Hello, and welcome back to my blog! This blog post is a unique post because it isnât a summative reflection on a project, itâs reflecting about this yearâs spring exhibition! For those of you who donât know about or have never been able to attend a PLP exhibition, itâs basically a big showcase of all the studentsâ hard work and growth as a learner. Our spring exhibition of 2022 was on June 16.
In preparation, creation, presentation and clean-up of this yearâs exhibition, the PLP grade 8 and 9 students collaborated and worked together. The theme for our part of the exhibition was âwhat does it mean to be a PLP learnerâ, and each room exhibit had a different sub-theme. For example my roomâs theme was âbeyond the classroomâ. The grade 9âs did most of the room planning, so the grade 8âs didnât come up with the room layout, we just added our ideas, practiced what we were going to present and help make props and decorations for the room.
On the day of the exhibition, all PLP learnerâs stayed at school at 3 oâclock and worked together to transform the entrance, hallways, 3 classrooms and the gymnasium. The designated classroom for our group was full of student work, desks and random things, so until the grade 10âs cleaned out their stuff, we couldnât transform our room just yet. Ms. Maxwell told our group to stay out of the way until our room was ready to transformed, so most of us sat in the stairwell and waited. Thatâs what Ms. Maxwell told us. Here we are in the stairwell:
Then after about 5 minutes of sitting and staying out of the way, Ms. Willemse saw us and was like âDonât just sit there and do nothing, if you really have nothing to do, come help me move desks into the gym.â đ
Anyway, I carried desks desks to the gym for a while and then helped other groups with tasks, before getting to decorate our room.
Overall, the exhibition went very well. I talked about our learning advance to Loon Lake and had a slideshow of photos I took, and some photos that peers took as well. I made connections and altered my presentation for each person, to keep things engaging for the audience. My favourite part of the entire exhibition was when I got to go on a break, and I went to see what the grade 10âs, 11âs and 12âs had done.
Their exhibit was in the gymnasium and was about đ„impact in the North Shore community. First I watched a well done introduction video that explained the topic and a few examples of impact makers; like the founder of deep Cove kayak. Then I walked around and listened to most presentations. They explained their chosen impact maker, how theyâve made an impact in the north shore community and explained the portraiture they created of them. I liked hearing their presentations, and seeing all their different and creative portraitures. Anyhow, I think I was on break for over my time limit, but I wasnât messing around, I was admiring what the other students had done.
Great work PLP team! Another successful exhibition!
