“Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.”

I want to improve in the next year and subjects that I have improved this year. I think that I have improved on my writing blogs I can write long but not boring blogs.

I would like to improve on time management skills. My long term goal is to be able to start an assignment on time. I find that I will procrastinate on completing my homework and prioritize other things that I am interested in. If I can stay focused on completing my assignments, rather than avoiding them until the day before they are due, I will have time to put more effort and detail into my work.

How does the geography affect the West?

The project focused on the importance of geography and how it shapes our daily lives. The driving question was how the geography of the west has shaped who we are. We learned about the five themes of geography – location, place, human environment interaction, movement, and regions. We also learned about the significance of the kelp forest in the ecosystem. Additionally, we were required to create a video at home showing what inspires us and why.

 Loon Lake

The trip to Loon Lake provided an opportunity for students to learn about teamwork, personal growth, and stepping out of  comfort zones. Through personal exercises, and activities such as trust falls, students were able to connect with each other on a deeper level and gain a better understanding of me and my classmates. Overall, the experience was valuable in teaching the importance of trust, personal reflection, and the ability to stretch comfort zones in order to grow.

Louis Riel

Louis Riel is celebrated as a hero by the Métis people for fighting for their rights against the Canadian government, but he is also seen as a threat by the government. His legacy continues to shape discussions on Indigenous rights in Canada, highlighting the ongoing struggle for justice. Understanding the complex narratives surrounding Riel can lead to personal growth, increased empathy, and a commitment to advocating for justice and equality.

Winter Exhibition

Creating a Rube Goldberg machine to symbolize the French Revolution was a valuable and fun learning experience for our group. Each member contributed their skills and ideas, and we collaborated to connect them all in a chain reaction. I crafted a guillotine out of cardboard, which took several attempts to accurately hit a ball. Despite some challenges, I enjoyed the process and learned important problem-solving skills, resilience, teamwork, and adaptability.

D.I

There are 4 categories: Fine Arts, Technical, Science, and Engineering. I was in Science, paired in a group with Esther, Lila, Christian, and Charlie. As a group, we were struggling with ideas. I made the suggestion that we should focus on Egypt but as a group we talked about Atlantis. Unfortunately Atlantis was already being used by another group, so we went back to ancient Egypt. It was a month of just planning and getting our group materials ready for our presentation before we were able to put our attention to building. Everyone was trying to complete their puppet and team choice element. It was quite chaotic and felt disorganized. We were all trying to get stuff done for regionals.

When the results were announced, we were ecstatic to hear that we had won second place in the Science category. All our hard work had paid off and validation for all the effort we had put into the project.

Looking back, I realized that the journey we went through as a team was just as rewarding as the final outcome. I made friends through the challenges we overcame. The joy of success we were all part of and shared as a group is an unforgettable experience that I will always treasure.

When we came back to the provincials, my group was down two team members. The challenges were much more difficult without the whole group. I also felt that everyone who participated at the provincials were better than those who were at the last event. It was way harder and stressful on everyone, but still fun. I enjoyed that I got to improve. It was a pretty good performance in my opinion. It was a true test of our teamwork and adaptability. I was proud of how we handled the situation. In the end, it was a memorable experience that brought us even closer as a group.

Growth Plan

I want to get better at completing my homework. Ways that I can be successful in this area are by managing my time better and putting my phone away so it is not a distraction and asking my teachers and parents for help when I need it rather than avoiding the work and not doing it. If I can remind myself to stay focused, I can be more successful in completing my work.
