After completing our second DI tournament I am going to take this post to have a needed reflection on Destination imagination this year.

I’ve done DI for two years in a row now and a lot of things have changed with each tournament. The first time I did DI I was pretty unorganized and a lot of the stuff that we did was rushed. We didn’t make it to globals but my group got through regionals and went to provincials that year.

This year my group ended up being able to go to globals after placing 2nd in our tournament at provincials and placing first in regionals. So in my opinion I think that I have improved at the DI process. It wasn’t just improvements in the main performance either. I think that the instant challenges I have done over the last two years have progressively gotten better as they have gone on. This might be because everyone has gotten increasingly friendlier and more familiar with each other’s abilities as far as knowledge and certain skills. While my group had our issues along the way this year I think that it could have been a lot worse.

There definitely was a lot more energy this year amongst my group members but this went a bit too far sometimes and people defended their ideas pretty fiercely when they came into some criticism. This ended in the biggest failure of our performance this year where we lost a large amount of points across multiple scoring ares because of the inclusion of a new way of picking up our object in the maze. We previously had it be picked up by two magnets placed on the front of the vehicle however in an attempt to fix the issue we changed it to a c and system with magnets at the last minute. The confidence in the new crane by some of our members ended up with the removal of the reliable frontal magnets. The crane failed in the middle of our performance and because the magnets were removed without the knowledge of some group members the non existent front magnets were attempted to be used costing us time. The.time loss resulted in us not finishing our performance and not extracting the object or moving the maze traveler from the maze. In the end we lost the majority of our points over one thing that could have been avoided if we had communicated better amongst ourselves.

I still agree with my previous post on the success of the story and acting of my group members. We still improved our way out of the mistake we made with our crane. As for our instant I think that it went really well this year and we coordinated really well as a team but that’s all I can really say.

Looking forward to next year (kinda).
