The Government Is Us
Hello, my name’s Indy and in this post I’m going to be telling you about the latest project that I did!
This project was called “Think you can do better?” and it was all about politics, and how we should or would govern ourselves, if we were given the power to do so currently. In this project we formed political groups to try to see if we could do what political parties do. The driving question for this project was How Should We Govern Ourselves?
Answering that question, with the implication that we could actually run and be elected right now, I would say we should govern ourselves by having the best understanding of our own beliefs, we should then find people who those beliefs directly align with, and finally we should make a really solid plan on how to help the people and the future.
Breaking that answer down, I can show you those 3 components that I did throughout the project.
The first thing I can tell you about, is the political spectrum, and how to find yourself on it. When we started this project, the first thing we did was take a quiz on a website called Vote Compass , which helped us determine where we lie on the political spectrum, which if you don’t know looks like this.
I know this probably isn’t the best way to find out where you are, but it is the easiest. The harder way, which is something we did, would be to learn about a bunch of the aspects of politics, figure out how you feel about them, and then use that to further your knowledge and complete understanding.
These were my vote compass results and my short left or right worksheet. Both of these things helped me figure out which direction I really leaned which in the end would have helped me get good ideas for a platform.
The second part to talk about is finding the right people to collaborate with. In the case of this project we didn’t actually get to pick who we were working with. This made things a bit harder especially when it came down to defining our own platform points, and making a good campaign. We started off with a pretty central view, and as we went along we got further and further right, until our party ended up being called the Traditionalist Party of Canada. At the end of the day this was just a political party made by a few high school students, but if it came down to real life, I don’t think I could be part of our party. However I do think for the sake of the project it was kind of interesting to have people with different views trying to make a functional party.
The first piece of evidence I have is the press release that I wrote from my party. It states all of our beliefs and how we were created and all that. This post was really written to be a guide to people, and to explain us.

The second piece of evidence I have here is actually our final piece from this project, which was a political ad for our party. In the end we actually only made one draft, and personally I don’t think we had enough time to prepare for it or make it, so it ended up being a bit chaotic. However in the case of the project, it’s a really good piece of evidence showing understanding in lots of things but mostly our understanding of how to make a political party ad.
The last thing I want to talk about is how working hard to understand what people want to happen and, what you need to happen is important. It’s really important that you know what’s worked so far with people, what topics are controversial, and what things your party and just people in general want with the future.
Some evidence I have of this is my first post on this project which was about smaller parties. I think this can be used as evidence because in this blog post I talk about some of the things that don’t work about these parties, highlighting what would work better, if you were to try to form a party in Canada.

I think that as this project comes to an end it’s good to reflect on because at some point in the future, I and my whole class are going to have to vote, and trying to see it through the point of view of the politicians can help us understand the political situation to the fullest of our ability.
So in conclusion this project was quite fun to do, very hard and I think I learned a lot during, and after.
