How does what we see, read and hear influence us?
When we see something intriguing on TV we want to do something like it. Whether it be buy somethings, try an activity or simple watch another episode. Commercials are the company’s way of getting our attention. Commercials get my attention by giving exclusive details about their products. Company’s use special language to make me feel like I’m part of something special like: exclusive or secretive or special offer.
If you read a book written by an author with a certain perspective with valid points you might believe them. The author might be shaping your reality. It is your responsibility to make sure you read authors who have a different perspective. You want to have all the information to make your own conclusions.
When you hear someone with a certain point of view on podcasts, conversations, audiobooks or TV it influences you on their point of view. However, it is always healthy to seek out other points of view. You don’t want to only know one point of view and then get carried away with it. It leads to stubbornness and stupidity. First off, Flat Earthers – how do you explain seasons or Elon Musk’s livestream from space that showed a ROUND EARTH! Anti-Climate-Change Protesters – explain the rising ocean levels, not to mention the planet heating up. Anti-Vaxxers – of all the things not to trust, modern medicine is not one of the smartest. These people get their information from their Facebook friends. They should stop listening to their friends who have all the same opinions and read the hundreds of scientific studies on all of these things.
We should all read, listen to look up lots of different opinions. That was we can have many to choose from. That way we won’t go on stupid rants or buy stupid products.
What did I struggle with?
I struggled with not using stock images. I found that the stock images were more creative. The advertisement stock images used a lot of candy and I didn’t want to ask my mom to buy all that stuff to take a picture myself. I got stuck on the idea of using my own images because stock ones looked better.
What are you proud of?
I was proud of the final result because A: of how simple it was B: of how effective it was. The simplicity was effective because it dragged your attention to one central object. I was proud of my group work because I did it so well. Tom, Charlie Sophia and Hannah were nice to me and patient. They helped me keep my cool.
What did I learn?
It was very challenging. What I found the most challenging was making my own images. I will more than likely ask the teacher next time if I am allowed to use stock images or not during our tasks next time.
This is a book I made about my stay at loon lake; have a read. IMG_6008
