Hi! To whoever is reading this blog post. Welcome if you are new, welcome back if you aren’t. If you are not new and you have visited my blog before, then you have probably read my last TWIL post about The globe Theatre. If you are new, here is what they are all about:

I will be completing a post each week about what I learned, specifically something that I found interesting. I will partake in a bit of research from the internet or from the play, Romeo and Juliet and then create an image, video, or recording to go along with it.

We have been studying Romeo and Juliet for a few weeks now and we just finished Act 2 and after studying the play so far in, I couldn’t help but notice the contrast between two characters. These characters are Benvolio, the Montague cousin of Romeo, and Tybalt, the Capulet cousin of Juliet. These two secondary characters have very strong and distinct characteristics that cannot be disregarded.

In this blog post, I will be comparing and contrasting the differences and similarities between Benvolio and Tybalt as well as Superimosing an Image to represent that. I will use apps such as  Shakepseare in Bits: Romeo and Juliet to look at lines, Superimose to combine and edit images, and Phonto to add words.

The Comparison Chart

The Image

In the juxtaposition image I created you can see benvolio with a peace sign on his face and a faded face of a cat on Tybalts face as he is the prince of cats and cats can be quite conniving and be seen as “evil.” Don’t get me wrong, I love cats. Around each character are symbols that I think represent their characters and personality.

Curtain Call

I don’t think that this heavy contrast between Tybalt and Benvolio was in anyway an accident. I think that Shakespeare purposely made them so different to show the feuding families. Anyway, that concludes the episode of TWIL post #2 and I hope to see you guys next week! “Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow, That I shall say good night till it be morrow.” – Juliet
