Another Post About Emojis

Hello!

Another late post. Great. Evelyn+Homework=Late Blog Posts. Oh well.

Week 7 of the Student Blogging Challenge is all about emojis! Fun! I wrote another emojis post last year, too.

I can’t believe we are on week 7 already. Well, technically we’re on week 8. I’m just late, as usual.

Ok, I’m going to stop talking about that now.

Emojis are fun. I use them all the time when I’m texting my friends, my grandma, and even writing blog posts! Especially my grandma. She loves heart emojis. Hi Nana! ❤️😍

That, however, is irrelevant.

First of all, I’m going to use a website called byrdseed.com to randomly generate emojis for a story prompt. Here goes nothing!

Once upon a time there was a koala named Kelly. Kelly loved school and was a good student. But she was always being pushed around by the big bully, Patty the Panda. Kelly prayed that Patty would stop being mean to her, but it never worked.
One day, while Kelly was hiding from Patty in the playground, she smelled something magnificent. She hadn’t eaten anything today since Patty had stolen her lunch, so she decided to follow the scent. She scampered (how do koalas run?) through the school and found a bowl of instant ramen sitting on a desk inside. Kelly was so hungry she didn’t even stop to think. She shoveled  it into her mouth.
Suddenly, Kelly heard a grunt behind her. She turned around, and saw the teacher standing there. “That was my ramen”, he said. “You will pay for eating my ramen.”
Kelly was scared. She ran out of the school and down the road. I know, she thought. I’ll catch the next rocket ship to space. The teacher will never find me there. But when she neared the rocket ship, Kelly got a nasty shock when she realized it was already taking off! “Wait for me!” She yelled, but it was too late. The rocket ship was gone.
Suddenly, she heard footsteps behind her and turned to find that the teacher was catching up. She hopped on the nearest bike and started pedalling down the road. Kelly knew that the teacher was approaching fast, so she had to be as quick as she could.
Kelly was pedalling speedily when she turned the corner and found that the road was blocked! She had no time to think. She dove off her bike and into a pond.
Kelly couldn’t breath. She floundered in the pond. Opening her eyes, she saw a fish swimming towards her. She felt her consciousness drifting away as she passed out.

There. A beautiful story by Evelyn. I should write a book.

You can write a comment with your ending to this story! How does it finish? Does Kelly get eaten by the fish? Does she become best friends with it after it saves her? Does she drown?

I look forward to hearing your endings.

That was really fun! I love writing absurd stories from prompts. For some reason it brings me a lot of joy to go on and on about koalas that love ramen. I am a strange human being.

For my next act, I will provide you with a series of emojis and you will have to guess the book that they represent. I love reading so much, so this should be fun.  I will try to make them pretty famous books so that it isn’t too hard.

Number 1

Number 2

Number 3

Number 4

Number 5

Yay! Leave a comment with your guesses.

Here are the answers! Only check in here if you have already guessed.

  1. Harry Potter
  2. The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
  3. The Lord of the Rings
  4. Anne of Green Gables
  5. Charlotte’s Web

I actually found it really hard to get emojis that accurately represented the books. There is a large selection of emojis, but an even larger selection of objects that there are no emojis for. I had to get creative, so sorry if that threw you off.

That concludes this post! I  decided to go for a slightly shorter post this time (though it’s still almost 800 words, so I guess the word “shorter” is relative). I hope you enjoyed it, and make sure to comment your ending to Kelly’s story and your guesses for the emoji guessing game!

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy, and have a great day!

Cheers,

Evelyn 👩🏽

    Hi Evelyn,

It’s Kathleen here from the Student Blogging Challenge.

I’m sure I’ve told you before how much I admire your work. You’re one of the most talented student bloggers I’ve ever seen!

One thing I’ve noticed you’ve been doing is creating bitmojis for your feature images. I just love them. They’re so creative. I’m wondering if you could let me know, where do you create these? And were you asked to do it or is it something you just came up with?

I’m writing a post about digital portfolios to help other teachers and I hope I can share your example.

    Thanks!
    Kathleen

Hi Ms. Morris! Thanks for your kind words!

I’m so happy you like my blog. I really enjoy writing in it and it brings me joy that others have fun reading my ramblings as well!

Bitmoji is an app that you can download from the Apple App Store (I use an iPad). I’m not sure if it’s available on other devices. You have to make an account to use it as well, so that’s something to bear in mind. I’m pretty sure it comes from the social media app Snapchat, but I literally know nothing about Snapchat, so don’t take my word for it!

Once you create an avatar, you can pick from a extensive collection of random pictures. You can save them to your camera roll or simply copy and paste them into your blog.

I really like using them as feature images because there is such a wide selection of images to choose from, and they are so unique and crazy. I also like that the avatar is so customizable. They are easy and fun to use, and sometimes I edit them in Photoshop to make them fit my message better.

I decided to use them on my own, not because it was a requirement. My mum introduced me to the app and I thought it was fun, and now it’s kind of become a theme on my blog.

Sorry, this reply turned into a bit of a blog post on it’s own!

Thanks for commenting, and for your lovely compliments! I really enjoyed the Student Blogging Challenge, and had a lot of fun!

      Stay safe and healthy!

      Hi Julia!
That’s weird about not being able to log in. Oh well, now you get a cool monster icon instead of your avatar.

Anyways, I’m glad you enjoyed my post! It’s great that you managed to guess most of the emoji sentences. I was worried that they were a bit too obscure!

I would love it if we could talk more often as well! That would be fun.
I will make sure to check out your blog again. Thanks for the link!

      Stay healthy,
      Evelyn
