Welcome back to Blondie’s blog! Today’s post is one of my last, as I’m dropping out of PLP for next year.
This is my final Tpol!
Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.
First thing I am going to talk about is the core competencies.
For all the competencies, I put either profile 3 or 4. I believe I have met that goal for all of them. I can collaborate meaningfully with my classmates and others, come up with my own ideas and expand on others. In my MPOL, I said I wanted to work more on the personal and social competencies, and I think I have done well with that and grown in those areas.
Next I’m going to talk about each of my subjects, starting with Maker.
In maker, I said I wanted to work on managing my time better and taking my time with assignments and not rushing through them. Throughout this year, I’ve gotten better at managing my time, I’ve achieved this by having a better schedule for the day, which has helped manage stress over homework. One project we did in maker was make a stop motion video. I worked with Gwen. We chose to make a Harry Potter stop motion video. It was hard to get the green screen to work and it didn’t turn out perfect but overall I’m proud of how we worked together and created a video without much trouble.
Next I’ll talk about science. Science was my favourite class this year, it easy to focus because I found what we were learning interesting and engaging. I wanted to work on doing more work in class so I didn’t have a lot of homework and learning how to type so I could take better notes. I didn’t have science this semester, but I was doing a lot of work in class for humanities, so I had very little homework, which I’m happy about. One project I’m really happy with is the Operation games. We had a lot of freedom on what we could theme it on, so I chose Japan (of course).
Finally, humanities. On my learning plan I said I wanted to focus more in class and stay on task. As I said before, this past year I’ve worked hard on that and I think I’m a lot better at doing so. The beginning of the year was a little rough but I’ve gotten past that, and really grown as a learner. One thing I’m really proud of in humanities is our last project about WW1. This was the project for the Spring Exhibition. The topic for my group was traditional perceptions of women vs their role in WW1. Kira and I did contrasting murals, mine showing traditional perceptions of women and hers showing their roles in WW1. I’m really proud of this project because at the exhibition, we were able to have conversations with visitors and people even took photos of our work (random people even not just people we knew). It was really cool to talk with people about that subject, not just talk at them like at most exhibitions.
Next I’ll talk about my disposition, habits, and systems. To achieve my learning plan I said I needed to focus on my work, leave time for myself to finish assignments and check showbie every night to make sure I’m not behind on things. At the beginning of the year, these were all things I needed to work on. Now, by using these skills, I’m able to stay on top of all my schoolwork without stressing.
Why do I think I’m ready to move on to Gr. 10?
I can collaborate with my peers and create meaningful content from working with others or alone. The skills I’ve gained from PLP range from graphic design to making documentaries, digital art, poetry, and public speaking. I think these will greatly help the next few years of high school as well as later in life.
Thank you so much for coming to my Tpol!
