the grade 11 who where studying indigenous peoples as well. The first step was note making. This means we Took articles and where writing down the important stuff.

The keynote 💻

The keynote didn’t take as long as I expected it too. This is because we presented with our groups. Madeline J and Ella H where in my group. Our two main focuses where Indigenous architecture and recourses. We had 14 slides including our Kahoot! Slide. We where presenting to the grade 11 BCFP class.

individual keynote!

The rules where the keynote was 2 slides and 3 words on each slide.this was a complicating situation.

The thinking 🤔

I was confused because how are you supposed to answer this: what where the consequences of colonization? To me the consequences when very diverse. But mostly land destruction and taken culture ways.

The keynote 💻

The keynote only took like an hour because it was only two slides! But I made presenter notes. Those are notes that you can see but the audience can’t see them. The presentation had a time limit of two minutes. I don’t know how long I took but I do know that some people went over 2 minutes. Colonial Architecture 🏠🗿

Colonial powers often imposed their architectural styles upon the territories they colonized, leaving behind structures that reflected their cultural influence and power dynamics. From the neoclassical buildings of British colonies to the Spanish colonial architecture found across Latin America, these structures serve as tangible reminders of the colonial past. The architectural landscape often mirrored the hierarchical structures of colonial society, with grand governmental buildings and opulent residences juxtaposed against more modest structures occupied by the local populace.

Resource Exploitation 🐟🎣🗿

Colonialism was often driven by the pursuit of natural resources, leading to the exploitation and extraction of valuable materials from colonized lands. Whether it was minerals, timber, or agricultural products, colonies were viewed as sources of wealth to be exploited for the benefit of the colonial powers. This resource extraction had profound environmental and social consequences, leading to deforestation, soil degradation, and displacement of indigenous communities.

Conclusion

The architecture of colonization stands as a testament to the complexities of power, identity, and resource exploitation. By examining the intersection of architecture and resources within the context of colonization, we gain insights into the enduring legacies of colonialism and the ongoing struggles for decolonization and cultural autonomy. As we navigate the complexities of our built environments, it is imperative to confront the historical injustices embedded within them and strive for a more equitable and sustainably.

My first ever Mpol!

Mpol

An Mpol is a mid year presentation of learning. So I have to show you all of my work that I think show my learning best this year so far. Thank you for coming to my presentation on learning. I am the expert of my own learning I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation if my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner. I will start of with of Maker

The first thing that I will talk to you about is my user manual.

This is basically a guide that tells you all about me. It will help you understand what I’m like and  what I’m interested about. It was fun making it because I know me best and I could put anything I wanted into it. The next thing I would like to talk about is my learning plan. I have made a learning plan for myself and others. It shows my goals and other things.

Humanities (the hardest subject in my opinion)

The thing that I would choose to show my work is my mind node.

This mind node was about world you had to have different aspects of worldview. I think it was best to show because it really thought me about worldview and helping me understand worldview.

Science

For science I’m choosing the video game. We had to make a video on atoms and it had to shown our knowledge of atoms. I made two because the first one didn’t really show my knowledge so I made another to really show my knowledge. So I would get full marks. I will also talk about my humanities project called working with words. In this project I will be talking about the poems I made. I put all of the poems I made into a book.

(Video game link)

My favourite poem was one of my haiku poems. They where really fun to make. This is coming to the end of my first ever Mpol. Thank you for coming and listening! See you next time bye! 🍕🍟🍿
