Renaissance Post

Hi my name is Kadin! Welcome back to my blog. In this post I will. Be reflecting on my most recent project that was on the renaissance! The driving question for this project is, “What significant developments emerged from the past and how do they impact us today?”

We started off the project by establishing historical significance. I was able to complete this by researching the printing press. The printing press is extremely historically significant. It was the first modern device used for printing. From books, to newspaper it was extremely widespread and globalize. It’s effects are still present in todays world and through modernization we as humans have been able to keep using printing presses.

Historical significance can also be viewed through events. Another example of historical significant is “The Age of Exploration. (AE)” The AE has continued to be historically significant throughout hundreds of years. The AE, put simply, is when the Europeans set out by sea in search of new lands, trading routs, wealth, and knowledge. The impact of this age has permanently altered our world and transformed geography into what it is today. Without the Europeans doing this, we may never know how our world would be or look like.

Another assignment I completed, was called the triptych. I in this assignment I was tasked with comparing old inventions to their modern day counterparts. I asked myself, “are these modern day counterparts historically significant?” I came to the conclusion that sone of them are more than others:

1. I would say art is historically significant because of its massive audience. Pieces from hundreds of years ago are going for millions of dollars. Art is a way to express yourself and is extremely globalize.

2. Printing press. As mentioned above, yes very historically significant. It allowed for modern day printing and its still used today.

3. Lighters/matches. I would say they are not very historically significant. Although very useful, and handy, their nature of just being a small wooden stick you light on fire, is not significant enough. Although matches being more convenient, there are/were other ways of lighting things on fire.

4. Design sketches. The last thing I compared are design sketches. I compared Leonardo DaVinci’s sketches of some of his inventions to modern day inventions. I would argue that these are very historically significant because literally every object/item in the world needed a design sketch prior to being made. Without design sketches, who knows what products would have worked out or not?

Connections to competencies:

Establishing Historical Significance: I was able to establish historical significance through many assignments. I was able to apply historical significance to my daily life to help me identify if something truly was historically significant. Through the assignments you have seen above, I can clearly identify what is historically significant and what isn’t. I can explain my thoughts clearly and throughly.

Conclusion:

The renaissance connected with historical significance has a lot of value to me, because I know we will be covering both of these topics again in the coming years. With this foundation off learning set, The oncoming years will be much easier and I can fly through them due to the learning I did in this project.

Thanks,

Kadin
