behind the scenes

The early 2000’s style is kinda referencing to the 60’s hippy look with the dress over jeans and the cowl necked tops, and don’t you think I forgot about the most important part, the extreme low rise. Now thanks to Britney Spears the whole 2000s y2k look revolved around them!! The downside of low-rise was the societal pressure of being ‘skinny’ which has stayed with humanity since… sadly most of eating disorders occur in the age gap between 12-25 for women in 2021 which means a big amount of that age group is teens…

The ‘ideal’ body was to have a super flat, toned stomach and the ‘perfect’ size was size 0 and anyone over size 2 was ‘fat’.. teens used to think that if you weren’t ‘as skinny as a runway model’ that you wouldn’t be able to wear certain clothing items. This left many millennials unhappy with their body’s. Also notice how all of the female actors in movies like legally blonde and mean girls crazy thin?! That’s because directors would rarely hire girls with curves. Star Drew Barrymore was probably the ‘fattest’ main character in the early 00s movie list. Also, the actor of the lead in a 90s classic Alicia Silverstone was known as ‘ fat girl’ when she was in the filming process of the movie batgirl. Alicia has thought about quitting  acting because of the horrible comments she was receiving from the world. As we can see, that era wasn’t very fun for teens mental health and hopefully we can forget stage and move on with better standards for women.

later 🙂

Heyyy Frankie. It’s so important to look back over the unrealistic bodies in this fashion era and think about how to move forward with this awesome style while still being body positive! Im wondering how you think this era of fashion has affected todays trends? Anyway this is so cool the 2000s seem super neat.
