Hello there, today I will not be your normal blogging friend that you know of and love (I think), today I will be chef Jordyn!
This week of the student blogging challenge, week 7, is probably the BEST WEEK OF ALL. It is going to be all about…… Cooking. No, no, no, this weeks challenge wasn’t challenging people to make food because that probably wouldn’t go so well, imagine someone who didn’t know how to cook trying to make food! This weeks challenge is a whatever-we-want week. We get to write about something we are passionate about (such as my art and friendship bracelet posts) and that is what I am here to do.
I love cooking, I don’t think I have actually ever mentioned this before. Oooooooooohhhhh, something you don’t know about me, a new amazing Jordyn fact. This year at school was my first ever year doing a foods class and as I mentioned before and you will hear it a few more times, I love it so much! We have already done a dessert unit, a soup unit, and we are currently working on a pasta unit and I am going to try and incorporate the things I have learned in the class into this post.
So. I haven’t even told you guys what this post is actually going to be about, what it’s going to include and I just can’t wait any longer because it is going to be so exciting. I am making you guys a few videos as I cook my dream three course meal! EEEEEEEEEE!!! I’m just so excited to get started sooo, let’s do it!
First things first is the Appy or the formal name, Appetizer. One time when I was in Whistler with my family, we were having a nice little potlatch where all of our friends brought a snack. One of the snacks that was brought was these cheesy shortbread biscuit things with a red pepper jelly and ever since then I have wanted to make them. So, that’s exactly what I did! I made Parmesan shortbread biscuits for the first time! Here is a speedy video on how to make them:
The next thing in a meal is of course, the entrée or main dish. This, what I made, is literally my favorite food on the whole planet….. BUTTERNUT SQUASH SOUP!! I was expecting it to be a lot harder to make but it actually wasn’t too bad!
Last but not least, is the dessert, everybody’s favorite part. Fun fact, I actually never used to like cheesecake but everything changed this year. I actually tried it after 5 years of hating it, and now it is probably one of my many favourite desserts. I made mini cheesecakes, almost like cupcakes but a little bit different.
As you can see, a lot of work went into this post. I made three different dishes, filmed them, and then edited short videos for them. So you may be asking why I did all of this for one post but there is a simple answer. I. LOVE. COOKING. Since I started taking foods class, it has changed my life. Last year, before I had started taking these classes, I could probably make KD or Ichiban and that’s about it. But maybe after one class, I felt confident enough to go home and make something amazing on my own. And that’s why I love making food. I love how you get to create something with millions of different flavours and textures to choose from and the end result is a delicious surprise you and your family and friends can enjoy!

Hi Jordyn!
Your blog is so beautiful.
I ‘ve been through some of the articles you suggested: « Friendship Bracelet Time », « Unicorn and Tomato Art », now the « Cooking Extravaganza»: I really think you are an Artist!
« The first ever blog-spicer-upper!! »
I love that expression: it suits you perfectly, you are a « life-spicer-upper » your self.
You enrapture your readers, you take them away with you in your crazy and cheerful gallopade.
I watched your videos carefully and I’ll try the desserts to share with my young student: as a Tutor, we work in a small office where we usually share cookies and bits of chocolate while working.
But at Christmas, I’ll try the « Butternut Squash Soup »: this one was totally unknown to us, and I’ll make a surprise at home.
In my School, we have « Conventual Pastry Evenings » from time to time, but not a Cooking Course as your School has.
I deeply enjoyed your other posts about Art and Friends.
“ I wanted to do « something unique” – this sentence defines pretty well your attitude towards daily life: you just pick up something trivial and you take it to the next level, isn’t that so?
« I drew my perspective project from the view of a chairlift!! It was definitely a challenge” – I would say that there is an appropriate description of your « perspective project » on life: you look at it from a higher and challenging place!
Your extrovert, warm and delightfully enthusiastic writing works like a magnet in your reader’s’ imagination! You fuel people’s creativity!
Your posts are full of bright, positive energy and it sweeps through your audience as a contagious joy.
Thank you for sharing in your posts such a delicate expression of the strong love you engage within your creative activities.

Thank you so much Ines!
This means so much to me, that has always been my hope. To make people want to read my blog posts, making them interesting and take them on a journey through my learning. I hope you do try the butternut squash soup, it’s so delicious, as I said, it’s definitely one of my favourite meals ever, especially getting closer to winter. I’m so glad you enjoyed my blog!

Hi Jordyn!
Its me, Evelyn again.
The first thought I had when got on your post was: Wait. Jordyn likes to cook?
So I’d like to tell you: I like baking. Even though my chocolate cake is awesome, my cookie skills are significantly worse. A few days ago, I had to make dumplings for Thanksgiving.

Hi.
I want to add something on to that last post.
Like most people know, it comes down to the chemistry. I had to study how cakes rise in order to fix a recipe. (It was not homework or anything required. I only started baking at the beginning of summer 2018.) I discovered that there are 4 different ways: baking powder and baking soda, eggs, air in the butter, and the heat of the oven. Honestly, I hope I don’t sound like a know-it-all.

Evelyn!! I am so glad you commented again!
We are kinda like blogging friends now That’s so funny! You like cooking to?? I actually just started as well, this year as you probably read in my post! I actually never thought about how baking involves chemistry and science, that’s kind of funny. And, by the way, you definitely do not sound like know-it-all, that’s really coll about how to make a cake rise! I hope we can keep commenting on each others blogs and….. yeah!

Dear Chef Jordyn,
Thank you for your amazing post! Not only did you do an excellent job using your extremely professional videos, but your love of cooking shines through. Your ‘voice’ as a writer is so clear! You sound like an articulate, fun loving, smart and interesting person.
I am definitely going to try the parmesan biscuits. ( I still make the baking powder biscuits from the recipe I got in grade 7 Home Ec.) I just love any form of cheesecake and your video reminded me just how fast and easy it is. (Hmmm, I wonder if we have creamed cheese??) The soup sound delicious! Not a big soup person, but, I might have to make an exception.
Thanks for being part of the student blogging challenge. I love reading the posts of all the amazing student bloggers – like you! Keep up the great work!

Hi Marg!!
Thank you so much! I am so glad to hear that you will actually try my recipes, I mean, it wouldn’t be to great if I made videos but no one used them. It is so kind of you to say such nice things and I’m super excited that you get to try some new biscuits and cheesecake, and maybe even soup! I love writing my posts exactly like how I would actually talk to someone about the topic, it’s more fun that way! Thank you so much for commenting on my blog Marg and I hope to talk to you again soon.

Hello Jordyne! This is an amazing blog post. I love to cook! I was so happy when I saw you had made videos so people could cook with you. I made the Parmesan shortbread biscuits and they were so good. My family also loved them. They are my new favorite food. I really want to try making the BUTTERNUT SQUASH SOUP and the mini cheesecake. Great job!
