Colonization is a big topic with so many things to go over! But what if we could only choose one topic, the topic we talked about for our presentation and got to add out own unique touches to make it different from everyone else’s. 99.9% of people like to hear about the health of colonization and thats what we chose, stick around to hear how it went!

Choosing the Topic:
Since I had such a great group it was pretty easy to figure out what our topic was and compromise because we all like similar things and are good at talking. We chose health though because I think that we all found it interesting and a good topic to research further.
The Next Steps:
The next steps was doing research, I was able to find a lot of good websites, some even that indigenous peoples wrote themselves, which really helped because I was able to back myself and my words up a lot. We were able to ration off the slides with who’s doing what and finished with time to practice.
Presenting Day
On the say we were presenting we went into the library where we found the table with our number on it. Were were given a few grade 11s to present to, the grade 11s were given a sheet that they had to write about our presentation.
The sheets:
Reflection of the Presentation
The first time we presented it definitely didn’t go as planned, we had little cards of what to say and they sort of got jumbled at the beginning which got us a bit nervous and rushed I think. On my part I think overall I did well, since someone wasn’t able to read their big line I ended up taking it on along with the longest other slide. I’m not sure if I talked slow or fast but to me I think I kept a good pace. The thing I would say to work on is looking up more at the audience. This was a good partner working experience and also presenting experience so I think overall most things went well.
Jump Scare/Surprise
So right after we finished our presentations we were in humanity’s and we got told we get to do a solo presentation of the driving question! Yay it was quite a surprise. The grade 11s got to design our next little assignment and they chose this, we had to make a keynote, it has to have 2 slides each only allowed to have 3 words on it. We could add as many pictures as we wanted. For mine I mostly focussed on health and loss of identity. I felt that these were really important and that I could answer the driving question. Speaking of the driving question lets answer it.
Consequences of Colonization – Driving Question
There are many consequences that came with colonization, some of the are health, the indigenous were affected greatly by diseases being brought over because they’re immune systems weren’t used to all the germs because they were pretty healthy sticking to a lifestyle consisting of nutrition and fresh air. The other consequence I feel is important is loss of identity. There are many examples I could use to show how this affected them but the one I will share is residential schools. This act had such a big impact on the indigenous peoples. So many kids who died many scared from the act of this. There is so many consequences of colonization and so many examples I could use to back up each point I made. We are still trying to rebuild what we broke and I hope as time moves on we are able to build trust and a good community.
