Revolution blog post

After a few months of learning about revolutions, building a machine and going through a winter exhibition, I have learned about revolutions and how they change the world.

So this project started at last year so happy new year to everyone!, this project was mainly about revolutions, and the driving question for this project is what factors precipitate “revolution” and how they have shaped the modern world, this project was also part of the winter exhibition in the form of a metaphor machine.

Animal Farm and Revolution theory

One of the first things we did was learn about Crane Brinton’s, theory about revolution. The 4 stages of revolution. The incubation stage is like a developing fever for a country, it can be a financial crisis or a military victory over another country. The moderates stage is wher a moderate rules the country and there are other moderates that get along for now. The crisis stage is where war and violence happens and corruption runs wild. The recover stage is where the moderates are put out of power and the original form of power is restored. The nest thing we did was read a book called“Animal Farm”, the book was basically about a farm and the animals were sick and tired of their human owner, so they overthrow them and the leaders, Napoleon and Snowball later got corrupt and then the humans came back, so basically a revolution, the book was one of the better books I have read in PLP so far and  is a 6/10 for me. We then participated in group discussions and we had to make note and a infographic on the book and how it was a revolution that happened in the book

The Meiji revolution

One of the next things we did for this project was we were put into groups by revolution, I was in the Meiji revolution group which was a group that I did not choose, so then we had to make another revolution infographic on the Meiji revolution. The Meiji restoration was a restoration that took place in the mid 1800s and what happened was a clan family got overthrown from power and Japan took on a imperial rule, the imperial rule changed lots of stuff in the country to industrialize and become a modern global superpower.

The metaphor machine and winter exhibition

So after we made our infographics we started to build our Rube Goldberg/metaphor machine. A metaphormachine is a Rube Goldberg machine that represents something, every action represents something that happened in the revolution We buildt the machine for a few weeks and we’re doing lots of testing and the machine was finally ready for the winter exhibition . The winter exhibition went smoothly and out group did pretty good and so did the other groups. The exhibition was ok for the most part except we had to stand the whole time which made my legs hurt after a while and I think break time should have been longer. I have also seen some of the other performances and the grade 8s did pretty good, and since we did it last year I think they did better than us

Final thoughts and reflections

So before and during the exhibition, I have some thoughts. Firstly, I think our team did well despite the machine not fully working some of the time and we pushed through like our machine did function well. Secondly, I think in the making of the machine, we has some setbacks on our teamwork because we’re were not working very well together sometimes, but we got over it and I think we came back strong from the setbacks. So in conclusion, I think this project went smoothly and I have leaned lots from it.

My answer to the driving question

The driving question for this project is what factors precipitate “revolution” and how they have shaped the modern world. Firstly, revolutions can change government dynamics and religion sometimes, they change the values of the country and its people for many years to come. Secondly, a factor that precitiptates revolution are the people getting sick and tired and rumors about the government go around saying either they are weak and incompetent. Lastly, Revolutions change their country’s by either making or breaking country’s, for example, the Meiji restoration saw the rapid industrialization of Japan marking it a global superpower. In conclusions, this is my answer to the driving question.

Run Remake reflection

After a few weeks of planning and learning about filming and video, I have remade a short film called Run!

So running a remake was one of the more unusual projects that I have done, simply because instead of creating an original creation, we straight up copy someone’s else’s work. One of the first thing we did was watch the video a bunch of times and filmed up a first draft of Run!

Storyboard and screenplay

This was one of the big things we learned in class to aid the creation of the final version of the run short film. I think the screenplay was not needed for this project since the characters are not speaking, but the storyboards was needed more for the creatioin of the final version of the short film

Run!

So the day of filming was approaching and I forgot about it so I did not have the best costume for my character because I forgot about it. The filming part went smoothly but not in an ideal loacation. So in the end, I think my Run short film turned out pretty decent

Reflection

I think in the end, the film turned out pretty good despite the circumstances. I think I did lots of work for my group and contributed lots for my group, which is a good feeling, I think for this project the things I did well were my video editing, but could be improved, also, I think my audio work skills were good in this project. Some things I could have done better was my acting in the final version of the film.

