The Manhattan project at Hanford. Home of the b reactor, the first large-scale nuclear reactor ever built. For our field study our class took a trip to Hanford Washington to see the b reactor. Since I had tickets to a Blue Jays game the day we headed down I wasn’t able to join my fellow classmates.
Although I wasn’t on the field study the success to our film was all communication. Our movie turned out amazing. Communication was the key to our success. I’m very proud of my groups work. Our movie is on the woman at Hanford. It’s 5 different things you didn’t know about the women at Hanford, the roles and responsibilities. Our group decided that each of us work on our own subtopic. My topic was the recruitment process and at the end we would combine our videos we made into one large movie and then fix what needed to be fixed.
Not joining the class on the field study was tough. I didn’t think our film was going to turn out as well as it did. I thought we wouldn’t communicate enough and I would fall behind and then it would just fall apart. But my group kept in deep contact with me and sent me all the interview clips of questions I wanted to ask the workers and sent me pictures from the b reactor, so I was able to put together my movie. If I was to change one thing, it would be for me to go on the field study. I think our group put out an outstanding product out and communicated and helped each other out greatly. I wouldn’t change anything.
Our film was “outstanding” (actual quote from Mr.Hughes) so it was chosen to be presented at the North Vancouver School District board meeting. Our group decided to choose small sections that were strongest from each one of our subtopics and make a 1-2 minute video to give them an idea of our film. The school board loved our video. At the end they asked us questions about the making and about PLP. In my opinion we answered the questions with sophisticated and educated answers and represented PLP greatly.
