Winter Exhibition: Surviving and Growing

Being in Grade 10, this year’s winter exhibition presented an interesting challenge: our emphasis was on marketing. For my group, which investigated technology and innovation, this meant looking at how best to present our ideas and enthrall an audience. Though not without difficulties, the trip was fulfilling and turned into an experience that tried my resilience, ingenuity, and capacity for under pressure adaptation.

The opening hour of the exhibition presented one of the most major difficulties for me. First unable to participate, overwhelmed by nervousness and resolved to make sure my presentation went perfectly. I needed this time for introspection and preparation if I was to organize my ideas and focus my public speaking and presentation talents. Although I missed that first hour, it was a required step to get over my anxiety and perform boldly when I did take front stage. And at last, my presentation went well, which was well welcomed and evidence of the need of tenacity.

The development of my business card presented still another surprising turn. I misinterpreted the design and printing procedure, which left me without a professionally produced copy in time for the show. Not one to be readily discouraged, I soon created a homemade business card. Although it wasn’t flawless, it reminded me of the need of adaptability and fast thinking.

To complement our theme of technology and creativity, I chose to make circuit board cookies to give our group a personal touch. Apart from their popularity among guests, the cookies were an innovative approach to make our exhibit interesting and unforgettable. It was a little but powerful approach to highlight our topic while displaying some additional effort and uniqueness.

Looking back, the winter show transcended mere educational value. This was a teaching moment that stretched outside my comfort zone and made clear the need of resilience, flexibility, and leveraging my abilities to go beyond obstacles. From overcoming unforeseen obstacles to negotiating public speaking fear, each event helped me improve. I’m glad for the knowledge gained along the road and happy with what I accomplished.