Texas trip

After being in Texas for a week, and by not doing TYKTWD, I have found the top 6 places I have been to Texas for

So last week was supposed to be take your kid to work day, but instead, I went to the great stage of Texas, so I will be sharing the top 5 places I have been to in texas

Dr Pepper museum

In the small town of Waco, there a legind was born, Dr Pepper, Dr Pepper was originally made in a factory in Waco Texas, It was a cool place full of history and there was tons of history and lots of interesting things there. In the end, as part of the admission for the Musium, we got a free Dr Pepper. So in conclusion, it was an interesting musium full of history

The Stockyards in Fort Worth

The stockyards in Fort Worth is a historic area full of culture and lots of interesting places, firstly, they do a show where they bring out bulls for show and it was really cool. Also, there are lots of interesting souvenirs shops with lots of interesting stuff, like a bull balls keychain. So in conclusion, this was an interesting place will full of old Texas.

Museum of Optical illusions

There is a small museum in the centre of the city of Dallas, the museum had lots of optical illusions which was really cool because there was this tunnel one that made it look like you were going upside down and it was one of the weirdest optical illusions I have seen. Also there are lots of interesting illusions there to. There was one where there were half circles that looked different sizes, but were not. So in conclusion, this was an interesting place that will amaze you.

Haha real Cistern artwork

In Houston, there is an art piece underground under the city. The art piece was in a cistern which used to hold 15 million gallons of groundwater for the city. Now it is a stunning art piece with tons of beauty and it was one of the coolest artpiece I have seen in my life

NASA Space centre in Houston

In Houston, there is a place Houston is know for, The nasa space centre. The centre itself is really cool, with lots of cool artifacts and interactive things to do. There are lots of historical artifacts like space suits worn by well known astronauts, there was a space shuttle on top of its transporter plane and there was a place where you could touch moonrock. So overall, it was a cool place and an icon of Houston.

Marshall Texas

So on the second day of Texas, we went to my mom’s friends husbands, Saamar’shometown, Marshall, it was a small town and I met really cool people there, like his parents and his uncle. We then went out into the countryside to see his uncle and Saamar had an ATV which I had so much fun riding in around. So overall, I think it was a fun and cool experience.

Final product

So instead of the TYKTWD video, I have made a video reflecting on the experences I have listed above. So enjoy

The wilderness must be explored

After being on the Oregon coast for a week, doing another exhibition, I am heading into summer break.

The end of the year is near, which means lots of reflection and looking back at the whole year. The driving question for this project is. “How can language inspire adventure.” So in this post, I will answer the driving question for this project.

The driving question

the driving question for this project is, “how can launguage inspire adventure.” An idol can help inspire adventure because first of all, if a certain peoples idol is in a ad, they might get inspired because its their idol, if they really suck up to them that hard, they will most likely go. For example, if Taylor swift has some sort of concert in the Swiss alps and it is hard to get there, people will probably adventure up that mountain and see the concert. Secondly, advertisements that really get to people’s hearts will be more sucessful selling a product or an experience. Another type of ad that will inspire adventure is ads with a certain wow factor that blows people’s socks off. How it could happen is very professional videography and the overall beauty of the place. Lastly, emotion and experience inspires adventure. The companies that offer the trips don’t sell the tickets, they sell experience and emotion going on those trips. In conclusion, that is my answer to the driving question

Learning and comtepcies

One of the first things we did when we started this project was a hike to quarry rock. We hiked to quarry rock and took picture and interviewed some random people to ask the why they went there. We made ads with the photos from quarry rock. We learned some advertising techniques and design before the the main event, the Oregon coast. In Oregon, we visited places on the coast and we filled out a book with questions of the place we went to. The competencies were communication, how we used to communicate in this project was our ads and our book

Spring exibition

So as part of this project, we had to do another exibition, the spring exibition. It was very similar to the winter exhibition, but we were outside. I got in a group with Evelyn, Finnley, Danny, Gemma, and Chloe. We worked on our Oregon ads and revised quite a lot, but we got our ads In on time. I was in charge of food in this project and hospitality. When the exhibition actually happened, it went smoothly, but we did not have too many customers to our stand the whole time. So overall, I think we did good but I think personally, we could have tried harder on our stand and prepared more. So overall, I think we did good.

