Deep Cove Ad Reflection

In my humanities class we had to make ads for local companies, the company my group chose to make a business ad for, was Café Orso.

Café Orso is an English style cafe in Deep Cove, that has been operating for roughly 10 years. The café has had a total of two owners. Our group, which included Ben, Lauren and Kaia and I, met with someone who had worked for the company for 4 years, we spoke with them about the business and making an ad for them. They asked us to feature their coffee or croissants in the ads we were making for them. Here is a slideshow of drafts one to five.

In the process between draft one and draft five, I edited the font, changed the slogan, and adjusted and cropped the photo. Have you noticed in the cup of coffee there is an image of Deep Cove’s Quarry Rock? That is my favourite part of the ad.

The next week we went to Pound and Grain a big-picture digital advertising company based in downtown Vancouver. We spent about two hours at their office. I was impressed by the creative and architectural design of the office space. We showed the employees at Pound and Grain our ads to be critiqued. We received mostly positive comments and some constructive feedback. After that they told us a little about when and how the company was started.

So far I am enjoying learning about advertising and digital media.
