Weekly post-part 2

Hey everyone, welcome to my second weekly post for my project “the Greatest Canadian”

This week we completed many lectures and assignments, but what really stuck out to me was picking my individual I would focus on in my podcast. Since my podcast is about family stories, I asked my family who they thought was a great Canadian that impacted them. My dad suggested I choose Gordon lightfoot and I decided he would be a great individual to focus on.

After choosing Gordon lightfoot as my individual, that night I talked to my family about how they felt he impacted the world and our families. What my mom said really shocked me… according to my mom Gordon was pretty popular in her family but not really for his music. Apparently my Baba’s ex boyfriend was a musician and was stranded at an airport due to bad weather, there he bumped into Gordon lightfoot and since they both had their instruments they played together to pass time. They took turns playing different songs. My Baba’s boyfriend played his song “Rainy day people” (which was still kind off a work in progress) Gordon liked it so much he asked him how to play it. Her boyfriend taught it to him and then they went their separate ways. Later on Gordon lightfoot  came out with his song “Rainy day people” which sounded almost identical to my Baba’s boyfriends song.

(The story in my Baba’s words, her boyfriends name is crossed out for privacy)

Without choosing Gordon lightfoot and completing assignments about him, I might’ve never learned about this super cool story that my Baba had.

This week was a little crazy and had quite a few surprises, this story has gotten me really excited for this project and I can’t wait to record my podcast episode. till next week

Kaia.