Tpol

After 10 months of being in PLP, creating, envisioning, and learning, we are approaching the end of the year.

Mom and dad, this is ms kadi.

Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner

The main event

We all are approaching the end of the school year this year and for PLP, it’s a time of reflection, looking back on how they did on all their classes this year. So the main 3 focuses are resilence, engagement and focus.

Resilence

To tell my learning story this year for agency this year is resilience, resilience was not something that I experienced during the school year, it was only once or twice that I practiced resilience. It was during DI. One time for DI we had to do a dress rehearsals for our first tournament. Only me and Eloise showed up to the dress rehersal and we pushed through the rehearsal and it was hard not having 2/3 of our group not there. So overall, I think this was a great example showing resilience.

Engagement

Engagement was also another competency I did not practice that often, like I only did it when we did DI and starting new project and doing group work. I think one of the best examples of me practicing contributing and enthuestic was on the Oregon trip when we were doing the ROV challenge at the Hatfield marine centre, I was doing the most work in the group, I was directing people on building the robot and this was one of the only times I was enthusiastic  while learning, so overall, I think this is a great example of me demonstrating those competency’s.

Focus and work/life Balence

So I think for self regulation, most of the time I am focusing in class, but sometimes disengage with the class and think to myself and do other things on my iPad. About work life balance, I think I can change that to, like most of the time I go on my iPad back at home and do that for hours. So those are the things I can inprove in those competencies.

Science Reflection

So science class started in semester 2, which was 5 months ago. I think this class was fun and an interesting class as well, like we did some hands on stuff, which I did not do at my old school. We mostly did lots of writing and not much experimenting. In my science class this year, I had more fun doing experiments, like when we swabbed the school and found out which surfaces had the most bacteria. That was a fun experiment to do. Also, I thought this class quite easy and did not really push me out of my comfort zone. The only thing that really pushed me out of my comfort zone was when we were making the video game on scratch. It was fun but it was hard, I had a diffulct time getting the code to work and the game did not turn how i wanted it to. So overall, I think this class was fun, but mostly too easy because I knew 50% of the things that were being taught to me. So in conclusion, that is how I did in science class this semester!

Maker reflection

For maker, this was way back in semester 1, so this was an older me which was not as experienced now. First of all, I think it was a fun class at one point, an example of this was when we were playing around with superimpose X. I personally had a lot of fun playing around with all of the tools, making goofy photos that were photoshopped. Also, during the Blogging challenge, this was one project that pushed me out of my comfort zone. It pushed me out of my comfort zone because WordPress was a finicky website and I wanted to make my website look good, but it was very hard to do. So in conclusion, that project pushed me out of my comfort zone in maker this year. In the becoming a PLP learned project, I was exploring the apps on my iPad, such as keynote, so for this project, we used keynote to make a presentation, we did not presen in front of the class, we made a video of my presentation we me talking abot each slide. After this project, my keynote skills we good, I learned animating the letters, using the animation to make fidget spinners and stuff. A big project in maker that continued into the second semester was DI. DI was a competition to see who can make the most creative ideas come to life with a lot of rules. I chose the engineering group because that is my passion and my dad does a lot of engineering work with me. So I was put in a group with Eloise, Siena, Sven,Cole and Sawyer. We worked well as a team, winning first in the lower mainland tournament and second in the provincials. We worked well as a team together and we made lots of memories together. So in conclusion, that is how my maker class went this year

Humanities reflection

So humanities was as all year class because it was a mix of socials and English, I think personally, humanities was my least favourite class this year. I was bored in humanities class a lot because it was not that I knew everything, but non of the topics really interested me enough to like this class as much as the others. But also, I did have some fun in humanities, like when we had pirate packs in class for lunch, it was fun racing to build the boat and tryharding in the kahoot tournament, I didn’t become the kahoot champion but I did get a chocolate egg for winning the first round. We recently did a project called the wilderness must be explored where we went to Oregon for a week. At first I did not want to go, but then I thought about the things I will miss out on, So I went and it was so fun. The most fun part was when we went zip lining. This trip changed me as a person because I have not been away from my family for that long, I missed them on the trip but I still had fun, we ate so much good food that I felt like an American after the trip. This was one of the only times I had fun in humanties class and it was good. So in conclusion. That is how humanties went this year.

