On our first field study of the year, we went to Alberta. In Alberta, we made multiple videos for our maker class, but in humanities, we made a book. In this book, we talked about the five themes of geography and all the places we went to. Our driving question for this project was “How has the geography of the West shaped who we are?” Unlike the book we made in Oregon, this one was less formatted for us, meaning we had to make it ourselves to be more unique to us (https://www.blog44.ca/jacks/oregon/).

The Rockies are a beautiful sight and an amazing place to visit. When visiting there, you learn why people come here; the natural beauty is priceless. People have been coming to the Rockies for a long time now from all over the world, and the CPR has made the west way more accessible for people. The construction of the Trans Canadian Highway has made it even more available for tourists to visit. When more and more people come, this helps our economy, allowing us to be a thriving country. The CPR was one of the main criteria B.C. had when they joined Canada. The west of Canada is an important place for many reasons; it’s not just the natural beauty. The oil, lumber, and the coast allow for mining and exporting goods for profit. This allows us to have an education system and free healthcare, which heavily impacts me and who I am.
