Google Year Review – 2016

Today is class, we watched Google’s year in review of the top searched topics in 2016. It’s a video like YouTube Rewind that shows clips from important trends and events that occurred this year. Some of these included the election in the U.S , the France terrorist attacks, and of course, bottle flipping.

The review included many iconic people, such as Prince and Justin Trudeau. One person I didn’t recognize was Grace VanderWaal, who I later found out was the winner of America’s Got Talent. She sung the background music for the video. I also didn’t know about the Spacex crash, because I hadn’t seen it on the news.

One search trend I was surprised of was meatloaf (yes this is a trend). I’m guessing it is because of people looking up meatloaf recipes, but still this makes no sense. I am also surprised of people looking up about the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series, not because it’s a weird thing to search, but because the Cubs actually won the World Series!

If I were to do my own reflection on stuff that has been important to me in 2016, starting high school would be at the top of my list. Not only do you change schools and meet tons of new people, but the style of learning changes greatly, especially if you go into a program like PLP. Another thing that is important to me is all of the snow we have got this year. Typically in North Vancouver, we get 0-2 snow days per year (not including higher up in the mountains). This year however, we have had constant snow since the first week of December. This is great because I like skiing, sliding, snowfort building, and anything else that has to do with snow.

Alot of interesting stuff has happened this year, so I’m glad there is a recap so we can remember it. I feel it is important to have these reviews so that future generations can look back and know the important events of 2016. It is also a great way for people who haven’t been watching the news much, to know the important events that could potentially effect the near future (oh, and if you are not interested in news stuff, watch the video for the epic bottle flip!)