Goals

So from the last POL I had a couple of goals til I get to the TPOL. One of the goals I had as procrastinating less. I think overall, I have been procrastinating less than the last POL. I did this by reminding myself and just doing and getting over the work I have to get done. Another goal I had was staying consistent in grades in all of my PLP classes, the report cards have not come out yet but I think I achieved that goal. Now let’s talk about goals for next year in grade 9. My first goal that I want to accomplish is contribute more to group work in class and just do more in general. My second goal is be consistent in not procrastinating. I will do this by thinking that I will just push through it and reminders. Those are my goals for next year in grade 9.

Thank you for listing to my TPOL!

Small but mighty

After learning about the organelles, cells, observing bacteria, researching vaccines, and making ads, I am done

So I started this project called small but mighty started back in April, right after spring break. Which was a very sad day for me. Now the driving questing for this project is. “How does our knoledge of cell biology contribute to public health.

What we have been doing

One of the first things we did was research the organelles, which are the inner guts of a cell. Then we had to make a presentation on a select organelle. I did the cell membrane and cytoplasm with Gemma. We had present our knoledge on those organelles in front of the class. Now I think this was the coolest thing and the most disgusting thing we did was swabbing surfaces of bacteria. The results are pretty disgusting.

My Immune system cards

We also had to draw the immune cells as charicters. Like I did them as people in a police force. I dont think it was too creative, but my brain was not braining that day. I kinda enjoyed doing this activity in class and I think the drawings turned out decent but I am not the best drawer.

My ad campaigns

For my ad campaigns,we had to choose a topic that we are going against. I chose going against the conspiracy theory that the Covid vaccines had microchips in them. We had to research our topic and use our knoledge to reason and make our claim. We also had to learn about opinion a nd bias. Bias is an opinion on something is either good or bad. The thing could be terrible. But you still have a positive bias towards it.

Reflection

So I think for this project I did pretty well, like the last project about mind over matter. I knew quite a lot about of the stuff that was being taught to me. I think I did observing my bacteria petri disheds. I made detailed observations for each and every one of them. Now I think I did good on the charicter cards, like the police theme I did on all of them. Now however, If I had gone back in time. I would have chosen something more creative. So overall, I think I did well on this project.

Echoes of colonization

After writing notes, discussing with my group and making a keynote, I have presented infront of grade 11s

So we came back from spring break(Very sad day) which means new humanities project. So this new humanities project was basically a part 2 of Bon Voyage. It did focus on the consequences, but this project focused more on the indigenous peoples of Canada.

What we did over the last few weeks

So one of the first things we did was learn about craft and for this project, we mainly made notes on our readings on craft. Craft is an app on our iPads which can be used as a documents app, a notetaking app, and a scheduling and more. So what we mainly learned about were a few treaties like the Indian act. We also learned about the extinction of the beaothuk people.

the final product

The final product of this project was a keynote presentation that we had to present to BCFP grade 11s and it was in a group. I was in a group with Milaina and Aiden. We basically did our own research on topics we were interested in, like I chose politics and Aiden chose health.

My individual presentation reflection and my answer to the driving question

So in addition to making and presenting a group presentation, we had to make a individual presentation which is your answer to the driving question, the criteria for the presentation was very weird because we only had to put in 3 words per slide. So my answer to the driving question was intergenerational trauma, intergenerational trauma can be a very hard thing to define, it can be passed down in literal DNA or through traumatic events, like residential schools, the students there experienced abuse and how it can be passed down is the victim’s behaviour or actions. So that is my answer to the driving question

Mpols

Intro

Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.”

Now I will be telling my PLP story📖

What I did in humanities💻

So I will be mentioning only the major project I did in humanities. The first project I did was the outsiders which was about worldview and we had to read a book called, well you guessed it, the outsiders, so the final product was a Music video with a bunch of pictures,

What I did in maker🛠️

So a major project for maker was the blogging challenge where we had to make a blog website where we share what we did in projects in all classes. And the final product for the project was this blog website where I am writing on

What I did so far in science 🔬

So what I did in science was leaning about atoms and the kinetic molecular therory, but I already knew most of the stuff that happened in class. The final product for this project is a game representing my knowledge of atoms

DI

DI was probably the biggest project I did all year. We worked for 3 months to get ready for two tournaments which are lower mainland and provincial which I just did on Saturday, I learned lots from DI and made lots of memories with my team. We won first place at the lower mainland tournament and second at the provincial tournament.

