Atomic Habits Artifact ⚛️
“How Can Small Changes in My Habits Shape My Success This Year and Beyond?” That was our driving question for this project in Careers. This entire class, as well as the topic of this project was very new to me. Careers is a new class that was added into our grade 10 curriculum, just for this year. Unfortunately I need this class to graduate, so I had to make sure that I understood what I was doing before answering the driving question. In this project, we were asked to read the book ‘Atomic Habits’ by James Clear. After reading the book, we were told to take what we had learned and create an artifact. The artifact had to show what we learned from ‘Atomic Habits’, how this artifact represent my habits, and answer our driving question.
My artifact was a video that I made. I had recently gotten a new vanity for my room, and thought that recording myself building it would be a great addition to my artifact. I chose to focus on a specific chapter from ‘Atomic Habits’ in my video. Chapter 2: How Your Habits Shape Your Identity (and Vise Versa). I wanted this video’s theme to be about my identity ‘I am an independent person’. I talk about how my identity shapes my success, what James Clear’s book has taught me about my daily habits, and how I can relate all of that back to building and growing on my identity. To do this, I had to plan out my video, visual my end product and make it come to life.
This was my original video plan and pitch.
I was going to make my identity ‘I am an organized person’. But then I realized, it wasn’t the best fit for this project, since I am already good at organizing my life. I wanted my identity to be something that I am still working on, and sometimes struggle with. That is when I decided to change my focus into independence.
My final video ended up being much easier to create than I originally thought. Once I had my script written down, I was able to film, record, and edit my video easily. My final outcome of my artifact is something that I am quite proud of.
Overall, I think that small changes in my habits can shape my success, by building over time and making a big impact. In the beginning of ‘Atomic Habits’ James Clear talks about small changes in your daily habits. He says “Success is the product of daily habits—not once-in-a-lifetime transformations.” Though small changes may seem insignificant and don’t make a big difference in your daily life, overtime you will see how it has shaped you into who you are today, and that small changes are the building blocks to success.
