For the past while in Maker we have been learning about works safety. Because we are in grade nine and lots of us are getting jobs now our teacher thought it would be a good ideas for us to learn how to be safe on our jobs. The three main things we touched on were: you have the right to refuse unsafe work, making sure we re properly trained and some of the risks. We started this unit by watching a very graphic video about young workers injured on the job. Then we watched a couple more videos that were about how employers are supposed to handle work safety. They are supposed to do these three things: Orientation, Training, Supervision.
To help remember that you have the right to refuse unsafe work I made this poster:
I think that what we have learned doing this is really going to come in handy for my future jobs. I now know what employers are supposed to so I know if I’m getting the right training and things like that. Also I now know that if I have a good reason to think something unsafe I can refuse to do it and I know the step to take to do that.