What I learned🧑‍🏫

So since I joined PLP I learned many skills on the iPad

Making keynotes and animating

Using pages

photoshopping in superimpose X

Using notability

using my Apple Pencil to draw

drawing skills

blogging skills

Note taking skill

Working well in a group

Listening  to ideas and include them

collaboration

Building skills

Things I did well with in plp💻

so what I think I did well in PLP was I was being productive in class most of the time and I was also going along with the lesson well most of the time, I was good at understanding the task at hand and the subject I was learning at the time. I also displayed my understanding of the subject really well in the science project because I already knew most of the stuff in the subject. I think I did well in applying my skills in projects that I learned in previous project or prior knowledge about my iPad.

What I think I can improve🤔

I personally think that the main thing I need to improve is procrastination, I do too much of my work last minute and stressing myself out too much. I also think I can improve my focus in my class sometimes, like for example I sometimes do stuff on my iPad that is not related to the lesson at hand. Like I might play a game or something. I also sometimes get distracted while doing homework at home and I dont get much done. Like for example I might hop on a game after writing a paragraph about the crusades or something

Goals📈

For this next segment and the last, I will talk about the goals I have accomplished and the goals I have until the end of the year. And I will be using my learning guide as a reference to my goals

So much state of leaning intent was

This year in Grade 8, I am intending to know, understand, and do certain thing throughout this year, first of all, I would like to do better in humanities, I don’t understand what I am being taught very well, and I don’t like to do stuff over again, it is hard on me, like really hard on me, so I would like to try to push my usual school assignment  grades in humanities up to proficient so I don’t have to revise stuff too much. How I would make my grade better in humanities is that I will try harder and come to tutorial more often. Maker is where I want to go above and beyond to try to get that exceeding grade and stuff. It’s going to make me have more pride in myself and I would like to try to challenge myself to do more challenging things in maker, like more complex video and photo editing, and become more tech savvy in general. so this year, I will promise myself to try to get proficient on most of my assignments and exceeding on most of them in maker. And so that is my learner’s intent

I did most of the things I said in my learning intent. But I did not get extending in maker which kinda disappointed  me because I really wanted that grade and I think I did not try hard enough to reach that goal. In humanities I have reached proficient in all of my projects which was a big win for me because I thought I would be developing or something. Also I did not get the challenge of becoming a better video editor and I did not learn more complex video editing.

So for my goals until the end of the year are to procrastinate less and stay consistent with my grades in class by being proficient. Also whenever I need help, I will go to tutorial more often and ask more questions by talking more with my teachers about an assignment

that is the end of my MPOL presentation. Thank you for coming to discuss my learning

Bon voyage reflection

After two months of leaning about sailors finding new lands, Persevering through buggy  ARmaker, I have completed my first humanities project for the second semseter

So it was a new semester for everybody which means there is a new project in humanities. Which I was not too excited because who likes school. So anyway this project was about how the Europeans crossed the Atlantic Ocean to the americas. And the driving questions for this project is. How can we use storytelling to investigate what sparked global exploration and understand its impact?

What we did over the the 1.5 months

Ok so basically what we did was several investigations on the Europeans crossing the oceans. Like for example we learned about the Columbia’s exchange and we had to write notes about it. So basically we did a bunch of investigations before making our final product, which you will see in a bit.  In addition, we learned the many motavations of exploration  like the 3Gs Gold Glory and God. Also, we did play around with ARmaker. A app on our iPad where we can put stuff from the digital world into the real world. But the app was very buggy and if you turned off your device, all of the object you put in is all over the place

The final product

so the final product was like I said earlier was a video in AR maker. But I told a story of a sailor made history by making the first colony in the Americas. So I had to do it at night because I did not have enough time during the day, so enjoy my story!

What I leaned

So what I learned about the Columbian exchange and what the Europeans did when they crossed the oceans to conquer new lands, like the americas. I also learned about the Trade between the indigenous and the Europeans for beaver pelts. Also I learned more on how to make a good story to tell.
