Well I lied in the title it wasn’t the deadliest but it was still very deadly

Our final project in the PLP 9 year was an exhibition project, I made a comic book depicting the battle of vimy ridge. Throughout this project I had to make a 20 panel comic book depicting the battle of vimy. The battle of vimy was the first ever Canadian battle that had all four battalions attacking together. For my comic book I focused on the second Canadian battalion which attacked hill 145.

In the planning section I researched more about people who were in the war and I wanted to show how a lot of these soldiers were treated like pawns and not as humans. My goal with my comic was to show how people can lose their ”souls” while at war. For this metaphor I used eyes, if you look at my comics you can see that at the start and end of the book James and John have eyes but through the middle everyone kinda looks the same and no one had eyes so they barely could be discerned from each other. Another reason I chose the eyes is that in many cultures they have a version of saying “the eyes are a window to the soul” so maybe if these windows are closed nobody can access it and this I s also a coping mechanism a some soldiers had for the tragedy they witnessed.

For the exhibition I was grouped with the resort of the people doing vimy ridge. I didn’t get a ton of visitors but I feel like I really presented well when I needed too. I also had a background video of my drawing playing in the background to show the effort put into each individual panel of the comic book.

We didn’t have anything really to present other then our comic books so the exhibition was a FAIL (if you know you know). Overall throughout this project I really enjoyed creating and putting a bit more personality into my work in the final project of grade nine and I really enjoyed the creation process.
